  • Today we are going through all of the numbers and talking about all of the costs that we paid when we made the decision to move to Orlando, Florida to be next to Disney World. From inspections and repairs to Uhauls and Gas, this is everything we paid to move our family 1100 miles across the country and relocate to Orlando.

Thank you for sharing! Your information has been very helpful to my husband and I. We have been contemplating about moving to Orlando. We go to Disney when we can and love shopping and dining at the Disney Springs. Thank you for doing what you do!

We sold our home in Sept 2021 to become full time campers in our 5th wheel. Sold tons of stuff from our house on Facebook! I would never want to buy a house again, love the camping life! So, if we move again, we just bring our house with us!! After living in our camper for over a year, you really don't think of it as a camper, just a smaller version of a house, and much easier to take care of too! Have more time to do other things! We are in our mid fiftys, so our two daughters have been out of the house for years now! We just have two dogs. One truck is all we need since my husband has a company vehicle. I am hoping my husband gets tired of this coming winter so we can move south!! In fact, there are a few people here that live in Florida for the winter then come back here to PA in the summer, of course they are retired!!

That’s very cool! I don’t think I could do it long-term, but it sounds fun to spend a few months in an RV on the road.

Thanks Dan & Leslie for being transparent with your moving expenses. We just booked the UHAUL from NY to FL & its about $3200 for a 20 foot truck & trailer for our vehicle. We are budgeting about $1,000 for gas & tolls for the UHAUL & our personal vehicle. Hope this helps anyone who is moving from the Northeast.

Both my neighbors had semi trucks & watched & micro managed their movers as they moved boxes into their house. One of the trucks was a connecting semi truck. Never seen anything like it.

Sounds like a military move. We’re a military family and every move has been like that. One of us is required to stand outside and mark off the inventory sheet. It might look like micromanaging but it’s just how those moves are done. Even on the civilian side, you still have an inventory sheet that needs verified as the boxes come off the truck.

Moved to Orlando in 2017. Left in 2021 and moved to north Georgia. Way better and we’re only a 6 hour drive to Disney. We leave at 5am and roll into disney by noon.

As a fellow swamp resident I would recommend keeping your flood insurance 😉. Even if you get lucky for a couple years all it takes is that one time or "perfect storm" and 💰 🤑. I've known too many people who were lulled by a couple "slow hurricane 🌀 seasons" only to get a very bad surprise of the flooding kind.

I so agree about the moving. By the time you paid to move and then we had to store some stuff. Yes, there was some family hand me downs....there's that emotional attachment. But cost wise, I'm thinking we should have sold/given away more of the stuff so we wouldn't have to move as much stuff. It actually would have been cheaper just to scrap most everything and just by new. Plus, we couldn't donate our sleeper sofa...we actually had to pay for them to get rid of it.

Hi Dan & Leslie. My wife and I are moving down soon as we just purchased in central Florida. I was thinking of getting a generator as well. Did you have a whole house generator and what size and did you go with Generac. Do you have cable or something like RUclips TV. Your videos are extremely informative and helpful. Thanks so much. Always look forward to these videos from you.

    • @AddictedtotheMouse

No, we had a generac on our first home in Oklahoma and literally never used it. We got a Champion 7500 watt dual fuel. Cheaper and portable

Do not underestimate the value of a full service company. If you have seriously heavy items like a full sized safe it can be worth it. I've used full service companies in the past and I'll be doing it again for our upcoming move. They come in and they pack without sentimentality, they pack to reduce the odds of damage. So it's done in 1-2 days. You label everything well and they put it all away for you. You're done within a few days and ready to start living life. I'll have a newborn in September and someone else can do the packing. I'll be in my bed until they carry it away...
