I lived and worked in Corpus Christi for several years. We enjoyed it. We did evacuate for a hurricane once, but suffered no damage. There is nothing wrong with being able to play golf in your shorts in January. Ended up moving to run a family business that needed help, but we very much enjoyed our time there.

I grew up in Corpus Christi and it's one of the worst places to live. It used to be pretty good in the early 90's. The weather is crap hot as hell 100 or over most times winters are 50's and wet. I see that you mention driving ..... Corpus has a record of the worst drivers besides Houston. Half of them don't have insurance or licenses. Another fact about Corpus is the new harbor bridge... was built by a company who had a bridge collapse. The school systems are one of the worst in the country. The only thing I can say about Corpus is the food is great and 4th of July fireworks are a must see, that's if you can find parking. The crime rate and drugs flooding Corpus is at an all time high. Murders are a constant thing in Corpus usually domestic violence cases. ROACHES... they are everywhere but to be expected since Corpus expansion. I heard nicest people ??? Since when ? Pay sucks and so does most of the jobs there unless you are going into oilfield, medical or refineries. sorry to be so negative but there hasn't been much change especially the gang related issues still there form the 90's.

I've been living in Corpus for almost 4 years now and agree pretty much with everything you said. Positive things I can say is great food, beaches that aren't to crowded in comparison to other states. Mild winters where don't have to drive on ice. Like you said most jobs aren't great unless your in the oilfield. I e of the biggest things I hate are peoples driving. People drive reckless going 80 to 90 miles an hour for no reason at all. Glad I live on the outskirts now where the traffic isn't a big factor anymore. Also I feel like a lot of people here are the fake kind of friendly. They'll say hi how you doing but actually don't want to engage in a real conversation.

@@markheatherton3294 This is true but this isn't a big city of course and shouldn't have the impact of worrying about whether your going to get shot on the south side because you don't live on the west or the Bluff. Been there done that. lets talk about the POLICE in Corpus..... I love the security they provide out there even if your the victim your were still at fault. facts ... take a look at all the tickets and court appearances from city records. drivers there are still driving like animals just like in other cities around Texas but just as worse as Houston. Anyone that has actually grown up in Texas can testify to that. Not saying you didn't grow up there but you know as well as I do that its true. Corpus is my home town and I want it better than it is right now and they need to do more but city wont do it. They need to repave the streets in these neighbor hoods that have older areas not just the highways. They need to put more effort in getting the drug addicts out of the hotels so vacationist can actually use them without fear of their car getting stolen. Just happened a few years ago on multiple occasions right off S.P.I.D.

I’ve lived here for 23 years and I don’t like it. The thieves in this town will steal anything that isn’t cemented in. I can’t even put a potted plant in my front yard. They will even dig up newly planted plants. I was told by a nurseryman at one of our better nurseries about one of their customers that they landscaped the entire front yard with succulents. Someone dug everyone of them up over night. The stray dog population is horrible. I read almost daily about someone that saw someone dump their dog or puppies. People find cardboard boxes with puppies or kittens dumped. These a just a few reasons I don’t like it here.

I think with the state of the economy right now, Corpus Christi is a great option for those with the means to move. We raised our kids in California and moved as soon as we could. First to Tacoma Washington, (2 yrs) then here. It was too cold there for us. The cost of living here is great in comparison. 30% less across the board! I feel so bad for family and friends struggling to make it in NYC, California and Hawaii. Yes, it's hot, and there are bugs. We live in the future and have air conditioning and bug spray. Its a nice trade off to not be stressed about the financial future. It just depends on folks priorities. I love Cali, was born and raised there, but the writing was on the wall. 4 generations of my family have been born in Corpus Christi & still live here. My Dad migrated to the Texas Hill Country a few yrs ago. 10-11 months of Summer & January. Lol. October is a great weather month. Snow has happened, but we're back in flip flops within about 3-4 days & headed to the beach. July-Sept is definitely better spent in air conditioning or a pool mainly because, even though the wind here wasn't mentioned, the Gulf Breeze is what keeps it cool & it just seems to stop in those months. Also, bad hair days due to the wind and humidity are common so just invest in hats, scrunchies, barrettes, etc. We are one of the most windy places. CC is also part of the birding trail & we have almost every imaginable bird come through here in Spring & Autumn so get some binoculars. Hazel Bazemore park in Calallen (our natural coastal hill area) even has Hawk Watch until Nov. For mosquitoes, buy some mosquito dunks or mosquito bits and invite Purple Martins which will eat their weight in bugs. There are DynaTrap machines that work, too. Those June bugs (Japanese beetles) seem to arrive earlier each yr. They are a pain, but not dangerous. Fire Ants are a different story & those brown scorpions are no joke. CC is definitely the biggest small town around & we will definitely strike up conversation in checkout lines or anywhere else. As for hurricanes, after my parents rode out Celia in '70, our family decided that hurricanes were our cue from God to take a trip to the Hill Country.
Be warned about pot holes. We pay street fees, but our city still looks like we're testing missiles in many areas, unfortunately. Invest in car washes due to the salt air causing them to rust, too. I love my home town. No place is perfect, but living in Houston for 2 yrs sent me rt back hm yrs ago. If I ever do leave, I'm headed towards the hill country area like my Dad.

My business took ke around the US, so Ive been gone a long time. I really enjoyed living on a canal home, fishing from my dock, boating the intercoastal, going to the beach. I really enjoyed the seafood and Joe Cottons BBQ. Im actually considering moving back since i recently retired. Ive lived in mostly large Metro areas including Las Vegas. My 2 cents, I have a property in Port Aransas and am in the area frequently. Corpus Christi has considerably more violent crime and gang activity than Austin (which is considerably larger). There are many areas of town that are impacted by the environmental pollution of the refineries and chemical plants. Additionally, being a coastal city, everything is in an accelerated process of corrosion. Your vehicles and homes are going to require constant maintenance.

And some places have been left to fall apart or so much constructions has made a mess of the place (heartbreaking to see). Other than the annual red tide. It used to be nice. I might end up moving there within a year. Phoenix is way too hot in the summer, cold in the winter, crowded, polluted, dusty and the traffic is awful! I’m finally done with living in LA east as many call it here. The people in Corpus sound like where I grew up (very friendly and down to earth) and not like the people in Phoenix who seem to be from big cities (mostly LA and Chicago) with no idea what living in a smaller town should feel like.

Having moved to Corpus from Houston, I can tell you the humidity is MUCH worse in Houston. In Corpus, its effects are reduced by the pervasive breezes off the bay. We can sit comfortably outside in August at 6:00 PM. Sure, it's pretty warm, but it's entirely doable. You wouldn't dream of trying that in Houston until late October.
My main issue with CC is the medical - it's total crap compared to Houston, or even Victoria. Six-month wait to get in with a new GP. Specialists that won't see you without a referral, and then won't take referrals from out-of-town doctors. Cancer doctors who can't get you in for two months after a positive diagnosis. An orthopedic group whose computer system can't deal with you seeing two of their specialists on the same day. Forms filled out on-line, then you have to fill out the same forms again in person when you get there. And on and on. Small wonder lots of people travel to San Antonio or Houston for their medical.
Oh yes, and the streets - horrible, just horrible. Also, my allergies in CC are about 80% better than they were in Houston. Don't get me started on Houston traffic vs. Corpus.

I call them the lost hills of STX. Being a former skateboarder. I still cruise it sometimes. There are some ridiculously steep hills on streets in neighborhoods off Red River Rd and the surrounds. I agree with almost everything else. I do find many drivers are becoming more courteous over the years. There are still folks with anger issues out there. But it's gotten so much better over the years. I learned to be courteous driving in Austin in the late 90s and early 2000s. Don't mind slowing down to let someone in or stopping to let someone out of a parking lot after the light turns green. I see many others doing that these days

@Fayyaz Ahmad I can only speak from my perspective. I'm a single black man, Christian, veteran, and senior designer. I lived in CC from June 2022 to Jan 2023.
A little Hispanic girl was shot and killed right in front of her father on New years look it up. It looks like 90% Hispanic. Probably more than 50 to 60. For me, as a black man, it wasn't that friendly. I lived on Ennis Joslin Street. I don't know the area, but it seems like the island part of CC is the nicest. I've driven through it once. Could be wrong, but that part seems to be white. But I didn't see many people when I drove through. I think the closer you get to the island and / or the shoreline, the nicer. Diversity? I mean, if something is 90% Hispanic, does that mean diverse?
The drivers are horrible. There are no jobs in my field here. That is just my field. It's extremely 🔥 🥵. I'm a home body and don't get out that much, but it seems like the streets of most of the city are bad. Tore up except the nice neighborhoods. It's impressive, lol. The bugs are bad. My suggestion is to coat yourself. Tons of construction 🚧. If you're moving from out of state, excuse my language, and you will be rped with car registration. It's amazing and I have a 10 year old car. If you're coming from out of state, it's backward. You need to register or have a car before you can get a license. ???????????? It is literally backward.
The food is not that great. Service is not good. I may return or even buy land. If I do, it will be on the island. But i love water. I would live on the island or Port of Aransas. I think Port of A, which is next to CC, is the CC experience I think I wanted.
Listen to the police scanner. I do. You gonna be around brown people. It's a Hispanic area. Are they accepting of others... ?????????. I'm not sure if you are Indian or Arab. I'm moving to Farmers Branch, tx.
I have never seen so mean Indian and Arab people in my life. So head here if you are. It's like most of population.
Long story short ... try the Island part of CC or Port of Aransas. Those certainly mad expensive.

I lived in Galveston and San Antonio. Galveston was a bit of a dump and poorly run, while San Antonio had a great feel to it, and I loved the food. Neither felt Southern, but Galveston occasionally did. If you were at a coffee house and someone got a call on their phone they would often step outside to talk. That NEVER happens outside the South. I've been thinking of moving to Corpus since 1985, this may be the year it happens.

Groceries and utilities became outrageously expensive when trying to live on hourly pay. I left in '77, and miss it somewhat....had fun there. In contrast with those good times, the city's social environment has really gone downhill. Infrastructure is suffering, too. However, there's still something for everyone there. Cleanest water this side of the Mississippi! South Padre is clearer but is too far south and has limited amenities, etc. Mosquitos are worse as you move up the coast. Scorpions are worse in San Antonio. Traffic is nothing here in comparison to most Texas towns. Taxes have gone way up but the city provides some good services. CC is a military city. You will find plenty of like minded.

Moved to Corpus from a very liberal state (not CA) to get away from all the liberal and we love it here. Yes there are some trade offs, but I’ll take mosquitoes and cockroaches over the mosquitoes and cockroaches known as the state government. Hopefully you’ll put a video out for all the reasons to move to Corpus. I live on Padre Island and we love it. Great neighbors, and community.

I've lived in Corpus Christi all my life except for a four year Navy stunt.
I must admit we have the worst drivers in America, and if you like living in a sauna then this is the place for you.

Nicely done bub. Living along the Texas gulf coast is a unique experience. But ya missed one BIG positive for Corpus...
USS Lexington. How many cities have a museum ship? Much less an Aircraft Carrier. It would be better for me if they put the Texas in Galveston, but i would like to see her and the Lex together down there.
    Anyway, thx for the vid.
Oh... and the state aquarium, they are doing some good work there.

The title says don't move to Corpus Christi but all the things you mentioned aren't that bad.. scorpions are more of an outskirts deal I've never had to check shoes in town for scorpions.. I do anyways bc I'm allergic to bites in general. Been here the majority of my 44 yrs and I love it here. .. it does get hot tho . As far as gang and violent crime, well , that's everywhere any place.. my teen and hs years were in the 1990s. here in cc , the gang shootings didn't become a constant weekly issue because Corpus Christi is small enough that nobody really got away with it for the most part and it's small enough City that whoever did the shooting couldn't go anywhere without seeing the pain and sadness of the family on the news everywhere they went.
Like you said very common to bump into people that you know at the grocery store. It's hard to be a hardened dangerous gangster and wave good morning to the crossing guard while courteously opening the door for someone's grandma and smiling... Besides , once Xbox and PlayStation hit the market all the OG gangsters quit going outside and stayed couch potatoes... Lol

@@actual_doge3221 not homesick but I’m getting older and I don’t want to die here. The other issue is the U.S government taxes Americans living overseas and I get taxed by the Japanese government as well.
