Clay plant pots & tubes used to work for getting octopus, not sure if people bother to do it these days though. You have to plant them in your preferred area ahead of time though, octopus will move into the pot and live there until you return to harvest. They do show up in prawn traps quite often.
Great video. Looks like you were off the south east side of Bowen. Sad to see so much garbage on the bottom. Wish the vis was a bit better but it was ok. Maybe you will have a chance for more dives in Howe Sound in the future.
I'm sure I'll be diving it lots over the next few months. And you got it! The location that is. Could have been better but also could have been worse. A fun mission nonetheless!
Hiya Mr. Samsom . . . .wow great opportunity Luvvv how the sweetest kiddos 'ever' are back in vids...they are too fab. Great mama Jasmine deserved allll the crabs I tell ya. Happy New Year 2023 to you and yours...may the new turn around the sun be filled with health, great adventure, and continued growth.
Yeah man, it makes me happy and sad haha. It's all a part of life though I guess. And I bet! I'd be itching if I were you. Hopefully we'll be diving soon!
Awesome! Happy you like the local footage. I lived in Surrey for a couple years. The diving off the White Rock pier and down at 1001 step beach is pretty fun!
I haven't watched your content in a couple months. Have been having shifting interests. But as soon as this kicked on ... I am just so drawn in! The content is exciting, your narration is superb and the local adventure is second to none. Chris, your videos are always excellent. We are fortunate on V.I. to have you bring back some clips of our temperate paradise. Thank you. - Dan
Still living the dream in BC, we love you man! It can’t be easy. Maybe do a fundraiser for your own boat? I could find a hundred bucks or so to contribute, probably others would as well. Could there be corporate sponsorship too?
Haha thanks man! Life isn't getting cheaper that's for sure. I used to have a boat but it was way too expensive. When Sayla was born we couldn't afford it anymore. I'm happy enough doing shore dives and going out with friends who have a boat and paying them for their expenses. There might be some sponsorships I could look out for but I don't have any time to look around haha. I basically need to build a resume for my RUclips and send out PDF files to various businesses. Not a bad idea though! I appreciate the gesture and kind words Bill!
Enjoy your videos as always. Is there a size of GPOs/reds you're going for? Down here by Seattle we see half a dozen on most dives(scuba), all small to medium sized
Crazy man. Yeah, looking under rocks and into cracks takes time. Time is precious when you're holding your breath! We're not picky really. I'm averaging around 1 octopus per year. I often see them in closed areas or sometimes I just like to watch them. Ideally, medium sized ones I suppose!
Great video as always! Where was the freediving instructor that you had mentioned located? Your videos have really inspired me to try out this sport. I'm located in Nanaimo, and I was wondering if you knew anyone who does courses over on this side of the water? Cheers
Cheers dude! Marko, Freedive BC, is out of Vancouver. I don't know anyone out of Nanaimo but Northwest Freediving and Bottom Dwellers are a good option on Vancouver Island. I'll have to make a video and lay out all the different instructors that are around BC.
This is awesome!!!! I can see both spots from my house ;) I would love to join you guys for a thunderbird launch one of these cold days and repay it with a spring/summer launch when my boat is back in the water at thunderbird (currently winterized). ( 5+ years diving experience - dive seal rock area constantly). Would be great to get a group going in the area! Cheers!
Awesome dude and sounds good to me! It's Geoff's call though as it's his boat but if there is room on board and your competent in the water I don't think he'd have any issues with that at all.
Haha cheers. Fortunately I haven't been trolled too hard yet. The odd person doesn't like that I spear fish but once I explain how sustainable the practice is most come around.
Great to see that you includes the future freedivers in your family - cute kids.
Thanks! Hoping to plant that ocean seed early. 🤞
An awesome way to spend the day.
Can't think of a better way!
Great content Chris! looking forward to diving with you soon. That wetsuit on you looks good!
Thanks man and for sure! The suit fits great, super happy with it so far.
Awesome video! Looks like an amazing adventure just in our backyards!
Thanks bro! And that it was. Crappy visibility but our spirits were not phased haha.
Happy new years to you and the family!!!
Thanks! To you and your family as well.
Happy new diving year Chris. Hope to catch you out there sometime.
For sure man and to you as well! May the new year bring a bountiful harvest! haha
as always great content! keep it up man.
Cheers!
