I really do believe that Professor Oak was meant to be the champion. I do think there was some dialogue somewhere that states he used to be a champion or something, but I don't recall. I think it's cool how in Sun and Moon Professor Kukui ends up being the champion, since it seems like that was something Game Freak has had in mind for a while. I do hope that we get canon battle with Professor Oak someday.

Twintendo, although it's purely speculation (and I just have a fascination with this pokemon) the God Stone you mentioned that was buried in Black and White 2 might be related to the supposed dragon that was a mix of Kyurem, Reshiram, and Zekrom. The Light and Dark Stone were the two that were related to Reshiram and Zekrom, and although Kyurem never had a stone (to my knowledge), it might not be too far off to say a God Stone could have been an item related to the fusion of the three that was depicted in Unovan lore.
