Thank you Robbie for showing us your early morning routine. My cat Ally wakes me up and we go out into the garden and she sits on my knee while I have my coffee. Best time of the day admiring my garden and working out my projects for the day whilst sharing cuddles with my cat.

My mom once went out in the morning to her garden just like you. Cup of coffee in hand, also no make up. It was 7 am, right before getting ready to work... What she didn't realise was that her new kitten was learning how to open the front door and managed to lock it shut from the inside in the process 🤣 she had no phone with her and there was no one at home to open the door 🤣🤣 sorry for the off topic sharing but your relaxed morning stroll in the garden reminded me so much of my mum ❤️

Lovely video as always. Due to my space, I had to get raised beds (flooding in my area and mud).
However, since my totes did so well last spring/summer, I decided to put totes inside the raised beds. That way I don’t have to plant the whole bed at once as you mentioned. I just plant one tote at a time but it’s still raised high enough to prevent issues w/ the flooding in my area. So far it’s worked out great. thnx again for another great video.

your chairs gave me an idea about also using tables and other similar pieces. i've seen stuff that people put out for the trash that i could have grabbed to use as risers for the totes.
...often times you can find iron tables that were patio furniture but the glass tops have broken, grab them and use wood to make a replacement, it doesnt have to be cut to fit perfectly, just something thats long enough to fit across it so you can set your growing totes on it.
you can also grab curbside or thrift store dog houses, pet carriers, infant bathing tubs, kitchen washtubs, things like that to use as you would the growing totes.
you can also use cardboard boxes. and if you check w/grocery & liquor stores the heavy items come in heavy-duty cardboard & sometimes they have handles cut into them.
and w/lots of us using delivery services we get lots of boxes shipped right to us, and if you dont need them for growing or for composting inside, then you can use them for composting material and for weed barriers if you're planting on the ground.
these days all of the inks used in most paper printing & in shipping supplies are soy-based.

I bought a tree shredder machine this week at harbour freight. It will shred limbs up to 1 1/2 inches diameter. Definitely not a high power machine, it was $129.00. However Im going to use it to shred up cardboard boxes, and yard waste, and my compost with larger sticks in it. People are using office paper shredders for the cardboard, the machines life is short for the cost, hence the tree shredder. I'll be trying it soon starting with cardboard.

Girl! You've unleashed a manic gardening whirlwind in my house!!! lol I bought bunches of green and red tulle last week to keep birds, rats, and my dogs from devouring my fruit from now on. Thanks so much for the tip. Today, I bought my first $6 Walmart bin. I'm making an Earthbox hack wicking bin, as I am sometimes too ill to tend to the garden. (This has happened only a few times, but one dead garden is too many.) I'm going to plant chard or lettuce--haven't decided yet--plus parsley or basil. I've been successful growing greens indoors in tower gardens, but they are so noisy. Plus, they are expensive to operate and need chemicals. I am trying one bin as an experiment. My research is designed to determine if a wicking bin is productive as a tower garden but without the expense or irritating noise? My hypothesis is yes. If it's successful, I will put bins on shelves in the dining room. I stopped to eat lunch in the middle of filling it with garden junk, food scraps, comfrey leaves, and a bag of cheap potting soil. Since I always watch a YT vid to keep me company, I get to talk with you about one of my favorite subjects. Because this garden will be indoors, I will mix diatomaceous earth into the top inch of the potting soil--indoor garden bugs usually come from the potting soil. So there's that cost. Also, I'm going to add a few earthworms, because worms finding my dining room bins would be a miracle. I prefer not to grow veg in the ground, too. Thank you for another video. I feel like we're getting to be old friends. Thanks again.

I took cinder block 2 high and a sheet of plywood from a neighbor. 12 blocks total. I covered the plywood with a tarp. I put 5 or 7 gal grow bags on shoe trays. The trays are am inch deep and wide enough to hold 2 bags each. I did that so I can water less. Water every other day. On real hot days everyday. I'm in zone 6a in Cincinnati OH. I'm getting my seeds started indoors under grow lights. If you have any suggestions or ideas please share. I love you continent. Very helpful to me.

Hey Robbie, where I am staying in Alabama we have a space fenced in, and the east side of the fence is covered in the summer with a beautiful hummingbird vine but I was wondering should we add any other feeders for the hummers? I know they will be good pollinators right? You can't throw away scraps? But you can put them in the garden? Hopefully

My husband always asks whether something can be composted. I always say it's either on the compost heap or on the rocket I am shooting into the sun (aka landfill).
One my favorite garden tools is popsicle sticks and all those extra chopsticks I collected over the years. Very good for poking out seedlings and poking in seeds and labeling.
Wow, your squash is already looking amazing! I am just starting seeds for all the stuff that died in the winter. I am starting to see some volunteer seedlings though. I am keeping in eye on nighttime temperatures though just in case.

I layed 1/2 inch hardwire under my raised beds to keep out the moles, voles to keep out the wild hog, deer, rabbits, possum I had to get a grow tunnel my dirt is terrible so is cost of getting the compost, manure, grow dirt mix by the yard two years ago 12 yards 350.00 now it’s 579.00 🥴 I have hens and raise meat chics but just started and didn’t have enough to fill all my beds, but now after I bit the bullet and filled all my beds I will have enough of my own compost/manure to top my beds each season and won’t have to buy soil anymore. Growing like my family’s lives depend on it…with everything going up and up..it just might

Using storage rubbermaids is so smart! Especially when they're already somewhat busted and aren't useful for actually storing things anymore. A good way to recycle something that would otherwise just be thrown away. Although I have a question. Tomato plants like 5 gallons of soil. Would putting three of them in a 15-18 gal rubbermaid work? To allow them each around 5 gallons, or would only two be best?

Now they're in 3 separate bins instead of one and I'm going to the grocery vegetable department begging for their throw away scraps and foraging around my house, including shredding paper. I'm only one person and now I feel I've got another responsibility on my hands. Yikes. I may have to sell some to the fishermen down by my river. 😄

Question for you Robbie! I have a couple honey nut butternut squash that I’d planted in a cup with tulle lining it. Roots were coming out of the bottom so I removed it to put in a 4 inch nursery pot. Some of the roots broke off in the repotting of them. Do you think they will be ok? I’m a little worried because I did quite a few other things in a tulle lined plastic solo cup. Did all of your plants do ok when you removed them? Or should have I put the tulle in the next pot?

    • @PDingenen65
      @PDingenen65 2 года назад

When you water your plants, water from the bottom( on the plate or bowl your pot is in. The eggs of the gnats stay in the first inch on top. They will die because the soil is dry on top. You can also make a neem spray and spray on top of the soil. That should do it.
