Police were called to Princes Street tram stop this afternoon where there were reports of someone wearing their underwear on their head and shouting obscenities. A person was taken into custody and is now being questioned. It is understood that she has asked that 162 similar offences be taken into consideration. Investigations continue. 😉. Enjoyed the vlog as always, love you forever G!
The Foot of the Walk stop is so-called because it's at the foot of Leith Walk. Leith was originally a separate town to the north of Edinburgh, but urban sprawl meant that they effectively merged and Leith officially became part of Edinburgh in 1920.
Excellent. These trams are so handy for getting into town from Leith. I’m on the grey ship in the port of Leith visible through the bridge at 19:18 and again at 19:33. The tram stop right outside the dock gate is so convenient. The fares are also very reasonable and Edinburgh is a fantastic city.
Back in 2014 I did two trips on the FPV Hirta, which I joined in Leith, and I had to use the bus to get to Leith from Waverley station because the tram hadn't reached Leith yet. I said at the time it would be so much better if the tram was extended to Leith. Now the tramway has reached Leith, but I no longer work at sea. 🙃
Marvellous , just marvellous! It was lovely seeing Edinburgh again, and now I need to revisit that great city and try out the trams. Thanks, G. You're lovely! 🎉
Another feather in your cap, All the Tram stops in Edinburgh. You still need to learn "Knickers on your head " in Scottish Gaelic, lol. Keep 'em coming G! Ray xx
Edinburgh Gateway you can catch a train to the Fife Circle and the north of Scotland, Edinburgh Park Station takes trains between Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street BUT also Edinburgh to Helensburgh which is west of Glasgow and it also nice to see Lucy in the background as well, Brilliant video as well.
@@GLovesTrains I used to regularly use Gateway to change from the Fife Circle to the trams and vice versa. It’s where crew changes commonly take place. I used to use Haymarket regularly too because it’s about as far away from the stop I used for for work, Saughton, as Gateway. Fun(ish) facts - Ballgreen Tram Stop is almost on the site of the old Ballgreen Railway Station. Foot of the Walk is also very close to the site of the old Leith Central Railway Station. It featured in the novel Trainspotting. The only downside I’ve found with the trams themselves is that to save money TfE didn’t fit them with air conditioning, even though they are designed for them. Means they can get very hot in summer and steam up in winter.
awesome stuff the Edinburgh trams look amazing & im loving Edinburgh which also looks amazing i must admit i wouldnt mind visiting the city for a holiday one year and explore the city and ride the trams as ive had Scotland recommended to me quite a lot from people anyway awesome vlog keep up the awesome work
Scotland is my long lost love as Pictish as I am I haven’t seen her since 1664, but I love to see any bit I can. Thank you so much for this gorgeous journey! 😎
Great vlog G, I went to Edinburgh about 5 years ago and did some of the trams and it was epic. Definitely want to come back and do more. I enjoyed watching as always.
I love edinburgh. Got the tram from the airport into the city. So easy to use. If you'd have gone in the winter, you'd have seen flowing water and snowy mountains.
Great high speed run through the line - Edinburgh's one of my favourite cities to visit, and it's fun seeing all the places through your lens (and the various other travel youtubers who've been up this summer)!
Love your work! Its actually pretty crazy for me that you gave me some forewarning for Manchester trams in earlier video when i was there for marathon weekend, and now you visit Edinburgh - my home 😊
Great video G! I grew up and lived for many years in the West of the city. The Gogarburn stop is for the RBS HQ (or Natwest now??) there used to be a Mental Hospital on the site before it was built the RBS campus opened around 2005 and featured its own Tescos and other various shops. The Gyle Centre was built in 1993, the whole area is built on marshland. Edinburgh Park came afterwards in the late 1990's and has slowly expanded. Hermiston Gait was built mid 90's, not massively used at first. The TK-Maxx was actually a Currys originally. After the Sighthill Industrial Estate stop directly opposite the Booker Cash & Carry the tramline is built on what was a guided busway. I have driven a good number of buses that were used on the busway originally when it was in use. Many Edinburgh residents are angry about the tramline due to it being over budget and severely delayed. As you can see it mirrors a railway line from Hermiston Gait to Waverley Station and there was a very frequent bus service which mirrored some of the route from Gyle to Ocean Terminal but that was been gradually cut back over the years. Both the Gyle and Ocean Terminal have been hit hard by the retail decline. You'll notice the Edinburgh Trams logos on the seats, that was the original logo based on the old Lothian Buses logo which was redesigned in 2011 and the trams did not run until 2014! Also they were built with air conditioning for the whole tram, but it was removed before delivery to cut costs.
Hi G, really loved this vlog, great to see trams running again in Edinborough, they used to have them yeeeeaaaarrrsss ago. I was in Edinborough when the initial new works were started. They really look smart and efficient. You're certainly one up on Jen-on-the-move now as she hasn't done this one yet. Had to laugh when you did your knickers gag, goodness knows what the peeps around you watching thought...😅😅. See you in the next one. If ever you decide to visit Norfolk or Suffolk, let me know. Take care, Jon B. 🙂
Great vlog, G, and well done covering the whole line in one go, even if the trams do use up the charge in your camera battery faster than they should! The lack of proper connection to Edinburgh Waverley from the trams is always a pain, but I don't think they could get a tram stop much closer than they did. You can also get to South Gyle station from a few tram stops (Gyle Centre is probably the nearest) but it's a bit of a trail through a housing estate to get there!
Unless you actually want to visit the airport tram stop, the day ticket is only £5.00. Yes, that's right, you pay an extra £7.00 to go one extra stop from Ingliston. You can walk it in ten minutes!
Hello , ST Andrew Square tram stop is also Less than minutes walk to Edinburgh Bus Station that can take to Glasgow , Aberdeen , Inverness , The Scottish Borders and long trips to London etc Megabus , Citylink, Flexbus , Natonal Express etc.
Brilliant video G, I've never done the Edinburgh trams and I'd love to do them, amazing how it's possible to do all the stops on that network in one day. Also I find it funny how Edinburgh has a Newhaven as it makes me think of the one near Brighton lol.
Nice video G! I often use the Skylink bus to go between the Airport & Prince's Street in Edinburgh, but on my next trip I'm hoping to try the trams out for a "wee change, lass"
Absolutely brilliant G. My son lives in Edinburgh and he uses the trams a lot, and is about the same age as you. I thought your film was fantastic. The thing I find funny about the Edinburgh trams is that they have a recording of a bell played through a loudspeaker. Why not just have an actual bell?!
By coincidence I had a journey on the Edinburgh Trams today from Edinburgh Park to Princes Street 😂 tram-tastic video from ya G and good on ya for doing my native tramway 😎🏴 (even though it ain’t my home city of Glasgow 😂)
Since the Edinburgh Tram was extended to Newhaven. I do think that the Edinburgh Tram should extend to Granton and Newbridge. Overall Edinburgh is a lovely city and the Capital City of Scotland.
So - from 'Picardy Place' to 'Foot of the Walk' you have been travelling downhill along 'Leith Walk' - the street that links Edinburgh to it's historically separate port town at Leith. Today Leith has been swallowed by Edinburgh. Between McDonald Road & Balfour Street you will have passed a bar called the 'Bier Hoose' - it's historic name is the 'Boundry Bar' as it marks the historic boundary between Edinburgh and Leith. Foot of the Walk is so named because it is at the foot (i.e. the bottom) of Leith walk.
Great video G and I was in Edinburgh a few months back and I didn’t even think to the trams but next time after see this will definitely put it on the list to do and glad you enjoyed the experience. Croydon Tramlink next perhaps?
Thank you G for your inspiration, I live in a City on the East cost rail line we have just had Major works done to join the mainline to Cromer on the Norfolk coast, so as to be able to ship Wind-Turbine blades to the coast to service the North Sea Wind farms, we also have Marshalling yards and tracks, This City could at very little cost have Tramway that used the Existing rail line, a "TfP" in effect
I was wondering when this video would crop up after having seen you in Edinburgh on someone else's video. I love Edinburgh's trams and looking forward to getting back there to ride down to Newhaven from Picardy Place. Another great video, G!
Great video G as always! Had the opportunity to travel on these trams soon after Newhaven extension opened. Want to say that travelling to Edinburgh by train it is much easier to connect at Haymarket rather than Waverley, especially for those mobility-challenged like me. As you say it is a bit of a walk from Waverley to St Andrews Square, with steps, lifts and escalators to negotiate - not all of which are working sometimes!
The original line was hugely controversial when being built and once it opened. Cost over runs, allegations of financial mismanagement etc. However the proof of the pudding is in the eating as they say and they have been hugely successful hence the extension to Newhaven. Further lines and extensions are now also in the planning stages too so over the coming decade or so the network will surely expand.
23 is still quite a lot especially if you get off at each stop. That Scottish Co-op group is different from the one in England but they took over a few in northern England including the one's in Fosterley and Stanhope in Co Durham which you can get under the belt from the Weardale Railway. The other further up Weardale in St John's Chapel would be reached by Weardale Motor Services bus.
Great Video of Doing every tram stop. & at the McDonald road stop there is a Little Model shop called Harburn hobbies. (Thankfully you also managed to do it before the festivals as the city is really busy now lol),

I really want to visit Edinburgh because I have a friend in Edinburgh so hopefully I get to see her soon. My only thing is that by train is a long journey from Coventry to Edinburgh so I'll have to push myself to standard premium or 1st class. Enjoyed your video of course since I don't see trams very often 😁
I use the Ingliston Park N ride when I drive up to Edinburgh and the tram is great for getting into the city centre. It goes past my old uni campus (Sighthill) just after Edinburgh Park station. York Pl used to be the old end of the line, not been on the new part of the line yet
Surprised you never mentioned the Royal Yacht Britannia at Leith, it was built in my home town of Clydebank, along with the Queen Mary, the Queen Elizabeth, and the QE2
I visited all 23 Edinburgh Tram stops with a friend and got sponsored to raise money for a friend,. Started at Haymarket and finished there 7 hours and 10 minutes later on 1 September 2023
8:36 Given your surprise at seeing the tram platforms so low, one thing I forgot to mention in my comment was that the Manchester Metrolink is the only tram system in the UK which uses high floor platforms as when it was first built as all the other UK tram systems have low floor platforms (which is more convenient for street-level access). Given that it was the first modern tram system in the UK, low floor platform technology was in its infancy stage at the time in the UK (until the Supertram was built) and the Metrolink took over lines which were formerly main line railways, so main line rail height/high floor platforms were adopted for the Metrolink. However, I think if they planned the Metrolink a few years later, perhaps the platforms would have been low floor like the other UK systems.
Just up from the foot of the walk, you'll find two sets of buildings. Their red in colour and look quite apart from the usual grey or sand stone. The reason I mention this is, because there was a short lived bridge that used to go between them which serviced a brewer and a goods yard on the opposite side. If you go to NLS maps you can find historic open survey maps and arial photos of that area. Thought I'd mention it if your interested.
I did the Edinburgh trams a few weeks ago. I missed the airport stop because it was £12 for the full network day ticket, but if you don’t go to the airport it’s only £5 and I’m tight.
wow they went for bi directional trams and no turning loops, its rare here in Prague the majority of lines have mono directional trams and turning loops, some new lines (or old ones they are bringing back like 19 are bi directional) well some of the more modern ones can be driven from the rear for some maneuvers but noit when carring passengers as the driver has to kneel on the rear seat.
A great vlog, and yes of course there were pronunciation errors but you’re a sassanach so you’re let off, for now! And next time you’re in Scotland you need to do The Borders Railway! 😀👍🏻🏴
Did not expect a lovely song about alternative uses for underwear, but I appreciated it. It may have been referring to some cultural phenomenon unknown to me, but google got scary quite quickly. 😅
Info: a loch and lake are different- a lake has to be fresh water surrounded entirely by land - a loch can ve fresh or salt and sometimes os surrounded on just 2 or 3 sides by land

A great vlog, and yes of course there were pronunciation errors but you’re a sassanach so you’re let off, for now! And next time you’re in Scotland you need to do The Borders Railway! 😀👍🏻🏴
I love the way you point out every shopping centre an bus stop but ignore the royal yacht Britannia at 19:09 😅
That’s Fingal, the floating hotel. Britannia is around the bend behind the shopping centre. Though either would be worth stopping off at.
Nice vid G! Have you done Birmingham trams?
Not yet!
you can only get a train to Glasgow Queen Street Low Level but you get a class 385 dash 1 passing
