    Love the Nissan hardbody! Likewise on the S4 vs S5, i'm also 73" and fall between sizes on every single frame up i've built. After riding current generation larges for last two years i'm back on an XL and it feels fantastic. Turning 40 soon and stability has become more important that playfulness. But damn, this Trans Sentinel is still super playful in XL!

    Yo.. one of the best Stumpy reviews on the planet atm 🌎
    Everyone else talks about one size and how it feels, this is so much more valuable seeing what size one could choose and why it changes a bikes feel. Anyhow sick riding and great vid and comparison with honest feedback and future changes that could be had!

    Been watching your vids for ages and bought an S5 rear end for my previous gen alloy StumpyEvo (S4) off the back of your chat about front to rear ratios (Banshee Titan video?)
    I've found for my 5'8" height a reach of 450 and a front to rear center ratio of about 1.7 is pretty perfect, you feel really in the middle of the bike like it's pivoting around your hips, also the 453mm chain stay on the S5 let's me run my bars pretty high.
    It's super fun playing around with the StEvos, imo they went backwards by making the CS shorter on the latest edition. Longer CS and a higher BB would keep the stability but make the bike nimble I think.
    Keep the videos coming, geeking out on the handling is ace.

      How did you get a hold of the S5 chainstays if you don’t mind me asking? I have an S4 and have been looking on eBay and PB for S5 stays.

    I’m 6’1” as well, 500-510 reach seems to be my sweet spot and I tend to like a more front weighted fit than most so I’m usually running an extra 10mm in stem length than others on the same size.

    I'm 6'4" (194cm) and I'm on the S5. If you look at the size charts it would say S6 but if I put in my height and lower leg length into the Specialized calculator it said S5. I'm happy with mine. I had to mess with the bars a bit at first to get it comfortable but now that I've got it right, it feels good.

    Excited to experiment with the longer chainstays! I'm between the S5 and S6, and I found the S5 to be the perfect compromise. While I really like the Genie shock, the Stumpjumper EVO had slightly better geometry for my liking.

    • @HighsideClyde
      @HighsideClyde 5 дней назад

      Agree on the StEvo geo being better. Genie on the StEvo would be killer, but I heard it absolutely does not fit

    crazy how much geo has changed. Especially seat tube angle. My old 2013 GT force LE has a ETT of 615mm yet the reach is 420mm which is the same as the s2 with its 573mm ETT.

    Here's a question that could be a video; how much does wheelbase vs other geo impact ride characteristics? For context, I'm currently riding a fairly heavily modified Ripmo af and I'm considering getting the new Rocky Altitude. I test rode the Altitude in a large, and it was a plow machine, but I'd only want to ride that bike in the park or really gnarly terrain. I was considering riding a medium instead for something more well rounded. The geo comparison is that my L Ripmo has a wheelbase of around 1240 from being over forked (1237 stock), a HT of 64.4 with a chainstay of 435 and reach around 473. The altitude would have a 1247 wheelbase (medium frame, long reach cup position) but with a 63.8 HT, reach of 463 and chainstay of 440. Given that the total length is very similar, but with notable differences in other core geo figures, will I notice much of an improvement to stability looking at the medium Altitude when compared to the large Ripmo AF, or is stability largely just a function of wheelbase?

    I’m 6’1 and always go for the smaller option. 475ish reach is sweetspot, modern bikes are so good you need to be a rly unskilled rider or dh racer to want a bigger one imo
