One thing Peter Gabriel did in this concert that you don't see much of anymore... One of the reasons there were so many people on stage at the end is because... I think... The opening band was brought back out. If I have the story straight. His opening act for this tour was an African singing group. The lead singer of which is featured near the end of the song. At the last part of the song the entire group joins the stage for a final celebration. Just one of the many ways Peter Gabriel showed appreciation for other artist.
Agreed. And the “Secret World” that ended the set is one of the most amazingly-staged pieces ever. I highly recommend the entire concert. 14:18 Genius? Absolutely.
I saw this live in 1986 or 7 and it was insanely beautiful. This is different from that, it's always different live, but even the radio version of this song was genius. It's one of my two all-time favorite songs. I can't get enough of it.
I caught the So tour in LA in December of '86. The show included a very similar version of this song, also with an African accompaniment. The entire show was beyond incredible, easily the best concert I ever attended.
If we had to pick one thing to send out into space to show what humans are like and what they’re capable of, I’d send out this video. It’s the most joyful, collaborative and beautiful 7-10 minutes I think I’ve ever seen.
Love this song!! The energy and talent on that stage!! Incredible!!! I do agree with you that this was genius! The performance was just about perfect!! Everyone on that stage shared their talents of musicality which came together remarkably!! Thoroughly ensightful and enthusiastic reaction!! 💜🎵💜🎵 great request, Chris!!
💥💥Peter Gabriel was with Genesis until only 1975. He then had an incredible solo career. 🎤 Oh, this made me smile. I have always enjoyed this song, and this version is no exception, it was magical. 🎶🎙Peter Gabriel's voice is unmistakable and special. I love your reactions Hap, as you always point out this I have never seen or heard before, which I appreciate. You do manage to always manage to be positive and respect the musical process. Not all music is everyone going to like, but there is something for everyone in this world.🎶. Terrific song choice Chris!! Peace J ✌ ☮ 💕
Awesome concert performance! If you've never heard the studio version of "In Your Eyes" before, I highly recommend it. It doesn't have as many bells and whistles as this concert version, but it's just as soothing and beautiful.
Yousou'NDour is from Senegal and Peter has done so much campaigning and work for black African rights and anti apartheid he was receiving death threats at one point . Carry on Peter ✊
This was a captivating performance. Peter Gabriel is a true musical genius. This was special for me, as this song/words carry itself. Thank you for sharing, my dear. His work is unique and beautiful.
Try him with Genesis the song Firth of Fifth amazing song When you ready for a long one Suppers Ready is over 20 min of Prog Magic in my top 10 Rock On
I just bought a DVD of The Secret World Live Tour by Peter Gabriel, it is as good throughout as "in your eyes". Spectacular. I saw him for the first time live in 1978. He is one of a kind. I grew up with his music from 1976 on. Dive on in. You will not be sorry. He has always had a very heavy African influence as well.
Yes, that was absolutely captivating! And they were all dancing all the time! 🙂 I love Peter Gabriel, he's fantastic but, wow, that girl has a voice that blew me away!
Yes, you're right. It was genius as a performance and composition. And you had the sense to stay out of the way of it. I only came across this performance recently and it blew me away though I've always like Peter Gabriel. Thanks for your reaction!
From this same show.. "Come Talk to Me" with Paula Cole (the woman in the black dress) is amaaaazing. It was a song he wrote for his daughter during his divorce.
I haven't seen this performance before! It's beautiful and hypnotic. I love his voice. I always thought the radio single was great and it was used beautifully in the John Cusak movie, Say Anything (1989), but this is another level. The only time I saw Peter Gabriel was on the Amnesty International tour with Sting and Springsteen. If you enjoyed this, you'd probably enjoy the three of them together also. Great reaction!!
That tour was one of the best I got to witness here in the States. The whole Secret World Live concert is phenomenal and is all on RUclips, Sledgehammer included and you want to see it live, not the music video. The female singer is Paula Cole who also had a hit called Where Have All The Cowboys Gone. Loved your reaction and you got to witness Peter in all his glory. Looking forward to more.
I was hooked in the song and performance when I saw this for the first time. I remember hearing Peter singing the song on the radio alot 25+yrs ago. This performance was different but perfect for this old hit of his!!♥️💥
As you mentioned, an interesting but so beautiful and well-crafted composition. Oh, I love this interplay of different voices, sounds and even languages. And this lovely choreography 😍. It's a very light and uplifting song. It shows me what fantastic music can be created when such different people, cultures and voices come together. They seemed to enjoy it and conveyed it perfectly to the audience. It was kind of contagious. Did you notice the audience turning the lights on and off to the beat at the beginning? I love this channel because I get to hear such wonderful music here that I would never look for myself. Great reaction HAP and fantastic recommendation from Chris🥰🙋🏻♀
Check out the rest of the concert, you'll be glad you did! Peter Gabriel is so talented, on so many levels. Cat Stevens had a song called, "Katmandu"...Peter Gabriel played the flute on the recording in 1970. Peter had a huge hit with, "Solisbury Hill", which is about his decision to leave Genesis and embark on a solo carrer.
Going off music topic here. Always wondered what the humidity was like in the UK. Especially with the temps lately. Also if you wanted to could you get air conditioning there? Keeping up with all the weather/fire news across the pond. Hope you are able to stay at least a little cool during this heat wave!
lol....your engish sounds billiant mate and of course Peter Gabriel is great. did you live in a cave or in a basement .... you are born on the same island..... hello?
This version is like a religious experience. A bunch of different genders and nationalities singing and dancing and having fun on stage
Peter introduced me to world music, and I am forever grateful.
Music is a universal language

This is one of the best live vids EVER. Talk Talk in Montreux is also amazing
I concur! ❤ this so much!
One of the most moving videos. Like a religious experience
Genius is the right word.
This is less a song and more a beautiful shared experience...

Genius. You need more Gabriel AND Genesis.
If we had to pick one thing to send out into space to show what humans are like and what they’re capable of, I’d send out this video. It’s the most joyful, collaborative and beautiful 7-10 minutes I think I’ve ever seen.
I thoroughly enjoyed this version. My soul is now happy 😊

Brilliant!! And the dancing, awesome! Thanks!

Captivating genius sums up Peter Gabriel. Insightful reaction.

Love Yousou'NDour too. I have some of his stuff and used to belly dance to it 💙🎶✊
One of the great live performances, for sure.
If you're not familiar, try listening to Solsbury Hill-a great song.

Guess that reggeathing fits.
The organ after the first refrain rocks quite steady. 🤔😀
Peter Gabiel is full of captivated videos like this. Keep going.
This brings back great memories! Those were the days. CHEERS
Peter used African beats for his World Music sound. He wrote this about Rosanna Arquette. Toto wrote Rosanna about her. Quite the muse!
It was called World Music. It was a thing then. The Whole Secret Garden concert is accesible online. The female singer is Paula Cole.
Yes, that was absolutely captivating! And they were all dancing all the time! 🙂 I love Peter Gabriel, he's fantastic but, wow, that girl has a voice that blew me away!

Thanks for such a thoughtful reaction, Hap! You really can't go wrong with Peter Gabriel. 💕
All this concert is a must, and this song is the perfect one to end that concert. Regards from Portugal 🇵🇹
That whole concert is absolutely amazing! You should react to more from it...
Great vibe ❤

One word: fantastic!!!!!!!!!
It’s spiritual and universal as well as diverse.

The whole US album just tears at my heart in so many ways.

This is such a feel good song that transcends all genres of music.
Peter Gabriel is a gift to our mortal world. He did the soundtrack to the movie Last Temptation of Christ that will change your world.
