Great film, probably my favourite Studio Ghibli film. I would recommend reading the book. It's an easy read and goes much further into the story, but with most book to film adaptions, there are a few differences. If I remember right, the books delve a little deeper into the characters and a few things that are maybe glossed over in the film. There are also two books (last I checked) that are sequels to HMC. Castle in the Air, and House of Many Ways, which don't exactly centre on the characters from HMC, but I guess you could call them major supporting roles! If you do read the book(s), it would be good to see a video on what you thought, and how it compares to the film for you!

You should try one of the older Studio Ghibli's next like Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, or Nausicca Valley of the Wind! They're all fantastic :)

This is probably a film that needs multiple viewings to be fully appreciated as it throws quite a bit at you. Think you got it spot on with this review though.

Check out Amazons current anime series KABENARI OF THE IRON FORTRESS,its currently on episode 3 and has plenty of action and ZOMBIES I highly recommend it.
"Primarily a kids film" ... No. Family film. No studio Ghibli film is a kids film.

actually, a DVD can't be a manga, manga is a comic. a DVD then must be an anime, an animation (of a manga, or original)
