Totally absorbing - as always. The enthusiasm is infectious. Thank you.
Awesome! Thanks!
I don't know about anyone else but I have learned a lot from watching your videos, very informative...
I think others have learned a few things too. Hence the +18 Million Views! Thank you for your support.
Love straight razor with Damascus steel metallurgy ! And, a great opening for the video !
Thanks very much! That's an oldie! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
If you're interested, here's the same Boker Damascus Razor #006 manufactured: shavenation.com/collections/boker-straight-razors/products/boker-damascus-steel-5-8-straight-razor-ebony-handles-006-made
Garry Kusch nah is meant to be collector's item, my filarmonica is the best shave ever
Your method of using your finger to trim/shave the back of your neck from over a year ago was fantastic. My barber tells me I always look very polished. Thanks GEO!!!
Lol-Thanks Tony, I've been sent several products to test for back of the neck shaving. So far nothing beats the magic finger! Take care.
Your videos have really helped me improve my shaving technique and found that I cut myself less and try to follow the same routine as your self thanks for the pointers it's been very helpful.
Thanks Gordon, I'm happy to help.
Really nice to see you shave with a straight and you made it look so easy. I've never shaved with a straight but maybe someday I will. Great video, as always!Chris
When you get a few shaves under your belt with a straight razor you don't have to think too much about the process. It sort of becomes automatic, and very enjoyable. A type of personal challenge that gives you a great feeling after you've completed it!
So I did my first 'straight razor' shave this week, sort of, and I didn't cut myself! I received a very inexpensive shavette style razor for my birthday and went and bought some Wilkinson Sword blades and gave it a go. I watched a bunch of your videos and employed many of the techniques you have shown and it went ok.
I applied very little pressure and by no means was it a close shave: in fact I finished with my old standard razor like %99 of the rest of the population uses. It was a good first experience though and I will continue to practice and get better.
Thank you for the videos and keep up your great work, it really helps people like me and brings new members into the club. When I'm ready, I'll be looking for the right razor for me and I hope you and Shave Nation can help.
Thanks again.
Thanks much! That's why I put the videos out there starting about 6 years ago. So people can take the computer , laptop, phone, whatever in the bathroom and follow along. Much easier to learn by demonstration than by just reading about something in a book. Your technique will improve with each shave!
I remember back in the day when I would get a shave at the barbershop. The barber would hot towel twice. The second hot towel was after he had lathered my face up. After the second hot towel, he would lather again and go to work with the straight razor. It was fantastic.
wooohhh!
I started shaving with a safety razor 1 year and 3 months ago now thanks to your videos Geofatboy
3 months ago I also bought a straight razor, I will admit I have not used it as much as I should have, but I am determined to master the straight!
Hi Allan, If you're happy with your safety razor and the shaves it provides, then stick with it. But sometimes you get the itch to bust out the straight razor :) Can't resist!
Well, I am very happy, but I want to take that extra step, so I just can't let myself go lol
Not even capable of growing stubble yet, still love watching these vids :') Damascus steel razor is fookin joocy
Str8 to the point with that beautiful Böker Geo. Loving all the new intros and backgrounds of your recents videos, keep em coming brother.
More Power to you Sir and ShaveNation!
The Admiral
Admiral, great to hear from you and thanks for the kind words! Just trying to keep it fresh with the intros and background views. Even I get tired of seeing the same bathroom walls! My best to the Mrs!
Thank you for another great video Geofatboy. Your videos are just great to watch and learn from.
Love straight razors. I'm planning to buy Boker Damast Horn 5/8 Spanish Point razor, which will be ideal for ideal lines of facial hair.

Nice $900 straight! That's insane!!! I'm not opposed to paying $200, 300 or even $400 for a beautiful custom...BUT THIS is just out of the question! Enjoy your videos and products bro!
I only use Böker and Thiers Issard for my shaving. I have the same Damast straight razor and it is my favorite. Only with this blade I dare to go against the grain on the upperlip...
Nice video Geofatboy. Also a nice recording of the damast steel when cutting hair.
loving the audible feedback. Great shave..
Thanks-5 years and $$$ went into getting that sound just right!
Very nice razor, excellent video Geo. This is coming from Lee Majors (The Bionic Man).
Great, helpful commentary, Geo.
Hi Martin, I'm not sure what you look like, but every time I read your name I say it in my mind with an English accent, thinking of the butler on Parent Trap who's name was Martin as well. If you've ever seen the movie, You'll know who I'm speaking of.
@@geofatboy Hey, Geo, interesting to hear what people think I look like, based on my message(s). I'm a 68-year-old who tutors Spanish and English for a living. Doing that, I have gotten more and more involved with expressing myself more accurately and/or articulately. I taught English in Madrid Spain for four years. I'm American and speak with standard North Anerican English pronunciation. Originally, I'm from South Bend, Indiana. My work, my education and my experience might be what causes my phrasing to come across as "stuffy," if that's what you mean. I think the actor you've mentioned was named Sebastian Cabot, but I'll look it up to know for sure. Thanks for the reply, Geo. Entertaining, eh. And your vids are always worthwhile and very helpful viewing. Ciao.
Geo - great razor great shave. I am always enjoying your videos. I am from Germany and saw this beauty in a Newsletter from a local dealer. - I must tell you Geo that app. 3 years ago I learned DE shaving from your videos threfore always happy to receive a notification abt. New uploaded video from you. I have a straight razor too but so far using it by far too seldom - too much respect and probably not my comfort zone .
Regards from Germany
Christoph
Thanks very much Christoph! Greetings from the USA! I'm glad I was able to help you get started and enjoy DE shaving. No hurry on the straight razor, take your time with it. Try doing some with the straight, then finishing with the DE. Mix it up! Take care. Geo.
you always show a great shave geo with tons of experience. i hope one day i get as good as you with a straight razor. im buying my first dovo and paddle strop bit pricey but hey its still Christmas lol so why not. so looking forward trying it out. thanks for all the advice you give to us beginners with a straight razor.
Hi Geo - thanks for all your videos. I learned a lot from them. Is there any chance of showing us how to use a Kamisori?
Geo, I got the other Boker Damascus from you a while back---I don't treat it as a collectors item--I use it often--amazing razor, gives me great shaves! I personally honed it once--super sharp and smooth. Appreciate you doing another straight razor video. I should have let you try mine before I bought it!
Yep, I remember, White bone scales, that was a beautiful razor! I'm gonna do my best to step it up with a few more straight-shave videos. Just curious, I shaved with this right out of the box. What was your procedure for honing it before you shaved with it?
+geofatboy I too shaved with it just after stropping for my first shave--it was good and I probably didn't need to do it, but I figured the bevel was set if it was shave ready, so I just used 8K and 12K stones to get it to where I like it. Some people take it much further, but finishing on a 12K and then using some chromium oxide on the linen strop is my final touch--works for me! I appreciate your support to the military and your shop blows all the others away with speed of shipping and customer service in my opinion!
Thanks very much Kurt! I appreciate your service and your support.
We will keep on doing what we do the way we do it :)
Very cool razor. Very loud, audible as it sweeps away the stubbles in seconds. Smoothly even after the first pass. Simpsons brush always rules. Real royal shave. Also nice looking landscape, on background, and bandana. By the way I talked about adding value to a razor after you use. You can call it a signature series from George Fatboy
Maybe a new section on the website shavenation.com/ of "Test Driven By Geo In Video" shaving equipment. Thanks for that Dismont. I'm glad that you notice and comment on the changes and upgrades regarding background and bandanna, etc. Thanks for your support.
awesome str8rzr Geo! thank you for sharing... Mutha Latha! 😆💈
Thanks James-ÜBER-LATHER :)
I loooove the sound it makes
very cool razor I'm with you all the way when it comes to Taylor of old bond street sandalwood the smell takes me back to when my dad used to take me to the barbers as a boy
TOBS Sandalwood-shavenation.com/search?q=tobs+sandalwood one of my all-time favorite scents. I used it about 5-1/2 years ago in my videos and sales skyrocketed from there. You can graph the sales right along side the increase of my video views I've been told.
Glad you used the Damascus blade mate as I have been tossing up to get either stainless steel, carbon, steel of this Damascus type my only problem of course is like how much do they cost. Have got my eye on a kit with a Damascus blade but I doubt very much I could afford what you can use.
GEO! How does it feel to shave with a $1,300.00 razor? MUST BE NIZE!!!
Not to mention a $180.00 lather brush.
Amazing straight razor! Nice work
very cool man. it's been a while since we've seen a straight razor video.
Thanks Steve, stay tuned, you're bound to see a few more :)
Hey, Geo, it's kind of logical that, on the second pass, you use a thinner layer of lather so as to be closer to an already somewhat mowed-down beard. That's the rationale, right? Having a thicker layer of lather on the second and/or third pass provides no special function, or does it? Lastly, with all the audible feedback your microphone picked up, that shave (i.e. with the Boker Damascus) didn't result in a BBS shave, did it? Still, it was satisfactory and/or satisfying enough for you, eh. From what I heard, in spite of the very smooth appearance, I figure that the goal is not a BBS shave each time you shave, correct?
Thanks, Geo. There are multiple videos of yours on every aspect of wet-shaving, so much so that you now primarily dedicate your attention to some other area of life. Might there be, in the future, provided that somehow you discover an area that needs more clarification or demonstration, something to compel you to make other wet-shaving videos, besides on different and/or new products in/on the market?
Whatever the case, Geo, thank you. Hope everything's fine in your life, regardless of your video-making activity or lack of it.
Cheers, dude.
That sound is amazing!)
Wow there geo, careful you don't get hit.
I'm blocking with the left...
What steel do you prefer @geofatboy ? Carbon, stainless, or damascus?
I love the layered steel look of Damascus! 150 layers or more is just super cool!
Beautiful Boker. I wish it was a 6/8 though. Me love me a good Boker.
Thanks Ian-Plenty of 6/8 Bokers if you want to take a peek: shavenation.com/collections/boker-straight-razors
Can you just do one pass...opposite to the grain...S to N? Or, is there a good reason to do 2 passes? N/S then S/N? (I've never u sed a safety or straight)...
Awesome razor. Did you ever get rid of it.
Great shave sir
Thanks Gonzo, greatly appreciated. Hope all is well with you and yours!
+geofatboy everything is going well. Hope all is well with the family and business. Keep making the awesome videos! Thanks Geo for all you've done and continue to do for the community.
Its about time you feature a straight; not interested in "Safety" razors.. Geo about a year ago i bought a 6/8 Boker Elite, its awesome, but real heavy, i have to save for some Shapton stones, i have it so sharp now it will instantly cut below the surface of your skin, it just doesn't shave well, need more practice honing, to date i have 540 shaves, getting pretty good by now, i can even shave faster than you, guess i had a good mentor, thanks.....Karl p.s. i always put baby oil on my blades when done shaving, works well against corrosion...
It was fun picking up the straight razor for a video demo, which I had not done for a few months. You will see more like this with different razors. BTW- 540 shaves is a lot of shaves! I'm glad you've seen your technique improve. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Man :-)
I need some help, does all the straight razor shaves the same,i want to have one but don't want to spend too much money on it
Do these need to be loaded with a double edge razor?
traditional straight razors do no not use DE blades...
@@geofatboy How do they work?
😀😊👍🏼 Now That’s a Close Shave 😮😀😊
On which highway you are trying to shave? 😄
It seems the TOBS didn't made your whiskers soft enough and for that reason your razor edge looks a little bumpy on your skin, not to mention the exaggerating "singing" of your Boker blade on your first pass, despite the fact you've been using a hot towel at the beginning
Thanks for your input Alexandru. Ahhhh- the "singing" of the razor! I'm proud of the fact that you can hear it, and many Gents tell me that the sound of the beardage removal is music to their ears! Lots of time, trial and error, and $$ went into getting the recordings just right. Also your thumbnail pic reminds me of Furio (AKA Italian Badass) from the Sopranos.
I just bought it. lol. to put next to my synthetic ivory/bone boker damascus
Just a friendly straight razor enthusiast public service announcement.... always... always lock your bathroom door and keep your distractions out of your shaving space.
I'm wondering.........
What exactly is it that makes the sound of the hairs being cut when shaving with just one blade?
I'm definitely no sound engineer but I'm sure it has to do with the "singing" or vibration that the blade makes when coming in contact and slicing through the tough beard whiskers. You definitely won't ever get that sound from multi-blade razors.
Did you hone it first or does it come that sharp out of the box? Is damascus steel harder to hone?
Nope, I shaved with it right out of the black box!
Geofatboy, how many stones would or should you use to hone/sharpen a straight razor
I'm asking myself this question too...
The sound of this is very loud ! My cheap shavette with derby blades doesn't make this sound... It just glides smoothely and silently on my skin and shaves all the hair off as it goes !
Is this loud scratching sound a straight razor thing ?
yah it is a straight razor thing...
AAAH this must be the razor The Stallion uses quite a bit. I always thought he was saying BOCA, not Boker, damn Rhode Island accents, I must say, Geo, you pronounced it BOCA as well.
Not this exact same razor cause this is a one of a kind stamped number 13. Maybe another selection from the world renowned Böker family.
I was strolling through the comments and thought I'd drop this tidbit--in German, final "-er" as in Böker is pronounced almost like "uh" in American English. To be really precise, your tongue should be slightly bunched as in the 'r' sound in American English and the lips every so slightly rounded such that they're squared. The first vowel in Böker is made by rounding the lips as in "oh" and moving the tongue to the position of "eh" as in the word "bay." Again, to be very precise, you would maintain the first vowel sound of "bay," taking off the vowel sound that you might associate with the 'y' being at the end of the word. All in all, "bo-kuh" is not a bad way to approximate it in American English. Certainly better than "bo-ker." Hope you found this interesting! Great video, as per usual, Geo!
bravo geo bout time a straight razor vid but i have to ask did your lady kick you out or something your not shaving in that nice bathroom no more cheers
I like to mix it up Johnny, you don't want to be looking at the same background every time.
hi, geo. when i bought the boker's straight razor. it got some oil on the blade. should i wash it out?
It's way too late now I guess, but the oil is there to prevent the blade from rusting. You don't need to wash it, just strop it before usage. After you finished your shave you can oil it again, depending on how often you use it. Even if the Damast is rustfree, it isn't a bad thing to oil the blade.
Bravo!!!!
When I shave it's NEVER this loud - is the audio compressed, or is your beard really that stiff? Mine is about as soft as the hair on my head, which makes it harder in general to get a clean shave...
Maybe I need some Damascus or Japanese steel?
try against the grain?
Asdasdasd Asdasdasd Always, that's how I need to do it. I'm just surprised by the sound for some people. Perhaps it depends on the razor too?
i think it depends on ur beard thickness
love the blade. How much does it go for?
Similar one costs about 1400 dollars. You can look it up here : www.boker.de/us/straight-razor/140600DAM.html
+nox deouroboros
I might just save up for one..
on the shavenation website you can buy one for about 1000$.
Damascus always were expensive.
They are collectables really, not a lot of people uses those to shave.
thats the same shaving cream i use
From which country/city does geofatboy come from ?
Hello World: Geofatboy comes from Chicago, Illinois, USA.
Hahah, yeah! Can I please shave with a used razor blade?
Ciao from Italy... Are going to sell that secondo hand Damascus Boker? If Yes let me know in private message! Thanks Antonio
Far Out !!!
Prison Mike?
He's best friends with the Zig-Zag Man!
Sounds like a steel brush brushing a stone. never used straight razors BTW.
fhurvhur you should try it bro...takes a few months, but I'll NEVER shave with anything else.
i know it's 4 years later but i believe he pointed mics at his face to capture the noise.
