    Took courses with Tom Brown in '87....he really knows his stuff. The skill sets learned in his school is an extra insurance policy of ultimate survival. Great guest, Tim. I listened to his podcast where Tuhon Harley talked about how he started training under Sifu Terry Gibson until he met Guro Dan Inosanto then got a referral to train with Pamana Tuhon Chris Sayoc. His martial arts journey is very inspiring and he sacrificed a lot to get to the level where he is now.

    sharpies are the #1 knife fighting training tool! 100%!!
    approximately 12 years ago, i met a pj at an L.A. Fitness, and he spent months teaching me knife fighting (as well as other disciplines) down to a science,.... but then i met a private contractor named DJ.
    He kindly asked me to hold onto a heavy punching bag and he was going to show me something.
    DJ dedicated about 30 seconds of his time on a heavy bag and then asked me "during that attack you just saw, when would you have done ANY of those cool knife tactics?"
    i learned more in a minute with DJ, then i did in a month with a PJ.

    "When someone is losing, they change how they fight you, thus you have to change". That statement reminded me of America's longest war. I heard a someone who was head of Pakistan security forces say that it was in fact 20 one-year wars. America kept changing how they fought the war, changing people, leaders, tactics, and the mission.

    Maybe I’m wrong for this, but when people tell me there a bouncer looking for people to fight and work for loan sharks I can’t help but think there douche bags. Not to say you can’t learn to hurt people from douche bags. There has got to be bad asses out there without the same old back story.

      To get tough one must fight, ring fighting isn’t as dangerous, so the baddest dudes are the douchbags who fight outside of the ring.

      I see his situation a bit differently. He mentioned growing up in a violent world of his youth that he believed to be the norm for everyone. He wanted to have an edge or true understanding of violence born out of experience as he didn't trust traditional martial arts. I suspect that he realized the fallacies of embracing violence for the sake of violence and his perspective evolved.

    • @waderogers776
      @waderogers776 3 года назад +2

      @@torstenscott7571 Agreed Much like Lee Morrison, Tom grew up neck deep in violence, but transcended his environment....but by the experiences in that world, are able to share with us 'civilized' people the realities of violence and how we can survive while maintaining our humanity.

      I certainly don’t want to be considered a “douche bag”.
      I was just honestly conveying the things which were instrumental in my development as a martial artist. I did not try and get in fights with people who were not also willing to fight. I fact is, the vast majority of people who I fought when bouncing, were in the process of beating other people up who did not want to fight. In many cases I was standing up for people who were being bullied and assaulted, I have intervened when people were being robbed and when women were being raped. I felt I was helping people and I was good at it. I have a developed moral code that I strictly live by, I want to avoid being viewed as a “douche-bag” by other people who follow a similar code. But there are a lot of different ways to look at the world and ways to live life. I know some people are going to think I’m a douche bag no matter what I do.

  • @gqloc6768
    @gqloc6768 2 года назад

    You got soft Tim. Maybe it's age but to play second fiddle with MMA sport guys and getting rich off the real stuff from Jerry is disappointing. You know, the stuff that I too was interested in when I was in high school getting out and wanting to go to spec ops so I could meet you, Jerry, and Blake and was the reason I searched for the truth which was SCARS to your stuff but the disappointment started when I sent emails with questions and even asked you how I could be a part of your organization and you never responded. You missed an opportunity because the people you interview who are your personal subjects (for your big book) and their different perspectives, I could've helped you out in that department many years ago and you basically said to eff off without saying it and now I have all of this knowledge mentally but can't project it due to not getting properly trained or putting the time in to show I know what I'm talking about, got flushed down the toilet.
    As this guest, I remember hearing and seeing him once but forgot his name and like him, I had over 100+ street before graduating high school and not from some town or soft city neighborhood but from gangland similar to east L.A. or South Central or places in San Diego or Albuquerque and underground fights as an young adult and I've used SCARS in the streets but didn't end it permanently because I chose not to and it seems you're either a closet discriminator or you pick and chose who you'd train to be part of your organization based on what you could get out of the person and I was probably just a bum compared to the SEALs, FBI, CIA, and others you were around. This guy as well as others has a big following so you played the part and pretended you're cool and once you obtained what you wanted (your personal analysis which everyone is to you), you discard. That's the real you! Disappointing! I bet you'd try to take Jerry on now that he's older but I'm sure he'd still show you that you'll8 always be one of the bad students and send you off to the back of the class with Lew.

      I actually think these interviews are great. It's also brave to put your business rivals in a spot light and let them speak they're truth. You're still BUTTHURT all these years later over a letter? Guy that some weak sauce times 10. He probably did you and the Spec Op community a favor by weeding you out. I like SCARS and I like TFT, different sides of the same coin. However, Tim and Chris are actually humble and don't ramble about "secret formulas".

    20-25 years to learn how to use a knife is absurd. It's a extremely simple tool. This is overcomplicating it.

    • @PROT3CTPROJECT
      @PROT3CTPROJECT  3 года назад +2

      @raptorrochester You confused what Tom was saying. He was saying to become a master instructor in their system it takes @20 years.
      I understand where you are coming from but that is not what Tom said. If you’ve watched my other videos of SME’s I’ve interviewed (Varg Freeborn, former AB leader Michael Thompson) I think you agree they train very straightforward effective use of the knife.
      The sayoc tactical group gets students up to speed rapidly and effectively with their methods. Those that want to enter the instructor program, just like any mastery program, is a commitment of time.
      There are many other skills developed for that instructor process than just knowing where to punch the blade in the body using a sewing machine method to rapidly bleed out another human.

      I disagree. You want teachers to truly be the real deal and not give out participation trophies and Watered down versions that is more about a social club and money like so many other diluted martial arts especially eastern martial arts.
