Peter Gabriel is beyond compare. He’s in a category all his own. As a performer, as an artist, I don’t even know what genre to classify him as. Phenomenal.
The life and message of Peter Gabriel from a respect of humanity perspective is nothing short of an world treasure. Even more than being an accomplished musician, Peter Gabriel’s message of color blind peace embodies everything that is good within us. His love and respect for Nelson Mandela is emotional to me and it gives me a glimpse of a heart that is seen less and less in the world. Peter Gabriel’s music is a gift, his message however, is a treasure. Thank you Peter. Peace.
The joy, the love, the absolute perfection of music in all of it’s forms and chords. This live version of this amazing song always makes me smile hard, the entire time I’m watching it. The humanity that’s shared in this performance takes your breath away.
A Peter Gabriel concert is not just a musical event- it's a multisensory experience. If you can find any footage from his Growing Up tour- it was indescribable. Every song- the set changed a little. He is an amazing artist. So glad you chose this version! And Paula Cole is a fantastic artist in her own right!
Manu Katche is a monster. This whole concert is a must watch..I'm blessed to know a couple people in this lineup BTW they are on the smaller of two stages
Manu Katche is a beast as is Tony Levin on bass and Paula Coles vocals are fantastic in her own right. This is the rare case where the studio versions were great, yet the live versions just blow them away. The whole concert (Secret World Live) is just as good and all worth a watch and listen.
When I saw Peter Gabriel live on his Scratch My Back tour, I finally appreciated his greatness. One of the finest singers I have ever witnessed live in over 1700 gigs I have attended.
The bass player is studio legend Tony Levin, who played for a few progressive bands like King Crimson, Liquid Tension Experiment, and some concerts with ABWH (a version of Yes).
His record label has a band called Afro Celt Sound System that has an interesting style drawing on many influences. Peter Gabriel was a guest vocalist on their song, When You’re Falling. It’s a beautiful song with a similar cheerful vibe. It’s worth a listen. His vocals are so amazing.
You got it all right...the music, the commentary, the vibe. We need more people to listen to artists like Peter Gabriel, who want to bring people together instead of divide.
So totally agree with all you said about bringing people together....just ran across a song that had me feeling the same way! Foreigner...I Want To Know What Love Is...official video. Every time I see it, by the time it's over I'm smiling!! Loving your channel!!!!!
Love you opening up to new but old music, I saw him in genesis 73,AMAZING!!! god blessed him thru out his career with them and solo, ty 4 making me believe in music again. Love your t shirt 2!!! Tytyty!!!
I’m so glad you’ve discovered Peter Gabriel. You can find so many live performances from over the years.. from when he was young until recently. Happy listening ...
Loved it. I know you love the Hammond B3 Organ and Drums. I am going to point you again to Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Danny Federici and Max Weinberger respectively. My go to remain "Light of Day" Live NYC for Max's incredible drums and then Danny's work on the B3 on "Tenth Avenue Freeze Out" also live in NYC. but also The Promised Land Live in Barcelona. Please please react. I just think group is going to hit you with what you love.
For what it’s worth, you are absolutely bang on in your sentiments. You can see for yourself the beauty that happens when you open your heart and see the possibilities that surround us every day. Politicians polarize us. It’s all bull. Look what happens when you collaborate with everyone. And as a stage production I can tell you from experience that a live show at this level you will never forget. Some artists have incredible voices or musicianship but it doesn’t translate at the concert hall. This is art.
We are privileged to be in the presence of one of the greatest contemporary artists of our time. Right from the beginning as the frontman for Genesis in the early 70s, Peter Gabriel's genius was irrefutable. Gabriel and Genesis gave us one of the greatest epic masterpieces of that decade, 'Supper's Ready'. I highly recommend the 1972 studio recording...devastating.
Manu Katche on drum and Tony Levin on bass.....one could almost miss what they're doing with all that's going on around them but they are absolutely crushing it. But man, such a beautiful world music performance on that stage.
This is from Secret Wold Live 1994. Can't count the number of times I've watched it. It is a religious experience. It will take you to planes of existence unknown. Bellissimo!
Peter Gabriel when he 1st left Genesis he was experimental with his music. The album Security is a classic early Peter Gabriel. The song" I Have The Touch" is a song you would like! Good drumming!
For a similar vibe, check out the live performance of Paul Simon with the band Black LadySmith Mombasa done in South Africa just toward the end of Apartheid.....they wanted him to hold a segregated concert and he refused, so it’s a mixed audience....Listen to the song Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes......
I looked through your reaction catalog and to my surprise I saw no Steely Dan. As someone who grew up in a house with jazz playing, you my friend need, I say need, to checkout this band. They are basically two talented songwriter/ musicians who use the best session players including many I’m sure you will be familiar with. Their early years were as pretty much a standard band but later on they employed musicians who they thought might give them the sounds they were looking for. Checkout any album for great songs, but for what I’m talking about go to The Royal Scam, Katy Lied, Gaucho off the top of my head. Peace!
Peter Gabriel was one of the leading artists to embrace the late-20th-century genre called "Worldbeat," which mixed western pop/rock music with music from other countries, particularly African and Caribbean ones. Music was one of the driving forces behind the fall of apartheid in South Africa. Johnny Clegg & Savuka, Paul Simon and Ladysmith Back Mambazo, and David Byrne were other performers in this genre.
I came home to my apartment in 1999 and hit play on my answering machine, and there was a long 'beeeeep', and then a voice began singing this song, a cappella--the whole thing. I didn't know the song and I had no idea who it was. (I worked in a music store with about 60 people who all sang and played in bands, and i was very 'social'. Ahem.) But it ended up being a man i worked with--a composer. We became inseparable best friends, we got married, and our first child's middle name is Eden, after another Peter Gabriel song. Thanks for a beautiful memory. I forget there was a time i didn't know Peter Gabriel...
One of the greatest shows that I've been to. Just do the whole DVD, to get the full experience. He kept the core of this band together for quite a while; Manu Katche, Tony Levin, David Rhodes, and L. Shankar. Papa Wemba is singing the live African vocals that Youssou N'Dour did in the studio.
You should defintily check out the live version of "Games without frontiers" from "Growing up live". That's just plain crazy what he did there... Never seen anything like this before and ever since.. This guy is so much "next level", it's just insane...
Peter Gabriel is absolutely fantastic he was the singer for Genesis back in the day and when he left the group I followed him everywhere he went. Check out the song I did Called Solisbury Hill.
Mr. Wilburn, If you liked this, then you should check out some more "world music". I know you like Peter Gabriel, so I would recommend "While the Earth Sleeps" by Deep Forest w/Peter Gabriel. Deep Forest was a pioneer in world music, so hopefully you will check out more of them as well.
After years of missing out, I finally got to see Gabriel in concert 5 years ago. United Center with Sting, Rock, Paper, Scissors tour. They shared the stage all throughout the show, singing each others songs. When Sting belted out Gabriel era Genesis Selling England by the Pound, I went crazy. As I am a lifelong everything Genesis fan.
The female singer is named Paula Cole. She is great. Her biggest hits were "Where Have All The Cowboys Gone" and "I Don't Wanna Wait" (which became the theme for a popular TV show in the 1990s called "Dawson's Creek"). They are both good songs. Her song "Feelin' Love" is a sultry soul song and also a good one
This song represents what the world should be full of. Sharing pure joy. The one language they are speaking in some parts is Wolof, which is the main language spoken in Senegal. The other language they are all speaking is Music, the true universal language! I get goosebumps when I watch this performance. Thanks for spreading the joy!
This is a great performance. The studio version has the great Yousou N'Dour, the Elvis of Senegal, on featured vocals. Two one of a kind talents from very different backgrounds.
Manu Katche is at the playground on stage. He was probably playing a Tour Custom kit. I owned one of the Yamaha Manu Katche Junior kits (for kids) and took it to a lot of Chicago gigs. Can carry everything to play in one trip!
Probably a Recording Custom kit like Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, and Omar Hakim were playing back in the day. Sounds unbelievable on stage. Carter Beauford (Dave Matthews Band) swears by those drums as well.
Peter Gabriel is beyond compare. He’s in a category all his own. As a performer, as an artist, I don’t even know what genre to classify him as. Phenomenal.
The genre is Peter Gabriel
@@Jeuwseph works for me. He’s my favorite solo artist. Has been for many years.
The woman singing is Paula Cole who has recorded hit albums of her own solo.
OMG--do Paula Cole "Feelin' Love"!!! (studio version)
It's next-level sexy soul, but i don't want to say anything else.
@@ingridfong-daley5899 You are not wrong. And “Me” for tear-jerking strength.
A free spirit is Peter Gabriel. Joy. Pure joy.
Peter Gabriel is a great artist and a positive force in the world. I was fortunate to see him once on the same bill as David Bowie.
It’s not politics talking about this, it’s about being human and Peter Gabriel and this song is a testament to the love of all humanity.
The life and message of Peter Gabriel from a respect of humanity perspective is nothing short of an world treasure. Peter Grabriel singing perfectly WHILE DOING CARDIO. 😳
Lol👍🏻❤️☮️
Like David Byrne at Talking Heads concerts! :)
@@ingridfong-daley5899 Exactly! 🙂
Peter has a better gas tank than some professional athletes, haha.
he sings Salisbury Hill whilst riding a bike in this concert

FACTS. 👌
I saw him with Sting during the Brand New Day tour was amazing!!
Yup Manu Katche is among the best. So awesome and fluid.
This was more than a song, it was an experience! Wish I had been there!
Absolutely best show I've ever been to. Peter Gabriel is a genius.
This is one of those special performances everyone should see. Thank you for doing this.
Manu Katche is a beast as is Tony Levin on bass and Paula Coles vocals are fantastic in her own right. This is the rare case where the studio versions were great, yet the live versions just blow them away. The whole concert (Secret World Live) is just as good and all worth a watch and listen.
Yeah, this whole concert is incredible. I was a teenager when this happened, and I wish I'd been there!!
Yes this is by far the best version of his song. The whole concert is a must watch.
Peter Gabriel and David Byrne. Two of a kind.
When I saw Peter Gabriel live on his Scratch My Back tour, I finally appreciated his greatness. One of the finest singers I have ever witnessed live in over 1700 gigs I have attended.
Yes! Thank you 😊
This is one of my favorite performances every. It just makes me happy.
This is what a perfect world looks like to me. So joyful.
The bass player is studio legend Tony Levin, who played for a few progressive bands like King Crimson, Liquid Tension Experiment, and some concerts with ABWH (a version of Yes).
And Bowie.
That entire concert is worth watching. It's great just watching the joy flow to the audience and back to the performers.
Music binds us all.
I love this performance. It brings tears to your eyes. “In your eyes”.
This is one of my all time favs.✌️😊
Love this performance, love Peter's voice but I am obsessed with the drummer....
Whenever I'm feeling down, I pull this video up!
That song is so beautiful itself but this performance is so spectacular! Great reaction Chod.
This is considered one of the Greatest Love Songs of all time Please do BIKO
This is the world I choose to live in. 💜
And what a beautiful world it is!
"Biko", "Solsbury Hill", and "Shaking The Tree" are three more great Peter Gabriel songs; enjoy the studio versions and the live versions.
Don't Give Up and Mercy Street as well.
Anything from Secret World is incredible. I do love the diverse ethnicity of the musicians onstage -- they are all so talented.
That young lady is absolutely stunning and has the voice of an angel
Beautiful performance to a great song.
I never tire of this video. 🥰

That wasn’t a concert. That was a show. He’s not just a singer but rather an entertainer.
Good point. But it is mostly a Spiritual experience.
Amen!I agree 100 percent.
You got it all right...the music, the commentary, the vibe. We need more people to listen to artists like Peter Gabriel, who want to bring people together instead of divide.
Right on , brother !!! All mankind coming together as one ...so beautiful ...is just a glimpse of what this world will soon become. ( Psalm 37:11 )
The beauty of World Music!
Yes! Music goes to that little slice of our humanity that unites us. Well said!
