    This video walks through the procedure of Disassembling and reassembling the throttle body to replace the plastic throttle cable attachment used for cruise control functions.

    Thanks for the Video. I did the same repair last week. I noticed one important thing while I had it apart. I noticed some chaffing on the casting where the throttle rotates. You can see it inside of the springs. I think that this actually caused the plastic part to break. I squirted a little silicon grease before re-assembling. Also, I think that the Dorman part number is 977-100 instead of 997-100.

    Excellent demonstration. I don’t know why Honda would make an important, friction based part out of plastic that will fail from heat produced by the engine and time. One thought is that, while I try to buy salvage parts when possible, I’d be reluctant to buy a used throttle body for the plastic part provided because it obviously has service in the part and seems subject to failure at some point. But, you could get lucky. As you said, the Dorman kit is available which seems like a reasonable solution given the simple steps required by your video. Great job!

      I agree with you on buying the new replacement parts rather than a junkyard part. The reason I used the junkyard part was because before I figured out how to do the repair, I was just going to replace the complete throttle body with the junkyard one to fix it. It actually turned out that the throttle position sensor on the junkyard throttle body didn’t work, so I went through disassembling the junkyard throttle to see if I could transfer the parts over. And the result is this video.

    Thanks Quintyn!!! I've had a 2003 Accord with the same broken cruise control attachment for a long while. I haven't been driving this car for over 3 years, (drive a company leased car now) but have been saving this car for my son to drive when he turns 16 shortly. So glad Dorman made the repair kit, and delighted you made a video showing how to complete the repair. Gotta love RUclips!

      I’m so glad this helped you give a great vehicle to your son to drive. The whole reason I fixed it was because I changed to a job without company cars and needed cruise control again. Couldn’t find instructions so I made my own.

      @@donniev8181 the trick to getting the cable back in is to either do that step before re-installing it on the intake or push the throttle by hand to get it into a position where you can slid the end back into the hole and route it through the channel on the new plastic throttle body cam you just installed.

    • @donniev8181

      @@quintynschiff4237yeah im just wondering if this can be done without removing the throttle body. Also you can loosen the throttle cable by just loosening the top nut which frees up the cable. As long as you do not touch the bottom adjustment nut on the throttle cable it will not affect anything. Im almost tempted to just replace everything while the throttle body is still on the car. Either way, your video is by far the best step by step video on youtube. Its a bit ridiculous how Honda "recommends" against removing this linkage. Weird but on the coupe accord, this piece is metal, I've been told anyways. In your opinion do you think it can be done without removing the throttle body?

    Thanks for the video. I now need to take a look at my car and see if that is the problem. 2 comments about the video. It would have been nice if you showed the defective part next to the good part for comparison, and as long as you had another throttle body, why didn't you just swap throttle bodies? You mentioned purchasing one, but then said you had it hanging around. If it was just to make the video, that's a good answer. Thanks for the info on the the dorman kit. If I need to replace the cable attachment, this is the way I'll go. Thanks.

      Good suggestion to show both next to each other, didn't cross my mind at the time. Also, I had bought the junkyard throttle body to try and do a direct swap, but when I put it on it's position sensor would cause a fault after driving once or twice. I figured out this fix by taking apart the junkyard part first and realizing it was actually really easy to swap just the pieces I needed.

    Do you know if the DX models have the same throttle body even though they don't have cruise control?

    • @quintynschiff4237
      @quintynschiff4237  2 года назад +1

      You would need to look at the throttle body and see if has the inner plastic ring for the cruise control cable. Honda may have kept all the TBs the same to not have separate parts even though there would be no cable connected to that bracket if you do not have cruise control. As far as adding cruise control, you would need to add the cables and electronics to make it all work and I'm not sure that possible. A little research on google said that there are aftermarket kits available for this though.

    • @al-du6lb
      @al-du6lb 2 года назад +1

      @@quintynschiff4237 Thanks. I just checked and it looks like it does NOT have the plastic piece. I'm sure it is possible using oem parts, but may be more trouble than it's worth. I'll look into aftermarket kits.

    Any advice for how to place the accelerator cables back onto the throttle body?

    • @quintynschiff4237
      @quintynschiff4237  2 года назад +1

      I think I just used a pair of pliers to help pull them so I could put them back in the slot. Either that or hold the throttle plate open and feed the cables back in, then release it slowly and make sure there isn’t any binding. Good idea to press the accelerator a few times after install to make sure it all feels right and cables are routed right.

      It would be pretty tight to try and do it in the car, difficult to get tools in too. It’s pretty easy to just take the throttle body off though. Just make sure to pinch the coolant hoses when you take it apart so it doesn’t leak coolant everywhere.

      The CR-V had different throttle body’s dependent on the engine. If it’s a K24 engine code this should be right. But I’m not exactly sure all the different model changes.
