Stephen Johnson thank you so much man, it means a lot to me! Glad you appreciate the attention to detail, took some time to dial in the tone for the lead and rhythm guitar, very happy with how it turned out.
Holy fuck man this cover almost made me shit my fucking pants with how good it was. Not only is your sound on point but the way you play is so clean; you make it look effortless.
Watched about 10 of these videos and you’re the only one who’s been able to play this with perfect timing. Video isn’t as flashy but you’re a much better player than most who have tried. You deserve more upvotes.
thanks man I really appreciate it! I made this video back with my older set-up from last year, of which the Telecaster is the only remaining part, with different pick-ups. I mainly got the tone from experimenting with EQ settings while listening to the song a million times haha. I was running my Tele in the middle pick-up position into a Boss ME-80 multi effects unit, into an MXR 10-band EQ, and then into my Fender Pro Junior tube amp ( was insanely loud haha). I specifically remember using the Blues overdrive setting on the ME-80, it's basically a Boss Blues Driver pedal, gave me a nice warm overdrive and sustain. I think I also had my pre-amp settings pretty clean, if not totally flat. I don't think it's perfect, but I'm pretty happy with how it ended up sounding. But mainly, listening to and playing along with the song over and over again made the biggest difference. The tone was the final part I worked on, once I was satisfied with my playing. Hope this answers at least some of your question!
Thanks so much! So my setup for the lead tone was as follows: Tele with humbucker neck and single coil bridge pickups (middle position) -> Boss ME-80 Multi-Effects Pedal (some EQ, compression, bit of reverb, and the Blues preset for overdrive, which gave a nice saturation) -> MXR Ten-Band EQ Pedal (sparkly clean preset) -> Fender Pro Junior iii (this amp was HOT and provided its own gain even with the volume under 2!) Basically did a 6 4 6 for the EQ settings on the ME-80, brightened up the tone a bit but kept the sustain intact. In the end, I really only did a small bit of tone shaping on the MXR and the ME-80, I kinda already had close to the tone I wanted with my default set-up.
This is such a perfect cover... Do you have any tips on how to recreate this sound? :) I'm a beginner and this really clear melodic tone is probably my favorite!
thank you! My signal chain was as follows: Fender Tele (middle pick-up position) -> Boss ME-80 multi-effects unit -> MXR 10-band EQ -> Fender Pro Junior amp. My Pre-amp settings were totally flat/clean, I had the compressor on for sustain, the "Blues" overdrive setting which models the Blues Driver pedal and gives a nice warm amount of drive without too much gain. I swapped out the pick-ups that came with the guitar for some higher output replacements, and the amp settings were flat/clean. Hope this answers some of your question!
"The train for Mystic Ruins will be departing soon."
