- I know it's Friday and I've been doing Fwoosh Fives at the end of the week but I couldn't get the Medicom MAFEX Star Wars: The Force Awakens Kylo Ren action figure out of my head. I was so indecisive during the review and then robe switches a fixes ran through my head all night. But now, now I think I'm finally done with my hunt for the main shelf Kylo. Until he changes his look for Episode 8, probably. ARGH.

That chrome on the MAFEX helmet is so striking. Every time I see it I'm reminded of that scene in TFA where Kylo looks over at FN-2187 and the flames from the burning village are reflecting off his helmet. I thought I was happy with my Black Series Kylo Ren, but now I'm thinking I might need a MAFEX one to do the robe swap on...
Oh man, I forgot about that scene, that's perfect. I'm a huge fan of chrome so this totally works.
And now you've made me change my mind and want to get the Mafex Kylo. Thanks Robo. I hate money anyways

Love these sort of DIY videos. I know it sounds ridiculous buying multiple figures to get that "perfect" one and normally we shouldn't even need to do that, but the whole mix and matching/customizing aspect is always fun and it's practically a part of the culture now.
Exactly, I've been doing at least tiny fixes to most of my figures since the late 90s, it's just second nature now to at least think about what could be better and how to fix it. Even when the figures are expensive.
To make the Kylo Ren figure even better, you can use double-sided tape and place it on his head and position the hood however you want and it'll stay flat and in place.
That's not a bad idea at all....

Robo I literally did the mod today after my girlfriend got me the Mafex Kylo yesterday! Luckily for me the Walgreens I frequent still had the mask-less Kylo. And boom! Got my perfect Kylo! Thank you for this idea sir!

Heh, yeah, but at least the Black Series stuff is pretty cheap if you find the right deals.
I did something similar to my SHF Kylo. I bought a cheap second hand Black Series; and transferred the robe to the SHF. It's one of my favorite figures now.
Good fixes man. I'm still good with all the original Mafex materials though. I like how I can mold the hood with the wire (my wire doesn't poke out), and the pose I have him in doesn't make the robe look quite as baggy, but what you've done looks just as fantastic in my opinion. Cheers Sir Robo!
Nothing wrong with that at all. If my wire hadn't poked out I probably wouldn't have been so gung-ho to switch it, but that just added to my frustration factor. I love the wire too. I may have to keep tinkering here and there. Thanks!
best way to bend joints or things that are all bent up, take a big cup of of water. put in the microwave for about a minute on High. put the effected part in the water for about 20 seconds..BOOM magic
thanks for this lil vid tho Robo, i do like the mafex rob only because the material looks more accurate to his actual robes as oppose to the black series, but at the end of the day. black is black lol and kylos wardrobe probably wont change much in The Last Jedi.

Personally I like the looser robe. I don’t know why. It could be rove generally look cooler when loose. It could be something with posing and stuff. All I know is that I prefer the mafex robe.
You make me want to spend money. I vowed to keep myself within the Figurarts, artfx and black series...and here I am ready to spend.

It really does. I can't believe it worked, I figured the Mafex was too big and the SWBS robe was tough to get on the smaller SHF Ren. Nope, easy peasy.

Thanks for this, I made the switch with Black Series robe and belt, then went a step further and put the Mafex counterparts on the Black Series Kylo Ren (unmasked) and it now looks better too. Unlike you I had no trouble with the BS belt on the Mafex figure - it went on easy and snapped right on.
I'd kind of like to see the MAFEX robe on the Black Series figure. I love it when you do these custom videos. My OCD prevents me from mixing and matching like this, but it's fun to see what works best.
Hmm, I didn't even think to use it the other way around. I figure it would look bigger still on the SWBS because of how the belt is tighter on the MAFEX than Black Series.

Damn it. I just did the shfiguarts black robe switch and loved it so much that I wanted it that way but after seeing this, I am filled with regret... probably just gonna stay with the figuarts.
Nothing wrong with that. The only reason I don't go with the Figuarts for my main is the height, I just have too many Black Series and models flanking it, makes it look short. I do have to admit the MAFEX has more range of movement, but both with the Black Series robes? It only comes down to height.

I knew you would fix this for us. I've been waiting for the mafex to come out before I purchased any Kylo Ren figures. Now I will get the Mafex and the BS and do this. It does look good. Thanks Robo.

Awesome fix and I have the same robe issue and because of that it was never in my display cabinet, but now I am off to buy a black series online so I can do what you have done to yours.
Totally worth it. I knew there was a reason I've bought four or five Black Series Kylos....
Dang it- I was content on one day getting the Figuarts Kylo and robe-swapping, but now I need to find a Mayfex one. They're almost the same scale, so shouldn't be a problem fitting in with the SHF line
The MAFEX is taller but dang it, it's so nice I recommend getting it. Can't help it.

clip off both hoods and swap and add the mafex hood to the swbs robe, just super glue them together and hide the seam of super glue with the scarf!
Hmm, I think that would work, but the materials wouldn't match up.
Dont know if it would be to many layers but Mabye try fitting the swbs hood over the mafex hood. I remember the hood being really thick in the movie, and the swbs hood being pretty thin. And even if the texture dont mach, i would still swap them, the swbs hood takes so much away for an otherwise amazing fix/mod!

I hate to admit it but I haven't gotten into Clone Wars yet. I'm all over Rebels but I need to go back and catch up. And find time to do that.
The Fwoosh better hurry, Clone Wars is coming off of Netflix at the beginning of next month I believe. Don't know the exact date. Just an FYI

I'm no Figuarts fan boy, so I guess I'm a purist. Need all 5 versions (I'm sure there are more, but I won't sleep). Looks like I'm getting a RoboKillah (Mafex) Kylo Ren to go with my RoboKillah (Mafex) Darth Vader. I'm sure there was something in the Bible about worshiping false prophets or maybe I'm thinking about Hellraiser's "Thou shalt not bow down before any graven image". I must be dammed for worshiping so many idols. The Fwoosh, The RoboKillah and the Holly Custom! It will be hard to fit him in without the Missus noticing. There are higher Gods in the household. I'd stick with your exisitng C-3PO as I'm sure he can be fixed. I'm still holding out for a Figuarts version.

try putting heat on the belt, and ever so slightly stretch it enough to close the gap

Ugh. I was really hoping this wasn't going to look that awesome. The chrome is what gets me it's just so crisp. How do you think it'll look with the original Kylo robe? that's the one I have.
It should be about the same, just a little bit longer at the bottom.

Thanks for that. I feel that hobbies should be fun, and if I'm not having fun, it's not worth doing it. Sure I'll get a little upset every now and then at money spent on something not up to par but for the most part, I do this because I enjoy it.

Exactly, and the Joker I got was pretty nice too. I've also heard good things about the newer C-3PO that came with BB-8. So I'm with you, high hopes for Rey. And the new Vader.

Hell yeah man! I had a feeling you would like the switch. I also got the 3p0 and bb8 two pack, it's a great set, haven't had any problems with either.

The Fwoosh I just got C3PO and BB8. Very impressed. Mafex did a great job with these latest releases. The Phasma is incredible, i now prefer this Kylo thanks to the fixes. All about the height. Next for me is the SHFiguarts Han.

It adds a little to the cost, grabbing another SWBS Kylo Ren, but it's totally worth it. Especially with the MAFEX being a little cheaper than the upcoming SHF version.
The Fwoosh WELL worth the cost for that end result, and still cheaper all in then the figuarts unmasked version. For whatever reason that is so high priced. And still needs platform boots to fit in.
I want to say the unmasked Kylo SHF is an exclusive, might add to the cost. I totally forgot about that. Yup, MAFEX is the way to go. Gawd, how things change.
The Fwoosh It has to be an exclusive at that price, he doesn't come with anything else to justify it. Made it official, canceled my SHF preorder and grabbed the Mafex Ren. Right? How things have changed in such a short amount of time too. Its like they figured out the secret with their ESB Boba and have been lettin it ride since! I'm excited for their Rey now!

Hey robo I just got my mafex kylo the other day and somehow the "potatoe sack" robe grows on me, all I did was just taking off its scarf and then it looks better, I know it has its extra thickness but if you took off its scarf and try to pull down the robe a bit (at least untill kylo's neck is a bit visible) it looks good :D oh and by the way mine doesnt have that wire problem so the hood goes well :D
I'll end up giving it another go after a while, like when we get the next Kylo or if I have some free time. Haha, free time....

That one's a little tougher, the glue might be a little more noticeable.

why not just get a thread and needle to tac the fabric together where it pokes through. using glue on fabric doesn't work for too long
why not also use the black series scarf too? it seems like it will fit the shoulders better since it's not as broad? Also debated on whether or not to get mafex version too since im quite satisfied with the original black series, the only thing i dont like about black series are the elbows and the saber (import sabers for kylo look alot better imo). Functionally i think the black series articulation does well enough so idk, although the unmasked head from mafex isnt too bad either.
I just like the sculpt and look of the MAFEX scarf more, just more detailed.

That head, yeah. I didn't even try to put it on there. And now I can't decide which one I want to try to repaint. I'm leaning towards Black Series though. But yeah, this combo is a winner. And burner Kylos are cheap.
+The Fwoosh I like the proportions on the BS head personally. The mafex looks small to me.

I'm going to give that a shot at some point. After a few days the belt seems to be pulling more and more, the gap is getting bigger.
Is Mafex Kylo taller than Black Series? I really want that chrome mask and better articulation, but with a fitting robe! My newer/unmasked BS Kylo seems a little taller than my original BS, and their robes are slightly different lengths too. Which robe do you think would be best on the Mafex? Is the SH Figuarts robe somehow better? You mentioned not being able to find it or something.
Naw, the robe I had on the Figuarts was just a BS robe, I couldn't find it so I had to strip another BS of it's robe. Now I'm trying to remember why I had so many Kylos, haha. The original BS had a longer robe, later there was a revision to shorten it, and then the unmasked BS had some different stitching on it. They all fit the same though, it's up to your preference of whether you want it to be longer or floor length.
You can't remember why you have so many Kylos? It's because he's *awesome*! He's my husband. Fangirling aside >_> I think this might be the perfect shelf posing fun Kylo, he can hang out in front of the pretty boxes of the others! Maybe I'll pretend General Hux is cloning him trying to get one that won't destroy his ship, and that's why I'll eventually have 20 😂 Thanks for the awesome reviews!

this somehow makes me think that medicom and hasbro are in cahoots, somehow it gave me the thought that medicom may or may not be in purpose, forcing us to buy hasbro blackseries kylo ren, just to make the mafex kylo ren looks better. in other words medicom helps the sales of the blackseries. lol :p

@@fragban5994 Tbh: You only really need the Force Awakens version (if it's like the S.H. Figuarts one where you can take all the robes off n' stuff), because Ben's base outfit is essentially identical in *all* 3 films of the trilogy, actually:
For the *S.H. Figuarts* one at least: If you take off all his extra bits and buy him an unmasked head off eBay or somethin': You pretty much have his appearance from The Last Jedi, and if you go even further n' add a hooded cape to that plus the repaired version of his helmet (or paint the all the cracks from that movie yourself) then bam: It's "Supreme Leader" Kylo Ren from The Rise of Skywalker! It's actually *very* handy, tbh (Only REALLY "needing" to buy one and then just tracking down extra heads and the cape) kinda means the TFA one is technically like the "be-all-end-all" Kylo figure, imo. Hope my thoughts might actually help some of you guys out when picking out one yourselves, personally think it's nice to know that even if they aren't exactly "affordable" most of the time: You can still get away with having a really high-quality version of all three looks of his without breaking the bank (theoretically)!

I used the Black Series belt. It's a super tight fit. The MAFEX belt is a loose, loose fit.
couldn't you heat it with the heat gun not hairdryer and stretch it a bit?

The Black Series or the MAFEX? The MAFEX pulls right off no big deal. The Black Series needs a little bit of heat to soften up the head, then it should pull off.

I don't think Revoltech has released anything Star Wars in quite a while. They did the few they did and never came back.
