I don't even think he asked Wizard because he knew Wizard would be angry about buying another BMW.
Fuck him. A good mechanic can fix everything. Angry about what? Its not like someone is fixing it for free.
Not seriously angry. Have you not watched Tyler's videos to see their relationship? Wizard was probably booked up.

Do any other former BMW owners instantly get anxiety when you hear the chime? I do not miss those days. Thanks for the laughs Tyler 🙏🏼😎
Right here. But the e60 is gone
I got an e61, and gives me a heart attack everytime.
I'm 5 years past my first and last BMW, still clench my stomach everytime I hear that sound! Imagine having that on an alarm clock!
Isn't that the same chime you get when you insert the key and haven't yet put on your seatbelt? I kind of like the chime, but I get why it would cause anxiety if it went off frequently due to mechanical issues.
What did you move on to? I've just about had it with BMW, maybe a Mercedes?
Throttle *CABLE.* Cable, oh cable, where did you go? So silent, so reliable, so *SIMPLE.* You never miss someone 'till they're gone.
@chris younts precisely. Technology is a great ASSISTANT, but, too many things on cars are becoming too dependant on it. I don't mind a stereo with a touchscreen, and a camera bc it comes in handy for hooking up to trailers for example, but, it needs to have hard buttons as well. Throttle cables failed rarely. They never sold any. So, they need to make a failure point.
my car still has a cable, dunno why they get rid of them on newer cars. 90,000 miles no issues with the cable, tightened it maybe once...
I had a cable break during acceleration. Luckily, it was a stick and I just killed the engine and coasted safely to a stop. Not sure which is better?
And people think hyundais are crap. At least my old one has a throttle cable. Not even sure it has a throttle position sensor.
@@williamsinger4124 Mitsubishi and Nissan are using electronic throttle since 90's with no issues. The problem here isn't the lack of cables. The problem here is the implementation of tones of other shit, in a cheap way, to be competitive in price with other similar shits
You have done me a huge favor. I was thinking of buying a BMW you have convinced me to never do so.
This bmw he has is only junk because who every owned it before him didn't take care of the car. You can see they tried to splice wires and use tape to fix stuff.

BMW = Big Money Waste....
Gringo Louco easy to talk smack when you have no money to waste on a car
Why wast money at all? Car or otherwise.
I've had basically the same problem with my e39. A mechanic replaced my throttle body for a new one. Still didn't work. At some point it was considered unsolvable and I put that car away for almost 2 years.
In the meantime I found out that there was some moisture on a cable harness in the ECU box. Some of the pins on my computer were so badly corroded that they were unusable.
My solution was to buy a scrapyard ECU with almost matching VIN and deleting the EWS.
Now I'm enjoying my BMW again, as long as I regularly check my computer for water and corrosion on the contacts.
Nowhere on the entirety of the internet have I found someone with the same problem.
So...lucky you your problem was quickly found :P
Nice. What is EWS?
It’s a corresponding code between the computer (ECU), starter cluster and key fob chip. If the code doesn’t correspond it’s impossible to start the engine. So it’s an immobilizer. Look at it as an anti theft meassure.
I had this exact issue with my '08 750 li... I replaced the accelerator pedal, MAF sensor and cleaned the throttle body. Then it left me stranded on an on ramp, same issues. It was at that moment when I had to I throw in the towel... sad to let her go Bec it was my dream car at one point in my life but it was turning into a nightmare.
I see a lot of "typical BMW" comments here, so I guess I was one of the lucky ones. I will caution to never buy a used BMW from someone in their 20s, because you can bet that kid has beat the shit out of that car thinking he was playing NFS in his suburban streets.
My friends brother is selling one. He wants 18k haha. No takers.
Dominic Mako I’m 22 and buy/sell BMWs. I’ve probably had at least 40. Usually my customers are way older than me lol.
like it or loath it, but BMW were one of the first companies to have a very blase attitude towards repairability. The people who put money into their pockets are the rich or psuedo rich who finance/lease then trade up after a few years and that's how their cars are engineered to last. It's not that their made out of crap, its that they are too much of a PiA to maintain after 5 years.

The “screaming” when checking the wiring......I lost my s&$t. 😂😂
you would think that this mechanic would have seen the spliced wire when he had the whole intake manifold off.
The harness is probably fine. How would it drive 400+ miles without a problem?
If it ain't broke you don't fix it. It was all taped up and not causing any of the previous issues. Turns out it still isn't.
Seeing it is one thing. Taking the time (and charging the hours) for a harness continuity test when it is not an issue at the time can leave you with an angry customer or a lot of unbilled hours. Besides, if there is a cracked lead in the module, that probably the cause. Wire is wire and while not an OEM harness, it should work if its the right spec wire. (I mean you can go get OEM at a 1000% premium if you want).

I loved my E21 and a 2002 also. Rust issue here to in parts of the US.
E30 model was an excellent car. My dad had an ‘87 325 and when he traded it in it had only covered 48,000 miles. I was so mad he didn’t keep it and let me buy it from him as a first car. He regretted it later as well. Oh well. The car he bought to replace it was a new 2000 528i E39. Its only got about 72k miles now. No, this is why you don't buy BMW. It's the truth of German "engineering".
Nah, german engineering is very good - in places. Actually the cheaper the car, the better mostly. The 1.9 TDIs run forever, including most Skoda Octavias oder VW Golf 3 or 4 that they were put in - but the more luxurious the more bad it gets because they are often very experimental.

Yep. After 5 BMWs, I now enjoy an S-Class. I've had to replace 2 bad relays and a smog pump that burned out because one relay stuck open, but other than that it's been rock solid for 2 yrs now. Bought a used pump on eBay and replaced it myself in 5 mins. Repair costs have been about $60 so far. I LOVE the airmatic suspension and how quiet the car is. I have an M70 (V12 in the 850) and had a fair bit of EML until I replaced one of the throttle bodies. The problem was that, over the years, the lubricant inside the throttle body doesn't lubricate that well anymore. The result of this is that the throttle bodies get out of sync, and if the computer detects their values differ too much, it goes to limp-home mode. I've bought a rebuilt throttle body and that fixed the issue. I'm surprised they haven't fixed this in newer V12's !
“It’ll be perfect.” Hahaha good one
I’ve been resoldering dry cracked joints since I got into cars almost twenty years ago... and I started out with Honda Civics (fuel pump relay anyone?), not just a problem for German cars/BMW’s.
The thing is, Honda Civic is a cheap car and it's cheap to fix. BMW is neither of those two.
I agree, partially; first off, old stuff breaks; be it hoses, seals, or electrical parts; second, Honda actually uses comparable quality components.
Never heard of having to resolder anything in a Subaru except a dash clock. :)
TBH Japanese cars in general other than Mitsubishi seem to do pretty well with electronics.
Do not even START attempting to say Honda’s can be as bad as bmws..
I’m not saying that, just pointing out no electrical system is trouble free. Thing is, what made my CRX and Civics reliable is exactly what makes it feel so much cheaper than the BMW’s/Audi’s/VW’s I’ve owned as well, and that is simplicity. What’s not there can not break. I live in Europe though, so parts are plenty and cheap.
