E- STRING too WEAK? Watch this Sound Adjustment video!

This is the first of four Sound Adjustment videos.
A common problem that the first string is too weak. I make here the sound adjustments with a violin, but the same process is valid for a viola a cello and even for the Doublebass. It's the concept which should be understood.
In case your sound post doesn't react exactly this way how I demonstrate here in the video it is a clear sign that the sound post is not properly fitted. Indeed not an easy talk. I need a few hours to do so. There are magic makers who smash a new post within a few minutes.....but this has nothing to do with the violinmaking I am demonstrating here.

This morning I decided my e string was too bright , and managed to move it about 0.5 mm further away from the foot, and the sound is so much better. I’m really pleased, thank you for your guidance.

What is the cello distance for the 19.64cm violin measurement? I enjoy your videos.

Hi Tom,
I like it when it is 40,9cm
A full size cello has a 28cm neck and the notches of the F holes should be at 40,5cm. Now when placing the bridge I leave approximately 1/3 of the thickness behind and 2/3 in front toward the fingerboard. So actually when my bridge is now 10,5mm thick it is rather 3,5mm; indeed it is, but I feel maniac when I answer you right away 40,85cm. But that would the precise measurement.

Does it affect the sound of A string when you try to adjust the E string?

It could; but it could also not change!
Depends!
Generally I would say every change changes slightly everything but it is most of the time difficult to notice/hear!

Well, on my home hifi (Kef) I can‘t really say I hear a difference in sound. I guess its like „ok let‘s move it just a little bit and magically my customer will be happy“-thing? I expected a greater difference from the clickbait title

Edgar has a very nice site where you can see his different tiers. I believe the handmade are the Linea Macchi and his master lines. You could also use his configurator for something specific. Full size hand made violins from roughly 8k euros to 40+k.
