For those who have watched the entire interview: part one and two and at least have 20-30 years background. This information is priceless. It took me a long time to just get to the understanding of the difference between martial arts and self defense. I recommend watching it over and over. I think that if you can't teach what they are teaching, then practice until you can. If you can't teach it, then you don't really know it. (that is a principle from neuroscience ...check Dispenzas work) For example, I practice Combat principles, strategy, and tactics and that is my specialty since the early 70's. Then I decided one day to really keep an open mind and hear out some of the experts in the field and that decision was the game changer considering that I was working in a dangerous field. Here is Tony, who has revolutionized the language of self-defense and Tim who frames the mindset and tactics needed for real hostile engagements. It is very apparent they both moved past ego and compliment each others work which is pretty smart (and not too many pros do this because of ego) in my opinion. So here is my professional recommendation: take just 12 months and divide it by 2 and spend 6 months learning their material on a regimented basis and the results will be mind blowing. If your a teacher or a blackbelt or whatever- just do it. I even stopped teaching to do this and describing this journey is beyond words. I am 53 this year and it has just been the best year of my life in terms of learning and to do that, I emptied my cup. Its liberating, challenging, and rewarding and (saving the best for last) necessary. Now I practice everything from what I call the trigger position and contact points which make the tactics actually work. Of course that is not all I do, but just that has exponentially made the difference. It is worth the cost (which could end up being your life if you don't). ..

I faced multiple attackers which made me

Depression and Discouragement lasted over a year.
I was obsessed with UNDERSTAND what was causing me to freeze and stopping me to fight back.

The accuracy of these Teachings are just PRICELESS.

Tim, great stuff. Studied Tony's stuff. Very practical. Trained with you 12 years ago down in Dallas. My son and I enjoyed training with you. You were very helpful to both of us. We've studied quite a bit since then. My son who was 120 pounds when he was 18 years old had the confidence to work security and do security with me over the past 12 years. We've been able to fight when needed, but we both really found the confidence to de-escalate many situations because of the knowledge of when to fight and when to lay low. Been great. Came to the advanced classes and still watch the DVD's. Thanks for all the help. You even gave us you personal email back then to continue to be accessible. I really appreciate it. My son Jordan does as well. Thanks for sharing both of these videos.

The incident you related early in this video, about the mma instructor's reaction to seeing the two of you who, for him, represented the idea of learning to defend yourself in a single day.... maybe he was thinking less about defending his own beliefs and more about defending his ongoing livelihood which he perceived as you being a threat to.
Thanks again, I enjoy and appreciate your effort.

Great to see you guys doing stuff together. Both your approaches are in line with one another and compliment the other well. I hope to get to train personally with you both some day. Thanks for putting this together Tim.

Both of these were so incredibly wisdom dense talks. That business about big fear affecting whether or not a fight/attack begins is huge and nothing I've ever heard before. I've seen if definitely. Fascinating is how Spear and TFT can be so complementary. Fantastic description of what the goals are and are not. Many thanks again. I'll be trying to take a course (or more if I can) when things open up.

Tony referenced my embarrassing youth. I trained in martial arts starting as a kid. Unfortunately it was useless on the school bus being piled on in close quarters. Nothing against my training. However, it was martial arts. It wasn't self protection training. My mindset over the years (many years) has definitely changed. Nope. Not a tough guy now. Just more prepared to avoid when I can, engage when necessary. And noticeably, you support each other rather than touting your own training over other training. Thank you both

Great metaphor, Michelangelo and me with a hammer and chisel can break the stone. But my goal is break for what is my purpose in that specific time, for example, remove stone for allow my pet to return to me from being trapped. I must train to be proficient in using the tool of violence in the narrow space in life when is the only answer.
And I'm glad that you guys are learning from neuroscience to improve the design of the training that you offer.

As I stated before you guys are my 1&2 to go too and I’d encourage all martial artists to do the same. Everything that was removed from the arts especially Karate to make it a sport or more socially acceptable is right here. Combine this information with Karate Kata Bunkai and you’re pretty damn close to its original form.
Every banned technique from class & competition, Tim Larkin. Kata Bunkai especially from Kanku Dai
Heian/pinan Yodan, Startle Flinch, Tony Blauer. These guys are the missing pieces to the puzzle of present day martial arts. No rules, no referee, no bull. Whilst still teaching not to put yourself in that situation and only as last resort. Excellent. Everyone should learn CPR & how to use a Fire Extinguisher (Tony Blauer) where to place your hands & where to aim the extinguisher (Tim Larkin) Self protection is something everyone should learn. All life is precious including your own. Seek out these two and learn!

The best thing you can say about martial arts is, that it conditions you to set the adrenaline aside. This doesn’t give you any advantage against the attacker tho, because he is already prepared. It just gives you a slight advantage over the other victims.

Hi Tim, to answer your question why you and Tony get along is because you both communicate and listen while other's can't because of their BIG EGOs. I have a perfect example and comparison between my current instructor and my prior instructor. I'm a Hawaiian Kempo/Jiu Jitsu student / instructor.. My current instructor is Professor Feliciano Ferreira - aka: Kimo - from day one - he gave me the freedom to use my mind and question, he let me learn from other instructors or systems if I wanted to and he gave me the freedom to make adjustments to the things he taught me so that it would work better for me, and I carry that over to my own students. My prior was strict A to Z no deviation, if you wanted to train with someone else, he would say, I'll teach you even if it was an entire different system which he didn't know. Tim I've learned of a lot principles from you which I've implemented into my training and that of my students, since I found you on Instagram. If was still with my old instructor and he knew that I watched you he'd rip you apart and say you know nothing. He's got a BIG EGO, I over heard him call other instructors and told them not to teach his student which was also one of his instructors. Tim thank you for all you do and the information you share with us. Yes, I signed up for your master class..
