  • Embarking on a tour preempting the release of a new CD (hopefully early 2010,) Social Distortion made their way back to my neck of the woods. Since my last SD fix was clear back in 2007, I was pretty damn anxious for this show:
Prefaced by performances by MC Rut and The Strangers, Social Distortion came out and played for a solid hour and a half. As always, Social D was full of energy, playing old favorites, some rare covers and even blessing us with a few new songs (bringing our anticipation of the new album to a fever pitch!) The show, from the openers through Social D, was definitely one I won't be forgetting. Hopefully through these recordings, you can experience the magic of that night too.
I believe this fall tour to now be concluded, but if you get a chance to see one of their shows DO NOT MISS the opportunity. And be on the lookout for their (*hopefully*) soon to be released new album. If the songs that they performed from it is any indication, it's going to be another legendary work!

I love how Social Distortion pays homage to the likes of Hank, Cash, and Bob Dylan. That's the mark of true class recognizing where the roots of your music came from and trying to bring younger listeners to know the likes of the old country and roots guys without which rock n roll would not exist. Thanks Mike Ness and SD!

they have a recorded demo that was never officially released. It was done abut the mid-90s, but it's not as good as THIS version. Hope this one makes it to the new album

He's part of the reason I'm a fan of classic country, so there's that. A lot of early punk was influenced from the classic country they listened to as children and mixed it with the pioneers of rock from the 60s and 70s, then the late 70s and 80s brought upon this sound.
