I’ve always thought it was strange how Self Titled and RAB were made less than 2 years apart and have completely different sounds. Either way, good observation on this album! When I first listened to this album, my first favorite song was Pantaloon, but I now like almost every song on this album. Happy early 15th birthday self titled!
@@Portal2Player And then just two albums later between RAB and Blurryface their sound changed again!! But thanks I appreciate it! I like just about every song on this album too and just wanted to share that positivity!
So cool to see this video come up. I wouldn't consider myself a massive top fan, but I heard Isle of Flightless birds come up on my recommended on spotify, and was immediately hooked being a pianist and bassist myself (who wishes he could sing), and now this is one of my all time favorite albums.
i weirdly think this is one of the favorites in the community of major fans. most don’t even know it exists but the people that do love it. including me. it might be my favorite album overall. trench and clancy are high up there but there’s something so special about this album. something so raw. i think part of it has to do with the religious themes in it and my own religious struggles and peace. it will always hold a really special place in my heart :)
I couln't agree more with everything you've said. I feel like you have put into words how I feel about self-titled. You're on point about Taxi Cab, it's really an overlooked masterpiece! Great video!
I feel like my name is big enough giveaway, but I absolutely adore this album. It has some of the purest forms of music I personally have ever gotten to hear. Despite the album being nearly 15 years old, it still hits just like I remember back when I first started listening to the band. It has a spirit and vibe to it that just works so well. Tyler's voice in this album, along with the stellar piano, is something I fear we've seen less and less of as time has gone on. It's a lost talent that I feel Twenty One Pilots has kinda just moved away from as they changed as artists. I don't blame them for evolving and moving on, it's what artists and bands do. I just wish we'd bring back more piano heavy albums.
@@addictwithapen21 I 100% agree!! Trench is my favorite album by them but as I was making this video and listening to the songs on selftitled a lot, i noticed just how different the songs today sound from back then! They’ve obviously had piano driven songs, like Bandito, Leave The City, Tear In my Heart, Good Day…but not a whole album like ST or id even say Vessel was very piano heavy at its core! Im with you a return to that sound in one way or another would be cool
@@megapleb_6321Since they are done with the whole lore story i’m hoping that their next album can be just a fun album where they go back to their original roots where it was very piano driven and emotion in his voice!
I loved this video! It's very comforting seeing someone else having the same emotions i've felt the first time I heard this album and every single time i've listened to it after that. You should definitely make more videos on albums you enjoy!!
@@aksl2017 Thank you!! It’s genuinely such a good album and I just wanted more people to understand why! Im honesty probably going to start a whole channel for videos like this as it was pretty fun to make!

Great video! I got into TOP earlier this year when Next Semester came out (via the trending tab in YT T_T) and got hooked immediately. As a fairly decent but kinda mediocre pianist myself, Self Titled stuck out to me as one of my favorites because I could actually play the songs pretty easily. Addict and Implicit became two of the first TOP songs I learned, and Taxi Cab followed within the last month or two. This really only reinforced my love for these songs, and yes, I have to agree, Taxi Cab is one of their best songs ever.
@VenatorUS Hey it’s better late then never to get into them!! I got into them when Stressed Out blew up in 2016 so you’re way more valid than i am😂 But that’s honestly really cool hearing it from an actual pianists point of view! Which one is your favorite to play?
OH MY GOSH YES! I've loved this album sense the moment I listened to it and it's honestly my second favourite album by them (right after rab) I think it's SO underrated to the point where even I forget just how much I LOVE this album, it's helped me through a LOT and I love to play these songs on piano and just POUR my heart out to the lyrics while playing, and just listening in general, I find it SO HARD to restrain myself from just belting out the lyrics at the top of my lungs every time I even hear a single second of the song. Thank you SO MUCH for bringing much needed and deserved light to this AMAZING album that deserves way more credit than it gets.
@hotbutter8831 And thank YOU for this awesome comment!! It’s genuinely so cool to see how many other people love this album even more than I do!! Thank you!!
I appreciate your analysis and I totally agree. You can feel a lot of emotion in all their music, but Self-Titled is especially raw, and in my opinion all the imperfections make it more beautiful. I’m only bummed you didn’t mention March to the Sea, but I’m glad Addict with a Pen got a shoutout (my two personal favs) 😊
@@MyMøtivesAreInsane Honestly the only reason March To The Sea wasn’t mentioned is because of time. The video as is took about 2 months straight to script and record, but March To The Sea is an INCREDIBLE song and i agree with the imperfections making it more beautiful. Self Titled and No Phun Intended are amazinge works. Maybe not because the production is good but Tyler’s delivery and lyrics are so impactful, invigorating and connecting. I find myself teleporting to a world where my fears are watchers, and I can watch them scream as I’m briefly taken to a place of painful peace. A space in my mind where all becomes clear for a moment. My pain becomes transparent and I can see the solutions hiding behind it.
