The SSB is by far the best purchase I have made in recent years and I recommend you get one if you haven't already, regardless of training goals (strongman, powerlifting, bodybuilder, crossfitter etc.)
I do Yokebar SSB Squats and Front Squats regularly. The Yokebar has improved my thoracic extension a lot. I gained the mobility for a standard front rack position by leaving the bar in the rack while moving my wrists, elbows, shoulders, etc. It involved a little Meat-Head Yoga in terms of stretching, breathing, bracing. I did that for a couple of weeks before actually lifting the bar. A very loose hook grip helped keep the bar in the hand during all the experimental movement. I think I got this from a Brian Alsruhe video. Hatfield Squats look really useful. I already use the rack to stabilize Yokebar calf raises. Thanks Sam.
Pause squats are definitely a great way to warm up for your working sets. What I've done and I noticed that it helped in the squat and keeping my the most upright, is the front ssb squat. Turn the bar the other way and squat while.keeping elbows high. Lots of upper back development and quads.
I'm not in a position to tell others anything BUT pause at the bottom squats, and ssb squats are both great, surprised no boxes were featured in this video too. Great info as ever Sam
Excellent video, inspiring and informative! Question! Since the beginning I am used to the so called "Clean or Snatch grip" for Front Squats... I want to swith to Crossover arms... tips?
Dammit! Just when you think Elite FTS can't possibly provide you any more awesome knowledge, they go ahead and give you even more knowledge. Thanks guys! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
We use pause squats. 5-10 second hold at bottom & 5-10 second hold 3/4 of the way up. Helps tremendously on balance and controlling the weight. Great video! 🇺🇸💪
Excellent! I had completely forgotten the Hatfield squat (he was a madman!) and so I see some in my future! Also - I like torture and so, the 1 1/4 squat could be just the thing :) I wonder if I can throw some in to the program - I am coming out of offseason next week.
Bit late to this, but for me the front squat or sumo squat are the best complements to what I do. Haven't even heard of/seen a couple of these variations 💪
Yes, totally fine. You could pause at the halfway point 4 or 5 times if you wanted. But it’s really hard work and you might be better off with a tempo squat or leg press or Hatfield squat if you need that kind of volume. At some point you are just spending a long time with your legs bent with heavy weight so your mind might quit before the legs. No one likes 20 rep squat sets 😉
If your goal is strength then a good rule of thumb is you would want to put these as a secondary lift after your main work, maybe in sets of 4-8 depending on the movement
Check out some of the old podcast videos where Dave explained how to set up a conjugate program. He discussed how to rotate exercises and these variations are definitely part of that.
0:36 Pause Squat
1:58 One and a half Squat
3:25 Front Squat
4:52 Safety Bar Squat
6:16 Hatfield Squat
You screw up and they don’t edit it out I absolutely love it! 😂😂😂
Keeping it real!
All solid variations!! My favorite is the SSB box squat with chains.
I love your stuff guys, awesome! Thank you very much for sharing so much great content

Thankyou going to try this
Glad my SSB yoke is back in rotation for Saturday squats now. Feeling inspired

I use the yolk bar to do front squats also
Excellent video, inspiring and informative!

always good to refresh the memory of Variations!

Added Hatfield squats in bc I don’t have a leg press in the home gym. Thanks the the EliteFTS SSB makes it super easy to do.
I vote for Louie Simmons favorite: SSB low box squat.

I had 1 1/4 squats as part of a GVT cycle i did. 🥴
my favorite variation is the camber bar squat, pitches you forward more, in my opinion puts more pressure on the quads.
Hatfields are great but have you ever tried Hetfields? It's similar, but on the way up you have to yell "GIMME FOO GIMME FIAH GIMME DATWICHIDEZIAH"
Brilliant as always🙏🏻👊
Love the SSB
Great content as always!
SSB low box squats are the king imo. Less absolute load and hits all the general weakpoints that everyone has
We mentioned those in our last video going over deadlift variations.

Sam stronk!💪
What’s your thoughts on combining 1and 2 by pausing at the half point

I do some of these variations, but struggle with what weight and rep range I should be using

Front banded SSB front squat
How does the spider bar compare to the normal camber squat bar?
Great video, Sam!
Also, remember what Brian Shaw told Evan Singleton:
"Shirts are like fishtanks."
😄❤
I only squat so I have no trouble getting off the toilet!
Commenting for the algorithm
1 1/4 squats with the Yoke bar is literal hell....BUT my squat did go up so they work lol
Just Belt squat. Is all leg , no back spine neck . easy, and cheap to find variant of belt squat if don't have a belt squat machine
1.25 squats are great
1 and 1/4 sounds like nightmare 😅😥
The best squat variation is belt squats
Dude sounds like he has a cold
Yoke Box Squat is where it's at. Add forward bands too it and really hate your life.
Good, but no split squat? 🤯
Keeping it simple. I am sure people are sick of my sharing how much I love split squats!
@@eliteftsofficial live chat yesterday, dave said if people do not like who are, f ‘em. Let that split squat freak flag fly. 😃
I pause my squats at the top...
Am I only one which doesnt like SSB squat? 🤷♂️🤔
Everyone hates them. That’s the reason they are good!
to help you lift more, not to be stronger.
