It should bother you for $100k+ like you said that you expect a level of quality at that price. I so agree... spend $100K and have this... it’s foolish... supporting Tesla for this is foolish... I am actually for electric cars, but this quality just pisses me off... but reality is Tesla making a hype and making money on the fools!
There’s just no excuse for these issues anymore. Tesla has had nearly ten years since the Model S launched to get the build quality under control. I fear that once other luxury brands really ramp up their electric offerings, Tesla will be at a disadvantage. Hope they can get things under control.
I agree. Took them forever to get semi-decent with the model 3 issues. I can’t imagine how long things will get semi decent with the refreshed model s. With the price tag we deserve better :(
I agree. This is exactly why I wanted to make a video even though I knew I would get a lot of dislikes (which I could careless since I'm not a real RUclipsr haha, just doing this for tun). Tesla needs to know and needs to improve so they can also be ahead (or at least on par) with their competitors once they all caught up.
Jesus Christ man those defects would drive me nuts especially for 100K+ I have just considered trading it in since there are still limited in availability.
Omg. Almost 10 years of producing the Model S and still the same wrinkly door-seals, and paint issues. I looked at the Model Y and Model 3 cars in the Miami design district showroom recently, and they all had very visible paint defects, and panel misalignment issues. On a red Model Y there was even black dust under the clear coat. I love Tesla for what they did for the electrification of personal transport, but ultimately these unresolved problems are not acceptable, and will drive customers away.
Looks like Tesla treats its customers like some dirt under the nails. “Nah, those peasants got enough, why use a pre-formed door seals? We’ll keep using cheap straight ones”. I’ve bought a Challenger Scat Pack and it had ZERO issues from the factory. It’s almost twice as cheap, and is also manufactured for a decade now.
These aren't minor issues, these are major quality control issues, and especially for this price it is inexcusable. Definitely not buying a Tesla when we all have to drive EVs.
Yeah, these are not small issues. I suggest you return the car and ask for a new one (that you should have gotten the first time). The first issue (tear on the dash) is when they installed the A-pillar cover; the speaker panel tore it when they pressed it in.
I find it fascinating that everyone makes excuses 'hey it's Tesla'. NO! They've been building this car for 10 years, they should have this shit worked out by now. After 7 Tesla's we got sick of the all squeaks, rattles, and having to constantly take our cars in to have them essentially rebuilt because they rolled off the assembly line in parts and pieces. Our 2020 Model S and X had WORSE build quality than the 2018's we replaced them with - not sure how that happens - you'd think they'd have worked out the kinks. Sadly, people who are new to EV's have been told they need a million miles of range and buy Tesla's because they think they're taking a road trip every other day. Oh and 0-60 times, I guess everyone takes their car to the drag strip daily so that gives them a free pass to keep building crap cars. We've moved on to Porsche's - solid as tanks. They only thing we miss about a Tesla is that their UI is the best, period.
I think they have the tech down, and reallllly need to focus on build quality. I assume you switched to a Taycan? How is it? I did like how it drive, a lot, when I test drove it, but didn't like the tech and range.
Well done! Made the right choice, glad to see that there are people snapping out of the Tesla hype. Sorry to hear you had to go through a whopping number of 7 Teslas though...

My Mazda Tribute has had fewer defects in its 17 year life than a brand new tesla. But buyers who accept such an inferior product enable tesla to continue accordingly.

It’s buyers like you who are clicking the “accept delivery” button on the Tesla app that poor QC continues year after year at Fremont. You have every right to reject delivery!!! Car buyers in other parts of the world would never accept a car like this and Tesla knows it. It’s only American buyers who are continuing to accept Fremont cars with poor QC. Buyers in other parts of the world have higher expectations and standards. I rejected 2 early 2021 Model Y VIN’s because of QC issues during inspection. The 3rd VIN was near perfect so I finally accepted delivery. Stand your ground and send Tesla a message!!!
I had a 2020 Model S Performance. I really wanted to love the car but couldn't get over the build quality issues given how much I paid for the car. I ended up selling it after owning it for less than a year. I wish you luck getting your issues resolved. It truly is an engineering marvel.
About 20% of teslas are dumped by their owners in a relatively short time. Between the hassle of charging them and the quality issues, the "fun" factor or "richer than you" factor doesn't hold up.
I wouldn’t be able to stand any kind of rattling noises or whistling, no way, that drives me crazy. Minor build quality things, the cosmetic things, they don’t bother me too much, but still I don’t think it’s good. The most important thing is the drivetrain, the reliability, and the performance and driving experience, and Tesla is killing it on that. There will Always be quality control problems in the Fremont plant in California because California and are arrogant and stupid, but they think they are the best, kind of like spoiled children, they think they are doing a good job, but they can’t even measure up to what people produce in Third World countries.
@@steveperreira5850 I wouldn't agree that Tesla is "killing it" when it comes to performance and driving experience. Electric cars go very fast in straight lines but they're very heavy. One adds to the driving experience, the other detracts from it. Also, phantom braking makes me never want to use Autopilot - I'd rather just have a radar-based adaptive cruise control.
I am absolutely amazed at the willingness of people to put up with crappy quality in this car. Until they get serious, no tesla for me, and I would get a long range S

Thank you for your video. I just bought a $45,000 BMW X3 and I couldn’t find a single flaw. We all want Tesla to aspire to that kind of build quality. They improved the model 3 dramatically after many videos like this surfaced and Tesla improved maybe because of shame or embarrassment. If they can make such a high tech vehicle handling the small things shouldn’t be such a big deal.
Same. I just bought a 2022 X3 and it’s practically flawless. I can’t believe how bad the QC is for Tesla and that people are willing to live with it. Had I found even ONE of these flaws in my new BMW I would have returned it.

None of those defects are minor. Especially on a “luxury” vehicle. None of those would get through QC at any European carmaker. If they did you can guarantee that they would be replaced or repaired immediately.
A $16k Toyota Corolla has far better build quality than this. I'll say it again, Tesla is not a car company, it's a tech company. They should just supply really car companies with the motors and batteries.
I have a 2013 Audi A4 and the perceived quality is miles away from what I see on this model S (doesn't shows any of those problems). I even had in the past a Peugeot 307 and let me tell you that it didn't had those type of defects 😲
I'd return it for complete replacement. Not a chance I would pay $100k for a vehicle with so many defects, but then again that's one of the reasons I decided to hold off on mine until they get the early issues resolved.
@@InternetDude Likely never but usually they iron out the big issues in the first 6 months or so. was also waiting on details about the tax credit to decide if only the base model qualifies. sounds like none of them will ultimately so might as well click on all the options once deliveries are somewhat predictable and all the big quality complaints are behind us.
Haha don't, if anything, you can always refuse delivery. It really is an amazing car, nothing else comes close to it. I'm sure their production will improve over time.
If I would have any of that on a new BMW, Audi or Mercedes, I would send the car right back to them and they would be embarrassed that it slipped through their quality control.
That is very bad build quality and it is not acceptable even for economy car standards. I know that you say that the issues seem minor to you but thats only the issue that you can see. The things that worries me is what has been overlooked for the things that you cannot see which can be very problematic or dangerous if not addressed. I would buy a tesla if they have a good and consistent (QC), as of now though, not a chance.
This is truly disappointing - your car has more issues than my 2014 Model S had. I have a 2021 Model S on order, and I was hoping that their fit and finish has improved, but it seems that it has not.
Or typical American build quality as far as cars goes. The problem is in USA they will excuse it because its american company while in places like Europe people don't care how long you exist or what from they only care about if the quality meets the price(both material and build). So when you have $100k car that has worse build quality thank sub $10k car then you have way serious problems than you think. And this is why tesla will fail in the long run asking luxury price for build quality worse than total budget car.
Tescrap. Mercedes EQS is coming right now with considerably better interior, comfort and much more range. 780 km vs Tesla's 600ish km. Good riddance for the crap
I totally agree this. Instead of being fan of a brand, be fan of quality and reliability. My 20 years old car's current quality is better than this even after so many miles. I will convert powertrain to EV once engine decides to die maybe 20-30years later.
your video is literally the reason why i didnt order anymore teslas after my first two. Thats why a taycan is on the way, and probably eqe in the future
Enjoy the high price, short range, and being blown away by cheaper Teslas during your ownership of the Taycan. Time has proven for decades now, there are uncountable fools that will continue to buy overpriced German cars. Congratulations Johnny!
i did the same thing (almost). Bought an e-tron GT instead of a Model S for the same reasons. All these kiddies who want Teslas only care about the on-paper 0-60 time when in reality they will seldom use that. They don't enjoy driving. They don't enjoy cornering. They just want to walk around telling people about their 0-60 times to make themselves feel better.
@@powerstroke6217 you literally wrote what i wanted to but couldnt be bothered enough to. plenty of internet warriors can only read specs and numbers. good choice on the etron gt, that waistline and haunch is jaw dropping.
This is really a "top down" issue. Elon focuses on the technology and delivery numbers at the expense of quality control. Their Fremont plant relies on a much higher percentage of human assembly than many other legacy manufacturers but they are cranking out cars in numbers that match robot-centric plants. With the focus on delivering as many cars as possible out the door, speed is more important to Tesla than quality control. The only way to increase quality control would be to either slow down production or to move to more automation. With the huge number of orders constantly pouring in and a backlog of 4+ months of production, I don't see Tesla ever prioritizing quality. They've been mass producing cars for almost 5 years now and QC is still not a priority. Like others of said, you are getting a $20k American car with $30+k of technology in it. With that said, I have a Model 3 being delivered next week with a Model Y on order (Delivery 1/2022) so that shows where my priorities are (tech over all.)
In fact, I also did not like the concept of hyperscreen, I personally would prefer the basic version as in the S class. But everything else is top notch.
Dude.. PLEASE tell us you're going back to the dealer with EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE DEFECTS!!!!!!!!!! You just spent almost $100,000 for it... And it's built like a 1978 Ford Pinto!!! Are you not completely embarrassed?????? Dude... YOU GOT TAKEN!!!!!!

I'm sure everybody noticed how this owner has all these issues with his 100K tesla but everything he says is " Pretty Minor?" really? on a 130K car?? when my 12-year-old Hyundai does not rattle or have weird issues like this brand spanking new tesla i agree with @ericShaper stop making excuses for a car company that has been making cars for over a decade.
Haha, yea, I somewhat agree with what you said. To me, if the car had some type of mechanical issues or anything that would affect how it drives or operates, then it would be totally unacceptable. These issues are annoying, but not major, IMO, most of them are just fit and finish.
@@MrExitStrategy it's one thing to be a superfan of a car or a car company but if you are paying your hard earn money for a product specially something like your new model S plaid which is 130k easy I would not put it with any of it. But Good luck and hopefully Tesla does the right thing and fixes everything that's wong and if they don't come back with an update video and put them on blast lol.
What a piece of junk!!! Tesla owners are brainwashed into thinking all those quality control issues are normal or not a big deal. There is no way I would ever buy a Tesla. Overpriced, terrible quality control, tech that doesn't work (autonomous driving), and crap service. I will stick to my luxury SUV that takes 3 min to fill at any street corner, no panel gaps, perfect paint, no squeaks, great tech, and I can bring it anywhere for service.
I absolutely agree with these points. Given the dislikes, I think people get blinded by being a fan. The build quality is like a 30k car. So you're paying for the technology and speed, packaged in cheap materials. 6 months in and Tesla customer service is less and less responsive about tons of rattling, door handle getting stuck, and door window frame getting scratches from simply opening the door. It's ridiculous for a 100k car.
I feel sorry for the kids which buy this and can be persuaded that this is "normal". I would really give sound advice and tell them to go rent a proper Lexus or Mercedes at $100k mark, for a few days. Just to get a feeling what a 100k car should look and feel like. This is a level of trim / finish of a $15k-20k car, tops and I would still claim faults.
Price is largely irrelevant. I understand the price tag but its an American built car and no offence but Americans can't build high quality cars. Fords, chevys, chrysler, they're all the same. If that stuff is important to you buy an Audi or other German made car.
Tesla is not the only car company that makes EV cars, There will be other car companies will do a better job in quality and refinement a lot cheaper than Tesla as they have more expertise in making quality cars for the last 30 to 50 Years. So wait for it Tesla can be a market leader on batteries but it will change soon, people moving from lithium to aluminium batteries.
🤣 good luck with this cheap junk! $100K for it is a joke... quality is just a slap in the face, service sucks, if you have one around.. for this kind of money I went and got a 2021 Porsche so far no complaints...

I love my Tesla but ... I'm not sure why all tesla owners preface their criticism of Tesla with this. Is it in anticipation of tesla fanboys coming to the company's defense?
I don’t see how they can be afraid of Tesla fan boys. Do you think we have a militia that is going to come out and get them for criticizing build quality? I definitely am a fan boy. But I really appreciate seeing legitimate criticism like what is given here. There are two things going on here. These cars are excellent performing vehicles, however, they are built in California where the worst workers in the world live. This is a fact of life. Biggest mistake that Elon made was putting his factory in California. I’m sure he would do it differently if he had to do it all over again. I am a native Californian and the people here are stupid and not skilled compared to workers elsewhere. I’ve been around the world as an engineer, I know what I’m talking about. I hope to buy a Tesla someday, I don’t want any other brand, but I will not buy one that is made in California, maybe Texas, maybe China, maybe elsewhere, but certainly not in California.
I know someone that’s had a black screen issue the car will still drive but no blinker control or heater it’s happened 3 times, he’s seen in some forums this appears to be an issue others see seeing too. Hopefully a software fix is in the works…. When turning tight you can hear the suspension/turning apparatus squeak loudly.
Any of these things you found would have been fixed at any other car maker before delivery. Not even budget mini cars have these kind of issues in Europe. Tesla is just not good enough, and this is 100k... just buy an EQS guys...
Yep, these should have been caught/fixed prior to delivery, no doubt. I know I'm the minority here, but I just can't get myself to like the design on the EQS especially the interior. Though, I'm sure the quality/fit/finish on the EQS will be top notch
What a hell of noises, it is incredibly annoying, you would expect silence from an electric car of 100.000 bucks. Sorry for Tesla, they pack the greater software without taking care to important details.
I have the exact same rattling coming from the drivers rear side that you showed. Have you/they figured out a solution for it? It’s very annoying and on all the time! Thanks!
This is simply the result of a company perceiving their market as lowly fanboys instead of real customers. How can you love a 100k car with this set of issues??
@BTICronox I live in Europe and it's the place for small hatchbacks, what we call city car class. In 2007, I bought a Toyota Aygo (new) for around 13k € and none of this issues whatsoever. After selling it a few years back, I came across it in a supermarket park lot and the paint job is still perfect. Absolutely no excuse for a top of the line, expensive car built and with specs that are cutting edge to have this combination of problems.
Wow that is disgraceful. I was going to order a Model S but now I'm probably going to hold onto my current car and wait for his to shake out. I would not be happy listening to rattles and dealing with trim pieces falling off. I would not expect that from a bottom of the line Fiat.
I'm sure the build quality will improve by the time your car is delivered, probably early next year. if you were to place the order now. You at least have to test drive it and feel it in person, it really is a solid car (minus those annoying fit/finish issues).
@@MrExitStrategy Well I'm going to wait a few months to see how this improves and what happens to your situation. I would not be happy with rattles and squeaks. If a car does that when it's brand new how's it going to feel and sound when it's got 3 years on it? After driving in snow and rain etc? Please give us an update on your situation when available. I am interested in going electric but could buy a Subaru Outback and have a lifetime of gas paid for and drive the car half a million miles without a problem for the price of a Tesla S so I want it to be better than just fast.
@@MrExitStrategy But let me ask you something. Tesla has been building the Model S for 10 years. Yes they made some refresh changes but should that drop the build quality so precipitously? What makes you think they'll clean this up now if they've had the car in production a decade already. Maybe they just toss these things together to get them out the door knowing that they have a waiting list for the cars regardless?
These issues that you've shown are completely unacceptable by Tesla. Tesla needs to up their QC, especially for the higher-end cars. I'm assuming all these issues are occurring because Tesla is trying to get these cars out as fast as they can, but I feel like their QC dept is either half-assing their process and procedures or they're just bypassing final QC altogether. I think Tesla needs to restructure or reanalyze their QC dept to ensure these issues don't occur.
Shanghai has two QC checks at the end of the assembly. It looks as though Fremont doesn’t have any. The problem is that buyers continue to accept delivery when the vehicles have ongoing fit finish/quality issues during the delivery inspection.

Still the best car I've ever had, but it's both sad and embarrassing that 2 years later and the company is still failing to master the basics. I'm not sure Tesla cares either.
No, buying a Tesla is the embarasssing thing.

It should bother you for $100k+ like you said that you expect a level of quality at that price. Tesla will continuously overlook these "little issues" until it does bother you enough to move on to something else.
I so agree... spend $100K and have this... it’s foolish... supporting Tesla for this is foolish... I am actually for electric cars, but this quality just pisses me off... but reality is Tesla making a hype and making money on the fools!

"If I were to order again I would do it even with these issues" - that sums it all up. And why Tesla does not have to care about quality.
With the price tag we deserve better :(
@Davis as long as Tesla has their supercharger network and no one else does, they will always have the advantage, in my opinion.
People like this guy keep buying so they don’t really need to improve.
No need to fear. We should rejoice instead because once competition pick up, Tesla will have to address these issue seriously
Jesus Christ man those defects would drive me nuts especially for 100K+
I have just considered trading it in since there are still limited in availability.
Oh, you did not noticed that half of the steering wheel is missing.
I think you're right on how that tear happened
The issue is, when he does that he can get car thats even worse ... so its kinda "lets hope for the best"

I’ve owned two S’s I finally gave up due to endless repairs. Not worth it, fun though.

@BTICronox 100k brother! 100k!
The cognitive dissonance is strong here. If Tesla has no QA for what's in plain sight you should be concerned about what you cannot see.
