I'd never heard of this film before and saw that it was in the 'Leaving Soon' section on Netflix. I found you because I was curious about what others were saying about it. I've gotta say, I really enjoyed this film! I dunno how well it was received at the time, but I feel as though it probably didn't get enough praise, and I'm guessing that Robin Williams also didn't get the credit he deserved, which is a shame, because he really did a wonderful job here.
I enjoyed your vid as well! Cheers!

Yeah it’s a film you rarely hear anyone talk about which is a real shame.

Anyone ever notice how r obin williams, a comedian by trade, was a wonderful dramatic actor in his early films, probably more so than his prime films

I recall seeing some of this on channel 4 as a kid but I never had the opportunity to get back to it. Will have to check out this Indicator release.
Paul Maszursky did one of my favourites, 1974's offbeat road movie Harry and Tonto. The fact that there's no Blu ray edition is bordering on criminal.

I have never even heard of that one Matt.

HARRY AND TONTO is a classic! DOWN AND OUT IN BEVERLY HILLS has yet to be released on bluray as well.

It's superb - gritty yet tender, like many a 70s classic.

I think Down and Out... is in HD on Disney plus Star, but it certainly deserves a physical Blu release.

I love this movie. Not just the story and the characters, but also the whole early 80's New York City vibe, a New York that no longer exists. It's very low key funny, comedy grounded in realism.

I love these kinds of films where the backgrounds of the scenes are such interesting locals. I’ve never been to New York, gotta imagine it’s all gentrified, homogenised tourist or artisan driven now.
