Later in this scene when Luke asks Del to let him keep a device they found, Del says "Why should I let you have it?" (because his mission was to destroy a cache of artifacts) and Luke replies, "Because I asked."
By the time Rey met him, he was an old man in exile who, toz his knowledge, had failed everyone, including himself. And when he went to strike down Ben in that moment, Luke was frightened of the idea of failing. He wasn't perfect. But yeah the sequels do kinda suck.

Everyone there knew what the station was for, and after Alderaan was destroyed I don't have sympathy for that. I do have some sympathy for the other core systems, as several of them were peaceful, if over taxed.

Except Luke will either help them if they’re defenseless and in peril like Del here or he’ll lament having had to fight them (like how he says “I’m sorry” after killing Stormtroopers in the gameplay before this or “I don’t want to kill you!” and “You gave me no choice!” in multiplayer). But those who don’t know his empathetic nature (a polar opposite to what his father had become) only know that he’ll go to any length to fight for the Rebellion, defeat the Empire, and defend his friends, with no regard for his own life in the process, so standing between him and either of those things is very unwise. Of course, there’s also the fact that this takes place after the Emperor and Darth Vader were killed. Del doesn’t know that it wasn’t Luke who killed them, so he has every reason to be uneasy here. That’s what I really admire about this scene. He quickly realizes that Luke Skywalker isn’t the big, bad villain Imperial propaganda paints him to be. Instead, he’s a friend to those with goodness in their hearts.

The empire was beaten and broken as the next highest power were the moffs and they were each greedy for power and tried to leave. So each one took a fraction of the empire and tried to fight the rebellion themselves calling them the true empire. That's why the empire lost to the rebellion. It wasn't until Thrawn that the empire was truly reunited and led to be a threat again, well except for when Palpatine force possessed his own clone bodies but that's another story.

This entire level legitimately made me feel like a kid again, watching Star Wars for the very first time. That’s something none of the sequels ever managed to do.
I basically just used the force to defend myself and did attck the trooper directly. The force should be used for knowledge and defense, never for attack.
Wise, Calm, Sage, yet Powerful. Like his entrance in Return of the Jedi, his Triumph at the end, his rescue of Grogu in the Mandalorian, and to an extent, his teachings in the Book of Boba Fett.

I find it to be charming that Luke didn’t straight up explain to Del that Palpatine was a Sith Lord… he instead lets Del come to his own conclusions based on small hints and Luke’s own actions. Luke was a guide rather than some overseer who had to correct Del for everything he was worth. Too bad the Sequels ruined what an amazing teacher Luke could have been by completely ignoring his actual personality and giving me trauma that undid the good ending Lucas intended in Episode 6.
“why’d you help me?” “bc you asked.” that response was so simple yet so perfect. Luke was the true embodiment of what a jedi should be, and it’s a shame we never got see his adventures as a seasoned jedi.
When i played this game the first time a few years ago, the way they portrayed Luke nearly brought me to tears. It was perfect. Too bad we didnt get this kind of Luke on the big screen.

It's called character progression. Luke changed to become more cynical after his order fell. It's pretty simple writing that explores his character in interesting ways.

You only play as Luke for one mission, but that single mission cracks del’s entire viewpoint on the empire wide open, or rather, his viewpoint on the Jedi to an extent, and it’s great
The way he helps other no matter who they are is what hope really is. I love how he looked back with a genuine smile. Knowing that Del is a very conflicted person. But has a good heart. This is Luke Skywalker.
There’s something about a guy who is extremely powerful but also kind… It’s bewildering and scary. Because you understand that he could take anything he wanted but has the self-control not to. That is such a rare quality that it’s almost frightening.
You should never meet your heroes in real life then. Sometimes life gives you the finger and you reluctantly have to clean up a mess you created. And most of us die as so called coward. You can't guarantee you will be at your best until the end. Sorry Luke wasn't the Mary Sue you always wanted to grow up to be. You do what's best for the story, not what's best for the fandom.
We met a character who failed, and as a result was left broken. He's a real person who makes mistakes. Do you consider Yoda a coward because he hid away, or Anakin a coward because he didn't stand up to Sideous? Frankly, it would've been boring if the Luke we saw in the sequels was like a younger Luke, instead we got to explore his character in a new way.

i love luke in jedi outcast and academy. legends is so good. I really like luke in this scene as well. one of the few times the new stuff portrayed him well.
The thing that truly baffles me about this scene and its depiction of Luke is that this came out a month before the last Jedi. For all intents and purposes, this was Disney's stance on his character and it's what everyone was expecting in the movie.
Amazes me the thought they put into this story, actually felt so believable and inspired when Del and Iden swapped from the Empire to the Rebellion. This scene always stuck with me because of the way Del seemed to actually fear Luke. Adds a lot to the power and influence the Empire held, they changed the past entirely.
This is the real Luke Skywalker! He was not only extremely powerful in the Force but also had an exceptionally kind heart when it came to helping others in need be it even his sworn enemy!
Most citizens of the empire does, this is the dude that was the last person both the emperor and Vader (The two most terrifying individuals in the galaxy) fought before they were both announced dead, this is the dude that was credited for the destruction of the 1st death star And on top of that there were still many jedi remnants after order 66 that did some pretty abominable things So to have this jedi, who was so resilient that he survived the purge and all the years of the empire and still defeat the two most dangerous people in the empire along with their greatest superweapon while also hearing about all the terrible things the jedi supposedly did would make any imperial trooper crap themselves at the sight of Luke

Imagine the bogeyman walks in on you in the most vulnerable possible moment. The creature who as good as killed God. And instead of terrible, he is quiet, and gentle, and kind.
THIS IS WHO LUKE IS. He was someone who would risk his life doing stuff like this because he always saw the good in people. Even when faced with Darth Vader, he tried to look into the tiniest bit of good that was in him, unlike the Luke Skywalker where he casually wanted to kill his brother in laws son just because he saw the smallest bit of evil.
Lucasfilm writers don’t write the games, that’s why. The people who wrote the scripts for BF2 and Fallen Order are actual Star Wars fans that want to do it justice. That’s why the characters in both games, new and legacy, were excellently written. Cal Kestis was so good that he’s now in my top 3 Star Wars characters
I always found this scene funny, Del days “Is that what you used to murder my men?” Referring to his lightsaber, and Luke says “They didn’t give me a chance they attacked first” but when you play as Luke slaughtering his men, you literally ambush and murder 2 stormtroopers that were just chatting. 😂
It always irked me that they literally force you to kill every single stormtrooper to get into the cave. They will not surrender and you can't just force your way into the cave. Kinda detracts from the cutscenes imo.
The thing is to Luke, the Rebellion still wasnt the best. To be the best option, is to abandoned the idea and need for war entirely and be at peace in the universe. Even with someone whos ideals are not your own. The rebellion will go to war still over those ideals.
This was the single greatest moment of character development between two people on screen in a video game. We saw who Luke really was, and so did Del. And that changed him for life.
It’s so sad that we never saw THIS Luke on screen. When even Mark Hamil is deceived of how they portrayed him on the sequels, that’s the sign of a botched job. Good job on the writers of BF on that one

I’m sure EA had lots of Star Wars fans involved in the making of these games… but Kathleen Kennedy and her Sequel crew wanted to make their own vision, even if it contradicts what Star Wars is… who Luke is… who Anakin was. He comes in doesn’t introduce himself and we know it’s not because his reputation proceeds him because Djin doesn’t know who he is. He doesnt seem the least bit curious as to how these people ended up in this situation he just takes Grogu and leaves with giving his own name, asking Djin for his, or telling Djin where he can find him in future. It’s honestly a shallow underdeveloped cameo.

That’s why imo he would’ve been 10x stronger a Jedi than he was as a Sith. Jedi was where he belonged. Sith was his place only because of others actions, not his own

It's actually worse than that. He was captured and taken to the throne room. Then he leaves dragging Vader's seemingly dead body to a ship with no emperor. Really makes him look evil if you sided with them.

The empire was beaten and broken as the next highest power were the moffs and they were each greedy for power and tried to leave. So each one took a fraction of the empire and tried to fight the rebellion themselves calling them the true empire. That's why the empire lost to the rebellion. It wasn't until Thrawn that the empire was truly reunited and led to be a threat again, well except for when Palpatine force possessed his own clone bodies but that's another story.

I think the Empire found out that Luke was the one who blew up the first Death Star so Luke is #1 on Empire's list of most feared

@@TheTaintedWisdom He forgot a comma and some context. It's been awhile since I played through BF2 but I remember that Luke said something to Del that he thought meant that Luke wanted him to join so he said "What, to join the Rebellion?" And Luke said "No, to be better".
This entire level legitimately made me feel like a kid again, watching Star Wars for the very first time. That’s something none of the sequels ever managed to do.
I basically just used the force to defend myself and did attck the trooper directly. The force should be used for knowledge and defense, never for attack.
All of BF2 single player was really good. Disjointed for sure, but had far better characterisation than 7-8-9.
Wise, Calm, Sage, yet Powerful. Like his entrance in Return of the Jedi, his Triumph at the end, his rescue of Grogu in the Mandalorian, and to an extent, his teachings in the Book of Boba Fett.

I find it to be charming that Luke didn’t straight up explain to Del that Palpatine was a Sith Lord… he instead lets Del come to his own conclusions based on small hints and Luke’s own actions. Luke was a guide rather than some overseer who had to correct Del for everything he was worth. Too bad the Sequels ruined what an amazing teacher Luke could have been by completely ignoring his actual personality and giving me trauma that undid the good ending Lucas intended in Episode 6.

You only play as Luke for one mission, but that single mission cracks del’s entire viewpoint on the empire wide open, or rather, his viewpoint on the Jedi to an extent, and it’s great

There’s something about a guy who is extremely powerful but also kind… It’s bewildering and scary. Because you understand that he could take anything he wanted but has the self-control not to. That is such a rare quality that it’s almost frightening.

We met a character who failed, and as a result was left broken. He's a real person who makes mistakes. Do you consider Yoda a coward because he hid away, or Anakin a coward because he didn't stand up to Sideous? Frankly, it would've been boring if the Luke we saw in the sequels was like a younger Luke, instead we got to explore his character in a new way.

i like how wholesome luke is and how he makes everyone feel safe by him just being there, he’s a gentle sweet but strong guy which is something this world can lack
i love luke in jedi outcast and academy. legends is so good. I really like luke in this scene as well. one of the few times the new stuff portrayed him well.
Luke in one mission outshined his whole character in the sequals. EA understands Luke better than disney and thats sad 😂
And then they made TLJ. Yes, this was the personality we expected, even as he aged. Not robotic or grumpy. A good guy out to help people.

The thing that truly baffles me about this scene and its depiction of Luke is that this came out a month before the last Jedi. For all intents and purposes, this was Disney's stance on his character and it's what everyone was expecting in the movie.
This Luke would never force Grogu to stay away from Mando or try and kill his nephew in his sleep and then hide away on an island. Insane, man.
Amazes me the thought they put into this story, actually felt so believable and inspired when Del and Iden swapped from the Empire to the Rebellion. This scene always stuck with me because of the way Del seemed to actually fear Luke. Adds a lot to the power and influence the Empire held, they changed the past entirely.

Most citizens of the empire does, this is the dude that was the last person both the emperor and Vader (The two most terrifying individuals in the galaxy) fought before they were both announced dead, this is the dude that was credited for the destruction of the 1st death star
And on top of that there were still many jedi remnants after order 66 that did some pretty abominable things
So to have this jedi, who was so resilient that he survived the purge and all the years of the empire and still defeat the two most dangerous people in the empire along with their greatest superweapon while also hearing about all the terrible things the jedi supposedly did would make any imperial trooper crap themselves at the sight of Luke

THIS IS WHO LUKE IS. He was someone who would risk his life doing stuff like this because he always saw the good in people. Lucasfilm writers don’t write the games, that’s why. The people who wrote the scripts for BF2 and Fallen Order are actual Star Wars fans that want to do it justice. I always found this scene funny, Del days “Is that what you used to murder my men?” Referring to his lightsaber, and Luke says “They didn’t give me a chance they attacked first” but when you play as Luke slaughtering his men, you literally ambush and murder 2 stormtroopers that were just chatting. 😂
It always irked me that they literally force you to kill every single stormtrooper to get into the cave. They will not surrender and you can't just force your way into the cave. Kinda detracts from the cutscenes imo.
