ThePeople'sPanzer so when you join you should go work somewhere you don’t like? They have an option to actually choose so why would they not use the opportunity to be where they want to go
The Royal Canadian Navy has 12 frigates which is still low for our navy to copy this tradition. Also the majority of those frigates were commissioned almost 40 years ago lol(so old). What we do have is quality training from our high quality military education and facilities and also experiences from joint exercises, drills and patrols with our British and American allies. I am applying soon for the Canadian Forces that's why I do many research on our military
The Canadian Forces are generally known for having fewer troops, more outdated equipment, and less equipment overall, but for being very well trained, very skilled, and very ingenious with what they do have in spite of it. Kind of like Australia. That kind of reputation has carried through from World War I, through World War II, Korea, Yugoslavia and Afghanistan. Canadian Units have received a great many commendations from foreign allies for their excellent service, even if they also have a reputation for vehicles that spend more time in the shop being repaired than they do actually being used because they're so old.
The last pick is a dinky little boat called the USS Kim Kardashian. The crew members don’t speak English and the Captain sleeps 23 hours a day. “Good luck young Officer Smith, your bad grades earned you the USS Kim Kardashian!”
USS Kim Kar went down with a lot of Sea men. There were too many leaky holes for the crew to plug, and the navigation was a nightmare with the daughter called North West.
It's always interesting what ships are picked, because most of the cadets have a long term game plan. If their interest is in aviation they might pick a carrier, if they are interested in logistics, a landing support ship, if it's missile tech, or electronics they will pick a missile destroyer. Either way, it's a great reward for hard work!
Actually, they’re midshipmen not cadets, and the only ones that do this ship selection are those becoming Surface Warfare Officers. In addition to surface warfare, midshipmen can go into aviation, logistics, submarines, USMC ground, USMC aviation, civil engineering, cyber operations, medical, law, and a few other branches. This means that the game plan that you described doesn’t exist here
This is actually a very good way for the navy to assign officers since officers will usually pick something they are good at so each ship gets the kind of people they need. Of course it means that ships with a reputation for being a place nobody wants to be don't fare as well.
@@tomthx5804 you fucking idiot we have to deal with shitty living conditions and and being told what to do every second of every day for your entire contract it's a privilege to pick your orders these ensign's deserve the celebration this there one night as junior officer's

They’re not surface warfare officers until they qualify once aboard ship. Its must be nice to be able to choose your own ship. Enlisted personnel fill out what we call a dream sheet. You choose 3 overseas duty stations 3 conus (continental United States) shore duty stations.and 3 sea duty. You get put where the needs of the Navy are which usually aren’t any of your choices. In 20 years i didn’t get a single duty station i chose until my last one. Thats only because it was my twilight tour. (last duty station before retirement)
I’m exited for you. May your journeys be safe and may your service be fulfilling. Much love and respect for your choice to live a life of service. Thank you.
Why was the first choice for the USS Carney? Do officers like to serve on smaller ships rather than on larger carriers? I guess for a first deployment, you get more attention and chance to shine since there are less people?
As former Navy myself, I served 3.5 years on board an Perry class FFG and wouldn't have traded it for the world. When you serve on smaller ships, it forces you to learn more aspects of ship board life and gives you a chance to be a more well rounded officer or enlisted person.
Smaller ships means a smaller number of officers - and many more opportunities to distinguish oneself in the line of duty as well as have more responsibilities sooner in one's career, so they're not playing catch-up later. If you watched, you noticed very few people were going for the carriers right off the bat.
"If you watched, you noticed very few people were going for the carriers right off the bat." Yeah, that's what surprised me ... I thought would people want to serve on a flag ship, but I can see why they would get lost among the 2,500 to 3,000 sailors on a carrier.
I'm sure the home port of the ship is part of the equation. The Carney's home port is Rota, Spain. Most young officers would love an opportunity to be assigned there.
This is an absolutely fascinating step in a Naval Academy graduate's early life when embarking on the start of His/Her career......what is pointed out in the beginning is that these young Men and Women had opted for Surface Ship duty ergo the choices of Destroyer duty (that choice of ship seemed VERY popular!) but Academy Graduates have also had Other Choices such as the Marine Corps for example or Submarines or Naval Air......I wonder where those Graduates were on that night of high excitement and revelry(???)......

Serve well serve long serve with honor. Congrats Annapolis class of 2018.
My recruiter said we get to do the same thing! Can’t wait to chose my job and we’re I’ll deploy to!
Can someone tell me why some of the ship names are in Red or Green? In some of the cases I could see in the video the same ship had the different colours, but I couldn't see a reasoning for it, any help would be appreciated.
Grim Kupid not to sure
Grim Kupid not sure, but could signify what kind of ship you it is. I.E destroyer, carrier, etc.
Cristian Garcia Wasp and Carney were the same color, but Wasp is a carrier and Carney is a destroyer.
at 1:40, on the left side of the board there is what looks to be a legend.
can't read the top one over USS Normandy CG-60 (a ship one of my A-school buddies was stationed on, and one of my COs commanded after he left USS Hawes FFG-53)
pause the video at 1:17 and look to the right it tells you what each card is. Conventional nuclear, SWO blue chip, SWO EDO option, or SWO ODC option. not sure what any of that means but there you go.
Well, this explains why we've seen an increase in US naval accidents, declining discipline.
No mentality handicapped freak like you should be commenting
Celebrating your graduation consider indiscipline, your world must be really harsh place
Great to watch. West Point does something similar with postings and branch. The highest ranked cadets get first pick.
Strolls up there to ACDC like an RDJ entrance. That's how I would want to pick a ship.
