    In recent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tests, the 2008 Smart Fortwo, the smallest car for sale in the US market, earned the top rating of good for front and side crash protection. Its seat/head restraints earned the second highest rating of acceptable for protection against whiplash in rear impacts. Smart Fortwo is classified a microcar, meaning it's smaller even than minicars. Weighing about 1,800 pounds, the Smart is more than 3 feet shorter and almost 700 pounds lighter than a Mini Cooper.

    I have 2 smart cars, They avg 40-42 mpg in the city, 54-56 on the Highway. They are very easy to get around town in. You can park just about anywhere ya choose. They only have 8 gallon gas tanks, so doesn't take much to fill them up. I drive all year long in them, yes in the snow as well, I have never been stuck. I have also drove one of them half way across the U.S. and back, 94 MPH is the fastest mine will go, up hill or down hill. no problems there either, with the exceptions of they are very light, so you do feel the wind, kinda like driving a cargo van.

    Incredible but my dad survived in a truch car accident, a big 15 ton truck crashed in his small 3-4 ton truck because of break failure. My dad flew like 10 meters in the air with the truck and hit a big tree. They say he survived in an impossible situation... the force was lethat, the big truck was driving with 100 and he with 60 and they crossed ways. The truck cabin got smashed in a small piece and he survived in a barely 1 cubic meter of space. He got alive in a situation that the chance was 1/1.000.000 or more. What i mean is if you are gonna die you can die from a car toy or hit by a 15 ton truck... if u gonna die u gonna die and nowone knows how and when. There is people that arent suposed to die in accidents like my father. (more than 30 points without anestesia in the head) and no broken bones.

      And large trucks running diesel just so happen to be much more fuel efficient than many cars running gasoline (petrol) on the road. Wake up and stop being so fucking blind. I'm aware you aren't familiar with MPG's (miles per gallon) but a diesel Ram Cummins 3500 (like I have) gets around 20 mpgs city. In comparison, my Toyota Camry that I had got around 22 mpgs city (I know, amazing difference right?). I also love how blind you are to the fact that MOST people who own trucks USE THEIR TRUCKS TO WORK. Are you really that dense to fantasize most "Muricans" buying these large trucks to go muddin', fucking their sisters while spittin' tobaccy juice and eating hamburgers and smokin' with their ol' pal Chuck?!?!?! That was a complete exaggeration (-_-), but it's clear that you truly believe Americans buy trucks because they dun' believe in that stupid "global warming" and like burning fossil fuels cuz it look cool.
      I don't mean to point fingers, but you two are ignorant.

    • @usfdave10
      @usfdave10 8 лет назад +13

      +EpicNEd that was a testosterone packed fun comment to read. The video and my comment were about safety and you are arguing function and fuel efficiency. Off topic but still good points. Do you agree/disagree with safety?
      Diesel vehicles have come a long way. The reason about half the vehicles in Europe are diesel is cost. Its the same reason hybrid and electric cars have not taken yet here too. The cost to benefit ratio is not there yet. Trucks have a much higher profit margin too. GM & Ford accounting for more than 2/3 of their global pre-tax earnings. (soruce: wiki & reuters).
      "Most people use their own trucks for work". Not sure where your getting that data from. But every source points to wrong, the most recent data is less than 40%. And that accounts for construction, farms, delivery vehicles, fire and rescue, police vehicles, etc. Ford Motor Company (source: 2009 issue of Automotive News), only 39% of the trucks sold in the US fall into the work category. Maybe you want to feel justified in your purchase, or maybe you think someday you might need to tow a boat or fit (insert item here) into the bed. But the data does not support your claim. Oh and the stats get even better when you look at miles of use too.
      Imagine if Affluenze kid was not driving a Ford F-350 and speeding and under the influence, do you think he may not have killed all those people, ie was his large truck size a factor in the death toll?
      If you have any other questions or can provide source for your data please cite them.

      +Gard Bjørnar Østvold what you view as stubborn, the rest of the world views as practicality. The infrastructure of the United States requires we have big v-8 DIESEL trucks.
      Oh, and there's more I4 engines in the U.S. then and other engine design.

    • @usfdave10
      @usfdave10 8 лет назад +1

      +Nathan Houston "infrastructure of the United States requires we have big v-8 DIESEL trucks" where does that come from? Did you mean to say can allow trucks and not requires them?
      The v10 exists in the US too, dodge and ford both have them. The viper was on of the first with Europeans adopting later. (source: wiki) So not sure what point you are trying to make there.

    • @nathanhouston7174
      @nathanhouston7174 8 лет назад

      Ferrari, Bentley, Bugatti, VAG, all developed 10 and 12cyl engines almost 60 years ago. Ford adopted a large cylinder high displacement engine after Ferrari. Last I checked Ferrari was Italian. And yes, light duty V8 trucks that can HAUL large loads are necessary for the American consumer, as well as millions of others worldwide who purchase them. Look at Toyota.
      Why spend a premium on a diesel engine that gets LESS fuel mileage and costs more to maintain, when one can purchase a light duty 5.3L N/A V8 from GM? Infrastructure meaning BUISNESS, buisness that drives the economy, thus contributing to the infrastructure. Not a difficult concept to perceive.
      I'll aggree that the majority of those who purchase V8 trucks on the US don't use them the way they were meant to be used. But flat out saying nothing requires Americans to have V8's is absurd. You couldn't buy a cargo van with anything less then a V8 up until 2 years ago. I'm an auto technician btw, so I know what I'm talking about. Any other points?

    • @usfdave10
      @usfdave10 8 лет назад

      +Nathan Houston Nobody is arguing not needing semi trucks and work vehicles. The argument is against people who think they need a big truck and do not. We can argue who you think developed (I referenced produced) the 1st v10, but that's irrelevant for the case of safety and the video.
      I misread your infrastructure comment. We live in a changing world, where trains run on less fuel, trucks will no longer transport gasoline as we move toward a more electric transportation based society.
      Imagine if Affluenza kid was not driving a Ford F-350 and speeding and under the influence, do you think he may not have killed all those people, ie was his unnecessary large truck size a factor in the death toll?

      ***** here is a snippet "The kilogram-force, or kilopond, is a gravitational metric unit of force. It is equal to the magnitude of the force exerted by one kilogram of mass in a 9.80665 m/s² gravitational field". So it is related to newtons, but only in the vertical axis, because that is where the gravitational force exists. These cars however are colliding in the horizontal axis, so you should only have the unit newtons, which is the unit for F (force) in the equation. F=m(mass)*a(acceleration)

    @Killer390 Probably safer than many older mid sized cars.

    @HMCS1997 That's why SUVs were still THE NUMBER ONE selling vehicles in 2010, despite high gas prices and the recession. Buyers drive the market.

    there is a inconsistency compared to other tests this company does. the difference with this car is they are using a protector in front rather than the solid and immovable barrier for the frontal small overlap crash test. If you look at other tests, it is the metal of the barrier that tears up the car and this has a liner or cushion, not the straight metal.

    I’m literally only buying this car to go for my drivers test cause I can’t park properly and this thing should be easy to park LMAO

    Lol! Funny stuff, but erm.. still it performs really well.
    I'm impressed with how much energy is dissapated from the car itself and how well it maintains rigidness.

    @ProphetChaser I didn't say that it is as safe as an Expedition?! Just that it is as safe than many normal sized cars. And the Smart is amazingly safe, not just for it's size. And I'd prefer anytime in heavy city traffic, finding parking spaces and so on - I don't need an SUV to get to the university or to work

    I appreciate his advice. Bigger cars protect you more.

    It faired well, but it is so light it bounced far away from the crash zone (potentially across 2 or more lanes of traffic).
