- In this video I go over the Soviet made rangefinder Fed-5s, explain what features it has and how to use it.
Important!
Do not change the shutter speed before advancing the film. Also, do not move directly between the shutter speeds 1 and 30, to change between those speeds you have to go around the other direction. Not following these two points can cause damage to the shutter mechanism, so be careful!

Yes. I remember cameras like this. Great that you collect and use them.
yeah, it is a fun hobby!
Good video. This is how you do a quick, clear overview.
Thanks! Great to hear that it is of some use!
i thrifted a fed-5 and i am desperate to figure out how it works this video is somewhat of a godsent
you are welcome! I'm happy the video was useful!
Did you ever figure out the exposure calculator? I have a FED5 and can't for the life of me get it to make sense
this will help me alot when my fed 5 arrives ... thanks ! =:3
You are welcome!
I can not put speeds longer than 1/30sec.on mine.....is there a special manipulation for it?
The slow speeds are in a different component from the fast ones. Basically default speed (1/30) + a timer. So something in this component is probably malfunctioning. Unfortunately I don't know any quick fix.
hi, may i ask if the light meter on this is accurate? mine has one but i dont trust it lol
Hi! It depends on how old the camera is and how it has been stored. The only way to be sure is to compare it with an external light meter/light meter app.
Nice👌
too bad about the shutter curtain.
Yeah, I was so disappointed when I opened the camera and it fell out!
The FED5C was made in the 1990s not 70s
According to Jean Loup Princelles book they were made from 1977-c1990. There is a rare Fed-6 which was made later.
@@mikaelrphoto I found a lot of mistakes in his book. One thing is for sure, the 5C was in production when all camera production ceased. There were a few prototypes of the FED-6 made. It had a sensor that swung down in front of the film plain manually. About 10 years ago one of the prototypes sold for US$2,500. Also incomplete 6's have also showed up on on eBay.
