Apple's China problem: how its ticket to success has become a liability

- Apple can thank China for much of its success. In the early days, as Apple was on the brink of bankruptcy, it pivoted its manufacturing to China, capitalizing on a massive low-wage workforce, billions in government stimulus to build out enormous factories, and the loyalty of a rapidly growing middle class. But now, what was once a key to its success has increasingly become a liability. In just the past few weeks, it's seen a Chinese tax investigation into its biggest manufacturer Foxconn, accusations of censorship around Jon Stewart's canceled show, and has lost its market share dominance to competitor Huawei. This week on Tech Check, we dive into Apple's China problem, and why it's not going anywhere. For access to live and exclusive video from CNBC subscribe to CNBC PRO: cnb.cx/2NGeIvi

can you buy Huawei in the US ?
No, banned
Tesla & Apple have been very successful in making & selling their Cars & Phones in China .
They will face more and more competition from local producers inside China .
Toyota is losing the China market rapidly since they are far behind in supplying the next generation of Cars .
Tesla & Apple will lose if they are not leading the trend ( similar to Nokia in the past ) !
Actually Tesla is the same no Tesla without China
Apple is a really ethically challenged company. In addition to all this, their “innovative” tax avoidance measures especially in Europe are really problematic. They need to do their part to support a healthy society instead of just focusing narrowly on profits.
You forgot to mention their corrupt anti self repair, privacy and censorship policies. Apple is two face corrupt technology company.
😂😂😂😂
You wanted capitalism but you complain when it's being excercised!
China government manipulates the corporation. This isn't capitalism.@@fdisciple7634
🇺🇸 bigger problem is APPLE, INTEL, QUALCOMM, CISCO, META, TWITTER X, MSFT, GOOGLE, AMAZON... ALL HAVE BACK DOORS TO USA spy agencies! Plus, secretly own by the same agency. And their tax avoidance!
Thanks to Sanctions... China will develop its own superior tech and than dump it to drive out Intel, nvdia, micro, tsmc, etc!
Unless you insist on getting into their domestic politics, China is actually very, very predictable and business friendly compared to India. And an order of magnitude more productive and precise with manufacturing.
Yes, after China carried out economic reforms in 1979, it deemphasized politics and focused only on economics. In contrast, the United States is now increasingly obsessed with political correctness.
Why Apple products are restricted in China. 1. Around 2016, an official from the National Security Bureau of Jiangsu Province in China used an iPhone to write a diary and saved it on iCloud. The FBI asked Apple to provide the iCloud passwords of Chinese officials, and Apple handed over the user passwords to the FBI. 2. Sometime this year, the commander of the Chinese Navy was eavesdropped by the United States by exploiting the vulnerability of the iwatch because he was wearing an iwatch. 3. Because Chinese prosecutors asked corrupt Chinese officials under scrutiny to provide the power-on passwords of the iPhones they used, the officials refused to provide them. Therefore, China prohibits officials from using the iPhone series, while civilians are not restricted.
"China is actually very, very predictable and business friendly compared to India" LOL. No. India is no picnic, but discounting CCP meddling is laughable.
@@moozillamoo2109 as if you know anything about China or India. Too funny
@@moozillamoo2109 The British are good at using financial leverage and "political leverage." When the British colonists ruled India, they also used various political methods to divide India instead of uniting it. Democracy is good. But rushing democracy before unity is not a good idea. The main function of democracy is to curb corruption, but the democratic Indian government is very corrupt, which shows that Indian democracy is not successful.
People waking up to these issues is YEARS overdue!
Great investigative journalism and great reporting.
Seems like the anchor is pretty happy about the "problem" Apple encountered in China, cheers!
what makes you think so?
Yep, the problem(s) that many Americans were happy to ignore for so long.
The working class of Americans would be happy if jobs were to be returned to America. The corporates are the one suffering from inflation and increasing wage while competing lower cost from other countries.
Apple switching manufacturing in China from Taiwanese owned Foxconn, to Chinese owned Luxshare Inc.
So Taiwan middleman was getting a big cut from Chinese Labor.
Sounds kind of unfair.
China no longer needs Foxconn; and if the CCP doesn't want it, Apple doesn't need it either. simple as that..
Blame Trump for attack Huawei
Folks… You guys banned. Huawei.
then how about Huawei in USA ? compare with Apple in China
So, will we next find out that our iPhones were actually NOT as secure as we once thought?
No apple without China
A liability to who? Every country has a right to thrive.
First mistake was thinking china even has that right for a company within their borders. As if they were gonna play fare without the government interfering?
Apple. A fake woke company.
