The fact that Kurtis posted this video on the J Music anniversary is so heartwarming because he knew how much it means to James
Omg I didn’t even realize!!!! How sweet
This comment made me tear up
OMG i didn't even notice
seriously like hearing him mention the date and being like that's todays date!! it made me so happy
This is so sweet 😊
Music taste is subjective, but this guy is objectively awesome, authentic and very passionate. I'm not surprised how people just want to be around him.
he sounds like the lead singer to steampunk giraffes
My initial instinct was to almost feel a bit embarrassed, but the more I watched and listened, the more I grew to love him. Very few people are so truly and deeply passionate about something and it's so nice to see someone just enjoying life while being totally genuine without any shame or worry. Its absolutely infectious. We call all learn a lot from James.
it really is offputting and disturbing how people in this country like you support people with special needs who cannot sing at all. really cruel and disgusting
Lol, that’s a pretty polite way of saying that he is severely autistic.
Yesss at the beginning of the video I thought Kurtis was just gonna roast another cringey tiktoker but then his smile and his passion and his excitement really inspired me! He’s one of the few people who really enjoys what he’s doing
That's crazy to me because my first reaction was "Aww, he's so happy!" haha
I hate the adult social norm that we can't just be silly to be silly. Love that he is breaking through that barrier.
Perfectly said. Y r adults expected to be empty some shells the moment they become 1? We should be allowed to be silly and keep the child energy in us alive
Thank you thank you thank you! Coming from a 24 year old adult Lol🫶
right!!! we have GOT to be more silly!!
Silly billies unite!
Normalize being in a silly goofy mood lol
The fact that he is so himself is so refreshing. He doesn’t mask, he doesn’t pretend, he isn’t conceited. He’s humble and grateful for every person that supports him which is so beautiful. He truly is a light!
Literally a beam of light. James is great
I couldn’t have said it better. He’s so genuine, and seems so incredibly fun and kind. I would love to see how he progresses with time.

I would not be mad if you did more videos like this, where you interview and collab with other small creators that you may follow and appreciate. This was one of the most wholesome things I've seen in a while 💜
I cried a bit this video was so beautiful and wholesome, I totally agree more videos like this with small creators would be amazing
I agree, I was smiling the whole time. I just love seeing people do what they love.
Agree!!!
This guy makes me feel like I'm covered in 37 toxic, sticky layers of irony and really all of my generation is covered in it too so we barely notice it anymore.... and James is the only one that's free of it. Sincere, true, he looks so giddy talking about his music, the light is flowing from his very aura. Fucking king of all artists. He has a song called music is the way, dude.... he lives for art and just says whatever he feels because he's so pure he can afford not to hide between that sticky sarcasm goo. I'm so impressed
REEAL!! absolutely agree
My biggest takeaway from the video really. When did I get so cynical and lose that purity of passion?
the way James didn't even research who Kurtis was and agreed to show up to his house is both heartwarming and concerning
seriously like its sweet when you think abt how he doesnt care about only talking to popular content creators, but also that is so dangerous and i hope he doesnt do this again lmao

I love how Kurtis gets nervous asking him to do the collab, it's so cute because you can see how both are so excited to be there.
Let's not try to assume how people are feeling it's weird when fans overstep like this
@@nelsonwilkins347it’s called context clues. And nonverbal cues. Which people use in everyday life with anybody. Famous people are just people. If someone’s crying is safe to assume they’re sad. If they smiling or laughing they’re probably happy. It’s not weird or over stepping. Your comment is weird.
@@nelsonwilkins347 There are plenty of time where Kurtis' fans overstep and get a bit too parasocial, but this is clearly not one of those times
Lol yeah that wasn't scripted .....
@@nelsonwilkins347Okay but like… He was nervous to ask this guy. He basically stated that fact himself. There’s assuming and then there’s inferring. Assuming could be with little to no evidence or with tons of evidence. Inferring is basically “Tell me this without telling me this.”
Tell me the state you live in without telling me the state. I live in Texas’s hat. You could infer from that that I live in Oklahoma.
James has that “unafraid of haters” aspect of his personality that I really, really miss from my younger self. Something happened along the way and all of a sudden the criticism matters. It has affected my creative process so much. I hope to return to his mindset someday; it is so inspiring.
i love the fact that james definitely pushed kurtis out of his comfort zone and i hope that kurtis is more confident because of it
this video is living proof of how important it is to NOT gatekeep indie artists. i hope james knows we're all rooting for him!
Fr people think ensuring your favourite artists struggle to make a living is a sign of respect and true sympathy
yes!! he’s so cool
What needed to happen to James was the opposite of gatekeeping
Those people are usually insecure and desperate to be unique in some way, how selfish to not want your fave artists to be more successful just so you can say you're the only one who listens to them
@@honeyyb yeah exactly, we need the opposite of gatekeeping so instead of keeping him to oneself, his existence is know shared to everyone
i’m autistic and often get made fun of for being passionate about things i’m super interested in. so seeing james so unapologetically passionate about all this makes me so happy. he’s just himself and does what he wants and doesn’t care what other people think. it’s nice to see more people like him.
Seriously, I've been down lately... and honestly just seeing how passionate he is and HAPPY it just gives me a littttttle bit more hope. (:
same here, and honestly i felt a lil worried this whole thing was a prank just based on the way ppl usually treat ppl like him so it was so genuinely nice to see how incredibly supportive kurtis and everyone was of him, and like you said just seeing him be so unapologetically passionate and not giving a fuck about what others think. gave me hope bc i just feel like i have so many passions and ppl are annoyed by it. but like who cares hey, lets be ourselves
Fellow neurodivergent and this is exactly how I felt , I hope you keep pursuing your special interests
Never feel ashamed for being passionate about things you like. Do know your audience tho, people have their own interests and it isn't fair from our side of we keep blabbering about a topic they are clearly not interested in.

I love that he freely, happily admits he uses the same lyrics a lot! His attitude on creativity just pulls the rug out from under these false assumptions that everything we make has to be a masterpiece that everyone loves and applauds. James shows that when we genuinely create for the joy of creating, you get to share that joy with others, and that’s all that matters!
This is probably your best video ever. So wholesome and genuine, I ended up crying it’s so emotional to see someone so passionate and open and honest. James is so talented and he’s such an inspiration. Thank you both so much for this video, this really warmed my heart and the song is absolutely incredible!
>>I ended up crying it’s so emotional to see someone so passionate and open and honest
I know exactly what you mean. I'm autistic with an autistic partner (but we're both allistic-passing sooomewhat-- if you don't know about autism you wouldn't clock us, but trying to deal with us in any kind of emotionally intimate capacity you'd find out quickly lol) and the overwhelming difference between most people having this huge self-limitation in everything vs. my partner fucking killing it with the joy of humaning genuinely does make me tear up at times. It can be a really fun and beautiful thing to be alive and just go have fun in ordinary settings, but almost no one is willing to do it even though we're all on limited time. To the point where when someone does do it, it's taken as either huge cringe or huge charisma (depending on how conventionally attractive they are etc).

It wasn’t that long ago that neurodivergent folks being themselves online would frequently end up targets of cringe reactions or, like, bullying commentary. After this I'm definitely going to check out more of his stuff he just seems so passionate about his stuff and I love the joy and love how happy he is with what he makes just being happy and enjoying he's such a kind filed soul it seems
I fucking love how unapologetically himself he is. People can think what they want but seeing someone this passionate about something they love is wholesomely inspirational.
Yeah exactly! I feel like a lot of people that are in the public eye try to be what makes them the most famous and I'm kind of over it. It's so refreshing to see someone just be exactly the way they are and do exactly what they want to do and if it works it works and if it doesn't for other people it doesn't. I admire him for that
I can’t believe I’m actually getting emotional at how raw and real James is. He really does capture a certain type of beauty so many other fail to understand or appreciate. He has the power to teach so many other how enriching life can be, just by being yourself
"I dream in black and white when you are gone" made me instantly sob when i heard how poetic it was
I really appreciate how blunt James is about what he wants and isn’t afraid to say “no that’s wrong”. So many smaller creators let other people steamroll over their vision but he refuses to dilute himself for anyone. We need more people like that. Just raw, unfiltered, pure joy and passion
"Yeah I'm gonna delete that." I love it.
Name one creator who let someone change their style/vision? I think you're just assuming a whole bunch of bullshit.
Definitely agree, it's important to stick to what you want as a director. I did film production in college and during one of my group projects, the actors didn't want to wear wigs or style their hair for our medieval fantasy themed video, and I didn't push them on it. Then, during class, everyone in the class and the professor roasted us for the characters' hair not fitting the theme. I was so mad and kicked myself for not insisting on such an important detail. If you let things slide, people will notice.
Yo I’ve been rapping for 10 yrs. I recently made a new trac and would really appreciate someone chexit out bc everyone I show it to end up loveing it. Lmk wyt😏🔥

Reasonable skepticism honestly
I appreciate Reggie vibe checking the documentary. It’s good to see people making sure that others aren’t getting taken advantage of, especially ND people like James. That’s what community should be.
Yea I definitely got that impression as well.
No but like for real this is so important. Keeping an eye on people in your community, making sure they are not being taken advantage of. And to do it in such a soft and respectful way that Reggie did ❤ We can all learn from that!
i really didnt expect to feel so emotional watching this - as an autistic person it’s hard to find people who enjoy your joy and interests and understand you. it’s so cool seeing people going out and supporting people being themselves and feeling that passion and joy
You said this so well, same.
Autistic person here too ☺️ His passion, knowledge and focus gave me that inkling (I have no idea if he is or not). Autistic people can really be the best and make incredible things happen :D
- I’m saying this whilst having minimal self confidence and not seeing the above in myself…but still. I’d much rather surround myself with fellow Neurodivergant people. It’s a much better vibe.
I don't know whether James is Autistic or just has the same "special interest" passion that a lot of autistic people experience but I am autistic and I relate deeply to his "this is what I am meant to do. I don't care if people don't like it, because there are people who do like it and I want to share my passion with them" mindset.
There was this kid at my highschool who absolutely loved Michael Jackson, he was Autistic and MJ was his special interest. He knew all his songs, all the moves, he could answer any question about MJ. He spent all of his free time practising his dance moves and he was REALLY good at it. By 16 he was running his own business as a Michael Jackson impersonator doing gigs at parties and such. He saved all of his money to buy really high quality replica MJ clothing and if there was a uniform free day you can bet he was dressed to the nines in his Thriller outfit or some other sequinned, tasseled, leather jacket, shiny shoes and of course, one white glove and a cool hat.
He would spend recess and lunch every day practising his dancing. He did not care if people made fun of him for it and I think that his passion was so visible and so strong that no one did. Everyone thought it was neat and even people who were kind of mean were nice to this kid because he was just a super friendly guy who loved Michael Jackson and loved dancing so much and no one could even think it was weird or dumb because he was so passionate. It was actually really cool to see the respect he was given, because yes - it was strange, but he knew it was strange and didn't care. That was what he loved and everyone saw how much he loved it. I believe he is still doing MJ impersonator work to this day.
I bring him up because James reminds me a lot of him, contagious joy because he is having a great time doing what he feels that he is meant to do. His raison d'être. Even if it's a little out of the ordinary it's hard for anyone to look at him and think it's silly because he exudes passion and love for what he does.
MJ Kid was cool as heck and James is cool as heck.
I love people who are passionate, whatever their passion is I love hearing about it, seeing it and just experiencing a bit of their joy for the thing they love so much. Feels good man.
I also had the "autistic people being seen and appreciated" vibe off this video.
Me too. I definitely cried a bit during this video. It’s just so sweet.

as an autistic woman who had been masking for 17 years of her life, i'd made it a full time job to look down upon and feel embarrassed for people being themselves, because i genuinely thought that everyone, like me, was pretending to be someone they weren't, that everyone was "weird" and that it wasn't proper to let people see that. i was diagnosed last year and have come to appreciate people who are, unapologetically, just who they are, because i know that, for me, that's the single hardest thing in the world. it genuinely brought me to tears seeing james be so passionate about what he does and so unapologetically himself. i still have a lot to learn from people like him, the people i admire the most
I’m 17 too and autistic and we are so similar in this sense. It took me a long time to realise I need to love myself or who I am, and that masking stops not only ME from loving the real person inside, but also everyone else around me. I also got diagnosed really late at around 15. I was still in school at the time and it came with bullying, misunderstandings and troublesome teachers. But it’s a journey and some say it will never end, but I can say I am so so proud of everyone with SD for just being able to live their lives and wake up in the morning
I’m 26 and discovering a late autism diagnosis. This comment hits me HARD. I am learning so much about myself and learning to accept myself and others, and learning to appreciate people who are truly being themselves as I learn how to be truly myself as well.

His joy for life really is just so infectious. Like this video had me full on grinning ear to ear watching the interviews and the part about filming Darkness
Kurtis hit the nail on the head describing why James not knowing who Kurtis was made him and the video even lovelier- he really is all about passion for his work and sharing positivity. Like he would’ve done this video if Kurtis had 3 subscribers. The song sounds amazing! You both killed it. Thanks for introducing such a wholesome guy to your audience and always bringing good vibes!
He also hit number 1 on trending! 👀
@@RavenclawNimbus He's currently number 4, but that's still impressive!
@@nomoretwitterhandles I haven't even watched the video yet 😂
James's energy is infectious, I smiled the whole time watching this video. He's like the definition of the idea of "cringe but free" - he's doing what he loves and is unapologetic about it, regardless of who takes him seriously or not. It's really great seeing someone make great art and loving what they do. And his music is so whimsical and unique!

There's nothing either cool or cringe, but thinking makes it so.

Literally like life is so short and to find as much joy in it as this guy has? He's fucking won lmao 😭

I love this. Putting a spotlight on an independent artist, and making it a FULL ASS VIDEO ON YOUR MAIN CHANNEL!? Kurtis, you are the man.
I couldn't possibly be any more obsessed with your sweater.
The way James didn’t even know Kurtis was internet famous is so freaking wholesome- the WHOLE time he didn’t know he had 4 mil subscribers and all he said was “oh” LIKE STOP- THAT WAS SO ADORABLE
Ikrrrr I wanna be friends with James 😂
This may be my favourite video of yours so far and I have been a huge fan for years. I clicked expecting it to be a funny video about something weird creator on TikTok. I didn’t expect to finish the video feeling so inspired and moved by James, it made me emotional to hear his inspiring words and I admire how unapologetic he is about his passion. I am saving this video for a rainy day. Thank you for shining a light on him! ❤
You really stole my words and i love it when commentary RUclipsrs find something interesting that they really like when the internet is against it makes me feel so good
Couldn’t have said it better
I couldn't agree more! James seems to be so nice and inspiring, and you're voices sound great together! I'll definitely be saving that song :> I love how James is so passionate about music and how confident he is. I am definitely inspired 👌
Yeeeeeeeeeeeessssssss
dude james looks like the coolest guy ever, i would be his friend 100%. his music SLAPS and he’s so talented! his energy is so awesome, he just brings a light to the room he’s in. i would love to meet this guy someday, he’s so cool
im actually so happy that james is getting so much attention for his work. he has so much passion for what he does and it's so wholesome to see how excited he is to talk about what he does. love you, james
I love seeing how happy Kurtis has made the autistic community with this video. It seriously helps my sad little brain so much to see content like this
💜
I'm honestly so glad that someone like him still exists in a "cringe culture" that shames everyone for every little thing they do. One of the reasons I miss before the internet and the early internet is because people were more like this. They created because they loved it. Happy people were free to be that way without being shoved into a box as much. He's got so much self confidence to put himself out there in a world that will tear him down. He seems lovely. It makes me really feel that I lost out on my own music career because I was too afraid of other people. This was a nice watch
Yesss. As someone who is coming to terms with the possibility of neurodivergence (planning on getting tested soon), this video was so touching
We need to embrace being cringe!
Criticism is a good thing
Omg yes! This video honestly kind of opened my eyes towards what we say is "cringe" or "weird" or whatever. Because actually, cringe is often (not always) just people being who they are and enjoying themselves. It's refreshing to see someone give a shit about whether people like him or the way he is or not. Obviously not everyone will get along with you if you are just the way you are but that's fine because the people who do get along with you are exactly the people you really want to be around most of the time. It's amazing, he's really inspiring

James’s mindset is so important for anyone who wants to create anything. Very inspiring thank you!!
I couldn’t stop smiling this entire video, i could see some of myself in James and his sheer excitement for what he enjoys doing (omg especially video production!!)
Autistic adult and kurtis fan for about 9 years, this video made me so beyond happy. Thank you. Seeing someone be passionate and unashamed, and everyone around just supporting and encouraging that was so lovely. Thank you. 💛
Adding in autistic adult in for no reason 💀
@@owensks I'm pretty sure James is autistic based on his mannerisms and stuff (coming from an autistic person) so they're saying they're happy kurtis is interviewing an autistic person and not ridiculing him as many people do to people on the spectrum.
@@owensks commenting this for no reason 💀
@@owensksthe reason was “context”. Reading comprehension is a skill you can still learn if you try hard :)
@@batcat6279Yeah, even if he's not autistic, he's definitely unconventional, something I'm sure we can all relate to.
Kurtis, I want to speak from an elder stand point. You're roughly the age of my oldest (who got me into your channel) and this is the type of behavior I saw from him before he passed and his friends still.
Just unabashed, sweet curiosity for art and creativity.
This video is about more than James and I think he just serves as a perfect window to appreciating life and the media you consume. Exceptional work by every person involved.
Bonus points for the cameos by my favorite purveyor of nuggets, Jacob Andrew Sharpe and handsome dating show star Dean.
rip to your son the way you talk about him i’m sure he was a beautiful soul
I’m sorry for the loss of your son. He sounds like he was a really fun person, and may he RIP until you meet again some day. I hope you are reminded of him often until then ❤️
that’s so lovely ❤️ sorry for your loss
I'm sorry for your loss. I know if Kurtis sees this, it'll warm his heart. I hope you're doing ok. Citizens of Kurtis town need to look out for each other.
I hope kurtis sees this, because it’s a beautifully written comment. I’m sorry about the loss of your son. I’m glad that kurtis’ videos remind you of him
YOU GUYS ARE SO CUTE AARRGGHH this was exactly the uplifting video I needed to watch today! Thank you Kurtis for shining a well-deserving light on James, and thank you James for reminding me of what I love about being an artist! We do it because we wanna!!
Dude his range is crazy, the deep confidence that he’s able to reach with his voice is so satisfying when you consider his talking voice, I love it
i love seeing somebody who makes art to simply make art. worrying about monetization can really stunt creativity. i want the world to be full of artists like james.
edit: now that i’ve seen the entire video, i wanna say that james has made me feel so much better about not only my art, but about the world in general.
thank you kurt, for making such a positive video and sharing this wonderful person. james is a pretty cool dude.
Agreed, the hustle-ization of art the last few years is unfortunate
More than stunting creativity, it develops resentment. I will die on the hill of always saying NEVER make your hobby your career.
I love that! (I recently had to stop doing art for a job. I still post but now i draw stuff I want to and post if I feel like it)
This is a specific thing, but I like that he made Kurtis stay Kurtis! His first take felt very ironic, and like he was trying to be someone else, but his vocals in the final product are so Him
James is absolutely adorable and delightful and he works so hard at his passion! Truly a great guy! How could anybody NOT like this man?! James is Literally THE YES MAN! And Reggie absolutely has a gift- being a FANTASTICLY supportive friend (and I guess a seriously strong pain tolerance?😂) Reggie beugg a supportive friend is so awesome! James is so endearing and I want him to just continue following his passion and enjoying life!
Aww 😊 thank you so much!
@@jameschapeskie of course! Keep doing what you love and being a positive influence on this world❣️ 💓💗❤️
Kurtis having his joke about the house ready and being so pleased when it went down well was just so sweet.
I love it when big content creators are as excited as I would be to meet someone they’re a fan of. Being famous online for videos mainly made on your own in your house must be such a weird surreal way to be famous.
I’ve literally never heard of James before (not active on TikTok) but he obviously cares about everything he produces and it’s so nice to see his unbridled joy when he’s just being himself. This is a very sweet video and I wish there was more of this sort of stuff on the internet. Just humans fostering the creativity of fellow humans.
Very warm and fuzzy.
same! :)
This video goes so hard. I love the way that Kurtis pushes how admirable it is to do something you love regardless of if it’s loved by everyone else or not. It rocks.
James sounds a lot like Ed Wynn, the voice of the 1951 Mad Hatter and Uncle Albert from Mary Poppins. It's oddly comforting to listen to.
James easily could've been a fairly successful musician in the 60s/70s/80s, I think. I say those time periods specifically because I could see him having more success when the music industry was different. He's naturally talented, eccentric, and passionate about music, and he has so many qualities for success.
I think he still can today, I have artists I even listened to already who have a similar vibe to him and are current
FR
Outside music was big back then!!! there was a lot of experimental artists in those times that were Abel to thrive in local niche scenes before livenation bought up all the venues killing independent underground scenes.
He's a modern day David Bowie
his music reminds me of david byrne. just playing some good music
when Jacob, Dean and Kurtis did James’ dance and they were all laughing and smiling, it made my heart flutter. The way you can see the genuine joy and happiness on their faces is just so wholesome and beautiful.
co-opting as a happy stim ^u^
just guys being dudes
The songs aren’t what you would expect atleast in today’s standards yet there is something oddly catchy about it that makes me want to keep listening
ik this kind of person. he reminds me of a certain classmate i had back in art school. unapologetic creative genius. Theyre like in their own world and u just somehow want a feel of it. to be him for a day. they might not be a popular kid but when it comes to creative influence, u cant help but be swayed.
