- If there is one thing the Ole Miss Rebel football team is known for, it's their tendency to go for it on fourth down. When other teams are punting or kicking, Ole Miss is sending the offense back on the field. But while fans tend to enjoy the aggressive strategy Lane Kiffin employs, there's no doubt that it backfired against them against Auburn. Lucky for us, we were able to go inside the mind of Lane Kiffin on a fourth down to see how the thought process works.

Let’s be real the refs were god awful and made plenty of favorable calls for auburn. But ole miss still had their chances to win so they can’t really put it all on the refs

As an Auburn fan, I'd like to thank Lane for handing us the ball so many times.
But more importantly, as a huge SEC Shorts fan, I couldn't thank him enough for the great skit material he provided!
Lane Kiffan is so great that multiple teams benefit from his play calling.
Even if he went for fg it would've been 29-31. I'm proud of our defense on those stops though
@@Rapeado1 As an Auburn fan, I'm not so sure. Those empty drives killed Ole Miss's momentum. Also you do have the option to onside kick it after a made field goal. Personally I love a coach that's willing to go for it on fourth down - especially after Gus punting seemingly every time on 4th and 1 lol - but that 4th and 7 was a real head scratcher. There was plenty of time left in the game, and the odds of converting that are far from ideal, even against this year's Auburn defense.

@@aaroncorbett6352 I find that to be his most endearing quality. He's not afraid to be a joke now. Like the popcorn thing, he joked about it. Most coaches would pretend that they didm't say it. I also find his tweets to be hilarious. Since my favorite coach (Spurrier) is no longer around making jokes, I get by with Lane Trains jokes.

Ole Miss Alumn here. The defense gave up 28 points in the first half and I understand going for it in that situation. However, the defense gave up 3 points in the second half....3 POINTS and Lane still went for it each time in the redzone. Every postgame he mentions how Corral doesn't have his weapons and is completely banged up. How do you say that and still think it's a good idea to go for it in the redzone that many times? Love the short!

Corral has also been outplayed 3 times this year. Alabama, Auburn and Arkansas.
@@mickeytollison I think Arkansas is arguable, but if you put Matt corral against ole miss defense everywhere do you think he would get outplayed? Has a lot to do with our defense being pretty bad.

I was at that game with my dad. As soon as Ole Miss decided to go for it that 4th and final time, he looked at me and said "This is really dumb, but I'm glad he's doing it."
SEC Shorts is the most efficient machine in college sports; it’s imagination boiled down to a fine point with the least amount of steps to make it palatable to a distinguishing audience. BRAVO!

You know when the conference that you pull for, and where your team resides, has an awesome comedy sketch each week that nails the ways of the fanbases, the way they think, and the how they perceive their coaches is just freaking amazing! It is proof that it definitely "just means more!" These sketches should win an espy.

I'd like Dan Mullen to get lost in the Twilight Zone. I wouldn't mind having Lane as our coach. At least the offense would be humming and he knows how important recruiting is.

I expected this week’s SEC Short to be about Mississippi’s drama queens. But no, this week’s comedy is about Lane Kiffin’s inexplicable reasoning to go for it on 4-and-7. He did this several times during Saturday’s game. And I am very glad he did.
But the acting of his players, “cramping” on a cold Saturday night, is comedy gold. They could even become soccer players.

That dude will not be outbid on a coach he wants and a program that’s stadium seats 64,000 isn’t financially competing with a program that’s stadium holds 100,000 Lane will leave and get a raise to do so I think to LSU but it might end up being Florida after they get a new AD

I also know LSU just paid Ed O a large buyout to keep his mouth shut. Last time Lane went to a school that was on probation it didn’t end so well. LSU will absolutely be hit with sanctions.

Nick is clearly a legend of college football. It is beginning to look like some of that credit belongs with Kirby Smart. UGA's defense is what Bama use to be. Is Kirby getting the better recruits or has Bama's explosive offense infusion take the focus away from their D. curious what your take is on that situation.
@@anubiam3004 This is the same Kirby who last year at Bama gave up how many to Clemson? Kirby is good but even that defense is going to have issues with really good offenses. And no Ole Miss nor Kentucky classify nor does Florida. I say this even tho Bama only beat them by 2 points. Bama played extremely lax. Georgia is the better defensive team right now as Bama is the better offensive team. Bama is shooting themselves in the foot way too much
@@anubiam3004 If I had to guess I would say Kirby isn't getting better recruits (but I am not a football analyst or anything so my opinion doesn't mean much.) Football has evolved alot obviously. Teams will usually win games now if you have a truly explosive offense. I mean I would like to see Georgia play Alabama. Do you think they could hold Bama to under 21 points? Maybe; but I really don't think so. If the same defense that alabama had in 09 (argutively the best defense of all time) played today they wouldn't be as dominant as they were then just because the game has changed.

The SEC should do an instructional video about how tempo offenses are DESIGNED to increase injuries on opposing teams...and that therefore getting angry when the opposing team suffers said injuries is illogical...or at least, the anger should be focused where it belongs...on the coaching staff running the tempo offense.
Unless you are here demanding that we ignore player safety and force players to play through potential injury?
Because I can tell you now that that is a losing battle...akin to jousting with a windmill.
The flaw isn't that opposing teams are unethical...the flaw is that your own coaching staff doesn't understand how the very rule structure of the game is going to halt their offensive scheme.
