My mother though she is dead (Dec 2010) still wants her money back from watching 2001 a Space odyssey back in the day when it was released. Every time that movie was mentioned she'd yell, "I want my money back!" :D
Carletta and Ray I can relate to your mom, a friend and me saw this when it came out and we were 10 years old. You can imagine the amount head scratching that occurred. I will say that I saw it again years later and liked it much better, although I still don't have any idea what it's about.
I saw "There will be blood" at the theater. I had nothing to do that day so I went to the theater to watch a movie. There was absolutely nothing interesting, saw the title "hmm, yeah, a bloody action movie, that'll do". Go inside, people start coming in. They were all elderly people, like 65+, every single one of them. I had a big "WTF" on my face but still stayed. Conclusion, it really is a good movie that I would have never watch otherwise but I was very much pleased with my mistake.
ya i hated it but the "cool kids" couldnt stop blathering about it. It was just a movie about a sociopathic businessman and a conniving amoral priest and everyone whos life they fucked over
I remember skipping this movie for months cause it looked shit but Netflix wouldn’t stop recommending it so I watched it out of spite and it fuckin slaps lmao I watch it every now and then just for the I Drink Your Milkshake scene

18 films I hadn't seen but ("2001:A Space Odyssey ") I had seen on tv a few times and even bought the "2 Disk Special Edition"along with ("2010:THE YEAR WE MAKE CONTACT") also on DVD.
My husband was one of the few who had seen "Sorcerer" when it was in the theater. When he bought it, it took some convincing on his part to get me to watch it with him. I did and realized why he had been bragging on it as long as he had. Amazing film. Find it, watch it. It deserved the number one spot on this list.
I've seen most of these movies on this list. There Will Be Blood is a really fucking good movie. Especially when you get to the sign language scene between the father, son, and interpreter. It's crazy mind boggling.
I've seen 2001 A Space Odyssey at least four or five times , and it gets better every time. I saw Primer at the St Louis Film Festival where it was shown. The writer and director fielded questions after it was shown. It was really interesting and a great movie. I'm glad you had it on because I've always tried to remember the title and never could.
I saw Annihilation with my friend. It seemed like it wanted to be good, but was riddled with plot holes so big that it was clear at one point they changed ideas mid filming and didn’t go back to redo one of the major scenes. Which basically ruined it for me. It bites as it seems so good and probably needs a sequel to answer everything. I kinda hope it gets one so I can understand what I saw.
I have seen probably 1/3 of these movies. I like to find out about movies that people don't really know about and see them if possible. I would highly recommend 'Moon'.
18/25 seen a lot of these, some of them were so good they were warranted to be on this list but they are pretty popular, not sure where you got your data from. There were probably 3 or 4 that truly deserve to be on this list based on the parameters given by the title of this video. Great editing on the video though, simple yet refined and organized.
There are a few you have there I haven't seen so I appreciate the info. Two of them are remakes from foreign films such as the Sorcerer. You might want to go to your local library sometime and check out the foreign film section (don't worry, they have subtitles) as a lot of those films are remade here in America. For example, the movie Solaris, which I really loved, was first a Russian film by the same name, and it was a really good film. Also, you need to remember your list is for people who like movies that make you think and reflect, so that should be the first consideration for anyone who is curious about what you have presented. That being said, kudos for such a great list.
I was so excited to see a Ghost Story and when I finally did I was disappointed. I pomised myself that in the future I will not get so excited and "anticipate" a new movie. I think by doing that you set your standards so high that they rarely can reach those heights no matter how great they actually are.
Ex Machina was awesome. I totally didn't expect that ending. I love movies like this. I love Isaac Asimovs work too. Chappie, Bicentennial Man, I Robot, wasn't AI one if his too? And I mean influenced by. Not so much who directed it lol. Great list!
personally I didn't see the big deal with Primer. I had no trouble following it and didn't see why it garnered so much praise. some great movies to watch are David and Lisa(the original), electric dreams, Harold & Maude, Deep Star Six, Brazil, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead, etc. etc.
i just seen Nine Days, somewhat similar to Soul in that, it involves conversations with spirits that are about to be incarnated, or not. It is good and it ends with a great poem. May you enjoy!
I just watched "Brothers" this morning. It's not on the list but I'd never seen it. WOW! So intense! And superb acting. Add the fact their are men (and women) living in their own personal hell because of war. .. Just .. wow. Much respect to our men and women fighting in a war .. Any war. Our wars .. Foreign wars .. Past ~ Present ~ Future. And I honor in remembrance, those who never came home :(
I've seen quite a few of them, actually. The Thing, Mosquito Coast, 2001, They Live and a couple more on this list. And I agree, they deserve to be seen 🎥🎬
I saw “12 Angry Men” in my intro psy class last year. It’s based off a play that was written by the same guy. The movie has also gotten a lot of reboots.
Alexis Welsh Also it inspired an episode of “All in the Family” in the 70s in which Edith Bunker served on a jury in a murder trial and was the lone holdout.
Did Dingbat prevail? I probably saw it, back in the day, but then i actually watched thr original Star Trek, before it was cancelled and went into syndication, so I'm olllld...
They Live is one of my all time favorites! Roddy Piper & Keith David have an awesome fight scene in it. I actually have the DVD lol! Night Of The Comet is a pretty good movie too.
Just over half! Enjoyed 13 of them. Pretty good list. The great thing is modern technology makes it a pleasure to trawl the depths of the internet to catch ,drag up and enjoy these ,and many more, forgotten gems. The worst thing they can do is attach the " cult" moniker to any film. Needs to be used with great caution!
Along the same line as this video and the number. Can you guys make a video about the best movies that were box office flops because of the blockbuster movie came out around the same time or on the same day?
My suggestions: Byzantium Twixt Pans Labyrinth Apocalypto The extraordinary adventures of Adele Blanc-sec Empire of the sun Original versions of the grudge (Ju-On) and the ring (Ringu)
One film I don't know if it should be on a list somewhere is Waking Life which was also done by the filmmaker who did A Scanner Darkly. It is done in the same way as the aforementioned movie and is rather deep in its contents.
I have seen a few of these movies and yes they are very well worth a watch. I think they should do a video on movies, critics and websites gave horrible reviews but actually are good.
This is in fact a 'VERY' good list of films, theirs not often I agree with the majority of films on one list or ones I haven't seen feel so compelled to watch 👍
The Thing (1982) Saw this on video at a friend's house during a snow storm in February! I don't mind telling you that the 15 mile drive home, through heavy snow and bitter cold, was scary as shit! Kept thinking the damn car would stall, or get stuck. Best sci-fi/horror movie EVER!
I have seen about 2/3rd of these movies and I imagine that this list is spot on. All the ones I've seen were great. I'd add Cloud Atlas as well. Well worth watching even though it's a challenge to follow. Many stars give great performances.
DrakoDragonis i love the scene from they live where he tries to get the guy to put on the glasses and they beat the crap out of each other for like 10 minutes then he puts them on anyways.
4 does he say daniel lee lewis? I own almost all of these, i highly recommend tideland by terry gilliam, if you're into to movies that " make you think", or Salvador Dali's Meshes of the afternoon. Great list guys !
I saw the first four films on this list and you are very correct. A scanner darkly was very very good. Also I randomly watched Ex Machina one night and it is easily one of the most intense and cerebral films I've seen. I would highly recommend that too. And of course, Primer! That movie was so awesome. I had to use the Internet to unravel that can of worms. Worth watching 3 times at least. Great list. Thanks guys!
I watched 12 Angry men with my gram back in the 60s. I also have a VCR tape of the movie. I saw 2001 Space Odyssy back when it first came to cinemas. I have it on a VCR tape as well. Got A GHOST STORY, from the Library back in March. (DVD). Most wonderful, thought provoking spiritual movie I've ever experienced. Will have that movie soon. The second follow-up movie, Space Odyssey 2010 I think it was called, is a fantastic, must see continuence. These 4 movies are amongst my 25 - TOP - SHELF favorites.
I've only seen 4. 'Her' and 'Moon' were well done in all, but so depressing, because we can relate, and that disturbs us as humans. I am glad I watched them in the privacy of my own home. It is understandable, especially in the era of superhero blockbusters, that these movies and other "cult classics" gather more fans after their theater release. When going to a theater, we seek an escape from what is relatable.
I’ve seen: The Thing, 12 Angry Men, & 2001 A Space Odyssey. The Westerns sound interesting. The Bad Lands sounds like a Bonnie & Clyde type movie. I love psychological thrillers so, I’ll give these a watch.
I've seen all but 4 of them. In fact, I watch 12 Angry Men earlier today. I expected this list to cut a bit deeper. Movies like: 1. American Pop - Ralph Bakshi was using rotoscope 30 years before A Scanner Darkly. ruclips.net/video/7hyykG69Go8/видео.html 2. Mongol - The story of the Great Kahn ruclips.net/video/Hr_PNoCZXg4/видео.html 3. Inherit The Wind - Based on the Scopes Monkey Trial ruclips.net/video/8YUnOHihAU0/видео.html 4. Wristcutters: A Love Story - A film set in a strange afterlife way station that has been reserved for people who have committed suicide. It really is a love story with a lot of comedy thrown in. Any movie with Tom Waits can't be wrong. ruclips.net/video/NHAQW2ko6yI/видео.html 5. Angel Heart - The Devil hires a private eye to track down a lost soul. ruclips.net/video/kxq6ekKjBRE/видео.html 6. The Ledge - Charlie Hunnam spends most of the movie on the ledge of a building where he is being forced to jump. ruclips.net/video/-47qa2oVcO4/видео.html 7. The Kentucky Fried Movie - Want to see what the Zuckers were doing before Airplane! and what Jim Abrahams was doing before Police Squad? Look no further. John Landis directed before Animal House and Blues Brothers. A farce. ruclips.net/video/tgSXKM9WcxY/видео.html 8. Big Fish - A son tries to find the truth about his father's tall tales. Could they be true? ruclips.net/video/M3YVTgTl-F0/видео.html 9. Back From Eternity. Plane crashes in jungle and now passengers and crew must fight headhunters. The best of a movie that has been remade over and over. ruclips.net/video/vBCTlEQ4ZRs/видео.html 10. Stunt Rock - Not a great movie but certainly one interesting to see. Ozploitation film about stuntman Grant Page who is played by...Grant Page. Stunts are somewhat mild now compared to 1979. ruclips.net/video/6G6XgzhtCJI/видео.html 11 ( I can never stop at 10). The Gods Must Be Crazy - A pilot throw a coke bottle out of a plane and changes the lives of a tribe in the Kalahari Desert. ruclips.net/video/ETnXbF884S0/видео.html 12. The Emerald Forest - Powerful story about Powers Booth's son being kidnapped by native tribesmen and his fight to recover him 10 years later. Not like it sounds. It isn't a civilized man-good/tribesman-bad type of movie. ruclips.net/video/FR4riTsF21o/видео.html
I have watched The Thing, Annihilation, Ex Machina and Your Name. So many to still watch. I want to watch Enemy soon though. I love psychological movies
these are great films : rory o'shea was here, Help, It the think that came from outer space, Ladder 49, Cutthroat Island, The Conqueror, The Chase, Sorcerer, Heaven's Gate, Apocalypse Now, Krull, where angels go trouble follows, The trouble with angels, Meet john doe, In the Mouth of Madness
I have only seen "The "Thing out of all of these. I'm gonna see "Your Name" soon but somehow I have a gut-feeling, telling me that I shouldn't watch it. 06:53 Speaking of emotionally heavy and gut-wrenching. Have you seen "Bridge To Terabithia"?
dtulip1 I litterlay saw it just now. That movie was complicated as hell but I understood everything, it still took me a while. It was my first real anime movie and I loved it. The script was really, really great and so was the way it was animated. I got pissed off on two occasions while watching the movie because I thought it was gonna end in a certain way but I was wrong. 10 out of 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice choice for #1, a victim of the Force, haha. It's actually a version of "The Wages of Fear" , a French-Italian pic from 1953, which is worth a look
I’ve seen 2001. Once when I was 12 and then as an adult. Also saw 12 Angry Men. , once a year. Love it. A fantastic cast. It shows how stereotyping can easily become outright racism. And how logic and calm can overcome anger and bias.
I'd like to see all of these now. I have seen maybe two of them. I thought you should add "Revolution" to the list. It was very underrated, but I think it is an excellent telling of the story of the American Revolution because it tells the story from the point of view of an ordinary man.
what was that movie where in the trailer a guy looks down and theres a black guys arm where his arm is and he says why is my arm black and they say we were out of caucasian in your size
You should check out a movie called "Stay" about a psychologist searching for his patient who has threatened to commit suicide on the birthday of his favorite artist. And it shows him taking a long road down the rabbit hole.
The Thing is a timeless classic & Annihilation is one of the best movies I have seen in years. Ex Machina is another under the radar powerhouse that will leave you in awe. I really hope they make the other 2 movies that were the 2nd and 3rd books of the Southern Reach Trilogy. The second being Authority and the final book in the series is Acceptance. Damn I hope they make the movies for the other two books because the first movie was awesome
Hey Mike 'Shattered Glass'...I worked for the man who inspired the story. And the actress who played the journalist/writer with her colleagues who found him out to be a liar, I know her and mom.
I am pretty behind on movies. I need to seriously get caught up at some point, actually getting to theaters to see them feels like a chore anymore due to the over priced tickets and snacks. I guess it makes perfect sence because of things like netflix and hulu are competition. Have you seen The Room! Its so bad its good!
list25 Yes, I saw that. It's obviously not the same thing. When referring to a particular item on your lists for the purposes of commenting, very few will find clicking to a separate website for a quick reminder to be helpful in any way. Sorry, guys, but you are actively hindering comments on your RUclips channel in favor of clicks on your website. Mind you, this is a common practice, it's just disappointing to find that you are doing it too.
I've Seen.... The Thing , Her, They Live, The Grey, Appaloosa, Annihilation, Moon, Ex Machina, Locke, Enemy, Blue Ruin, The Mosquito Coast, There Will Be Blood, 2001: a space odyssey. None of the others...
My mother though she is dead (Dec 2010) still wants her money back from watching 2001 a Space odyssey back in the day when it was released. Every time that movie was mentioned she'd yell, "I want my money back!" :D
I'm sorry. I'm afraid I can't do that.
Carletta and Ray I can relate to your mom, a friend and me saw this when it came out and we were 10 years old. You can imagine the amount head scratching that occurred. I will say that I saw it again years later and liked it much better, although I still don't have any idea what it's about.
Your mother was a cretin.
Yeah that movie sucked I agree
@@oobaka1967 Oh don`t be afraid there is nothing to be a afraid of why were you afraid ?

I've seen 13 of them. Grey, Moon, and Her were already on my watch list. Adding Enemy and Ghost Story.
I've seen most of these movies. Thanks for the ones I haven't seen. I'll have to go look them up for a watch.
xisobelx373 thank u. I've seen Scanner Darkly and I want to see Moon. I'll have to check out Blue Ruin.
Who hasn't seen The Thing or They Live? Do I watch too many movies or am I just old?
I hadn't even heard of the movie, and my family owns fifteen hundred movies.
I've never seen The Thing and I don't really care
Both are classics, anything Carpenter in the 80's was great.
Well im pretty into horror and 80s movies so yea ive seen both. They live is such a fun movie
@@johnclaybaugh9536 And they don't have The Thing? Crazy, have you seen it now? Its 100% a must see
I've seen They Live, Badlands, 2001 and 12 Angry Men. I want to see Sorcerer, if only because I like Roy Scheider.
My husband was one of the few who had seen "Sorcerer" when it was in the theater. When he bought it, it took some convincing on his part to get me to watch it with him. Yeah I got something different from that scene the second time I watched it, memento is like that
One movie that everyone should see is Runaway Train. It's classic starring Jon Voigt, Eric Roberts and Rebecca DeMorney.
I haven't seen any of these. If I can tear myself away from RUclips I'll check them out. Are they on Netflix?
I've seen 2001 A Space Odyssey at least four or five times , and it gets better every time. I saw Primer at the St Louis Film Festival where it was shown. New York film academy
Thanx for the heads up mike🙂 wrote many of these movies on a list now, so ive got a few days watching them all😊
I haven't seen any but now I wanna see "Your Name" it sounds really good... o.o
I’ve seen about 6 of these... “Moon” is truly AMAZING! Sam Rockwell was genius in that role! One of my favorites!
I loved Your Name. I saw it in the theater. It was definitely one of those movies I told people I saw, with the response "never heard of it."
Great post but could you post a textual list of the movies in the description. Handy for people who want to check a few of these out.
Ex-Machina, that movie is always in my mind whenever I think of the worst that could happen with artificial intelligence.
I have seen probably 1/3 of these movies. I like to find out about movies that people don't really know about and see them if possible. I would highly recommend 'Moon'.
The TV GUIDE description "Hayden Christiansen puts down his light saber..." piqued my interest in "Shattered Glass". Excellent movie.
18/25 seen a lot of these, some of them were so good they were warranted to be on this list but they are pretty popular, not sure where you got your data from. There were probably 3 or 4 that truly deserve to be on this list based on the parameters given by the title of this video.

The soundtrack for Te Sorcerer is freaking awesome! Tangerine Dream at their best. Fantastic list.
There are a few you have there I haven't seen so I appreciate the info. Two of them are remakes from foreign films such as the Sorcerer. You might want to go to your local library sometime and check out the foreign film section (don't worry, they have subtitles) as a lot of those films are remade here in America. Hopefully these not so well known movies get there share of love because of you 👌👍
I was so excited to see a Ghost Story and when I finally did I was disappointed. I pomised myself that in the future I will not get so excited and "anticipate" a new movie. Christopher Nolan's debut "Following" also goes unnoticed.
The movie clearly paved way for some of his greatest flicks and should be recognised more
I saw three of these. 2001 being my favorite. An odd film, but beautiful on the big screen.

The ones I HAVE seen, are definitely great, underrated movies.

Pans Labyrinth
Apocalypto
The extraordinary adventures of Adele Blanc-sec
Empire of the sun
Original versions of the grudge (Ju-On) and the ring (Ringu)

12 Angry Men is one of my favorites...we did it as our school's spring play during my senior year
12 Angry Men is one of my favorite movies. It really makes you think about how our life experiences shape our viewpoints and opinions.
Sorcerer was a remake of a French film called The Wages of Fear. It is really great and available on DVD Criterion edition.
The Thing (1982) Saw this on video at a friend's house during a snow storm in February! I don't mind telling you that the 15 mile drive home, through heavy snow and bitter cold, was scary as shit! Kept thinking the damn car would stall, or get stuck.

DrakoDragonis i love the scene from they live where he tries to get the guy to put on the glasses and they beat the crap out of each other for like 10 minutes then he puts them on anyways.
Fun fact: A good chunk of that was actually real. A long, warm day with many takes, lead to fraid tempers & some genuine hard hits :P
I came here to kick ass and chew bubble gum and I'm all out of bubble gum.
It's been so long since I've seen it that I'm inclined to watch it again.

2. Mongol - The story of the Great Kahn
ruclips.net/video/Hr_PNoCZXg4/видео.html
3. Inherit The Wind - Based on the Scopes Monkey Trial
ruclips.net/video/8YUnOHihAU0/видео.html
4. Wristcutters: A Love Story - A film set in a strange afterlife way station that has been reserved for people who have committed suicide. It really is a love story with a lot of comedy thrown in. Any movie with Tom Waits can't be wrong.
ruclips.net/video/NHAQW2ko6yI/видео.html
5. Angel Heart - The Devil hires a private eye to track down a lost soul.
ruclips.net/video/kxq6ekKjBRE/видео.html
6. The Ledge - Charlie Hunnam spends most of the movie on the ledge of a building where he is being forced to jump.
ruclips.net/video/-47qa2oVcO4/видео.html
7. The Kentucky Fried Movie - Want to see what the Zuckers were doing before Airplane! and what Jim Abrahams was doing before Police Squad? Look no further. John Landis directed before Animal House and Blues Brothers. A farce.
ruclips.net/video/tgSXKM9WcxY/видео.html
8. Big Fish - A son tries to find the truth about his father's tall tales. Could they be true?
ruclips.net/video/M3YVTgTl-F0/видео.html
9. Back From Eternity. Plane crashes in jungle and now passengers and crew must fight headhunters. The best of a movie that has been remade over and over.
ruclips.net/video/vBCTlEQ4ZRs/видео.html
10. Stunt Rock - Not a great movie but certainly one interesting to see. Ozploitation film about stuntman Grant Page who is played by...Grant Page. Stunts are somewhat mild now compared to 1979.
ruclips.net/video/6G6XgzhtCJI/видео.html
11 ( I can never stop at 10). The Gods Must Be Crazy - A pilot throw a coke bottle out of a plane and changes the lives of a tribe in the Kalahari Desert.
ruclips.net/video/ETnXbF884S0/видео.html
12. The Emerald Forest - Powerful story about Powers Booth's son being kidnapped by native tribesmen and his fight to recover him 10 years later. Not like it sounds. It isn't a civilized man-good/tribesman-bad type of movie.

Have you seen "Bridge To Terabithia"?
unogazzy84 bridge to terabithia was sad :c
King Raygun You can say that again.
Read the book. It's so much better!
You have to see "Your Name" twice ...just saying
dtulip1 I litterlay saw it just now.
Sorcerer - yes, yes, yes. I was one of the few who saw it in the theater during its first run, and it has haunted me for over forty years.
Lol I have no idea
I've seen about 1/3 of the movies on this list. Nice taste in movies guys!
You should check out a movie called "Stay" about a psychologist searching for his patient who has threatened to commit suicide on the birthday of his favorite artist. And it shows him taking a long road down the rabbit hole.
"I have come to chew bubble gum and kick ass and i'm all out of bubble gum" Rowdy Roddy Piper from the movie "they live"
12 Angry Men is a must-see! I have also seen 2001 A Space Odyssey twice sorcerer it took twice to fully understand what was going on.
I saw "Sorcerer" when it was released in 1977. It's worth the watch!
12 Angry Men. Freshmen year of high school(1995-1996)
Hey Mike
'Shattered Glass'...I worked for the man who inspired the story. And the actress who played the journalist/writer with her colleagues who found him out to be a liar, I know her and mom.
I saw a small piece of "Scanner Darkly" somewhere before I was distracted. I didn't know what it was or were to look for it. I was curios about it.
Your Name is a beautiful movie. It gave me so many feelings.
List25,
I miss the list being in the video description for reference. That was very convenient.
We still have the link to the written versions of each list in the description.
list25
Yes, I saw that.
"12 Angry Men"is a serious must see...simply to be totally mesmerized by the brilliant talent of Henry Fonda alone. What a brilliant actor..
The only one I saw before watching was "The Thing", but yesterday I watched "They Live" and albeit strange, it was definitely a good watch.
What about "the girl with all the gifts "?..it adds a new and realistic twist to zombie movies
Thank you Mike! Breaking the waves is a great movie, 2001, is a classic every movie lover must watch!
The Thing is one of my all time favs
A Simple Plan - Stars Bill Paxton, Billy Bob Thornton, Bridget Fonda
That was a nice list
Ex Machina and the anime Your Name are both so good.
People don't seem to think about it but if you have good writing you can stick two characters in a box and it would be a movie worth watching.
I've Seen....
The Thing
, Her, They Live, The Grey, Appaloosa, Annihilation, Moon, Ex Machina, Locke, Enemy, Blue Ruin, The Mosquito Coast, There Will Be Blood, 2001: a space odyssey.

12 Angry Men is probably one of my favorite movies of all time 😫🙌🏾
I don't see someone seeing everyone single one of these be honest you know you missed at least three
I really suggest the Canadian Trilogy CUBE. Gripping until the end .
