    I loved this movie. A massive amount of empathy is shown for each character, for all their vices and faults. I think at one point or another, in the daily confusion and uncertainty of our lives, we've all felt like "the worst person in the world.” Go into this movie with an open mind! It's certainly a ride and one of the year's best.

    I guess that was what she needed to hear all along. My life story is incredibly similar to the woman in the film. I broke into tears when Askel said that, as this was exactly my ex-husbands words to me when I was going through the same situation. At that moment in the film I finally understood that my ex really meant what he said, I just didnt believe him at the time. I personally I watched the movie then I came back to watch the trailer. I’m glad I did that because the trailer gives a false idea that the movie is about a woman who cheated on her boyfriend and that’s it. for me, this movie was about the struggle of figuring yourself out and what you want to do with life and when you want to settle down and who you want to settle down with. This movie has combined different elements of filmmaking and the cinematography was outstanding. It was breathtaking. Also, it was refreshing to have a European film that was not in English and a different culture, this movie is one of those you think about after you watch for sometime 10 out of 10!

    • @toomuchinformation

    You are telling me Renate Reinsve did not deserve a best actress nomination in oscars, this year? I refuse to believe it. She deserved every bit of it. In the year of biopics, real, natural, intense and organic roles like this gets overlooked easily, I understand but look at her she was phenomenal in the movie. I guess some performances donot require any validation.

      It annoys me so much that all these prizes always go to roles in biopics. The praised acting is more about who lost/gained weight for the role, who can mimic the real person, who looks like the person. Putting some fake teeth and wig on - that’s considered good acting 😕 For example Olivia Colman this year, that is real acting. And same here with Renate.

  • @clairewaite6571
    @clairewaite6571 2 года назад +151

    I loved this film, I found it very true of the full female experience (it is raw and pretty audacious in places). I recognised so many of the conflicts when settling into a long term relationship with someone too, magnified as she is with someone 15 years older with a totally different life. It is hard when two people combine their lives, friends, families, I was struck by how little we see that in cinema.
    I am a bit surprised at people who dislike the main character, for me she was really trying to fit the older man's vision for their relationship, and losing herself along the way. Not always making brilliant decisions but understandable ones as she works out what she wants her life to look like... I'm sure we've all been there so who are we to judge! Very realistic I thought.
    I would 100% recommend and can't wait to see again.

Not thinking it would be my kind of film being a conservative American and it’s obvious liberal and feminist undertones and what not but it hit me. For me this was NOT a romantic movie, because it was not about finding that person for a happily ever after. It was about life being complicated, about the difficulties of telling the truth, let alone knowing your own truth... It's a movie about coming to terms with the fact, that as humans we don't fit into the cultural molds and narratives we have created for ourselves and we have to live with constantly falling short and not knowing what's going on adn waht to do next.

    This gets my nod for film of the year. As a man in his early 40’s who dates women in their late 20’s this film hit too close to home.
    All the circumstances and dialogue between the main characters in their relationship has happened between all older men who date younger modern women feminists who look at having children and starting a family as oppressive and limiting.
    If you are an older guy in a relationship with a younger woman don’t take her to see this film. Watch it alone. It might make things uncomfortable for you guys afterwards.

    • @MmmMulholland

      A man in his 40’s dating women in their 20’s is a HUGE red flag. Any women reading this I urge you to do the complete opposite of what OP has said and watch this movie. Share it around your friends, share it with any of your girlfriends, female family members or in online female spaces to warn younger women from dating predatory older men who wish to keep them compliant and ignorant (as the OP has suggested by not sharing said film).
      Men in their 40s have nothing to offer a woman in her 20’s. They seek control and manipulation only.

      You sound bitter. Did you watch the movie? It was him who got screwed over by the younger modern feminist woman. So wanting kids is controlling? Men in their 40’s offer nothing to women in their 20’s? How about stability, maturity, dependability. All the things needed to raise a family.
      But if you want to be a “career woman” and travel and have “experiences” (hooking up with random guys) and have dried up eggs in your late 30’s when it’s too late, don’t complain it’s men’s fault for not stepping up. You had your chance in your 20’s. Have fun choosing an ignorant beta male you despise to knock you up in your 30’s because you realized feminism lied to you about having it all and your biological clock is very finite.
      I work with plenty of these miserable career women in their late 30’s who are still childless and can’t lock down a man they respect.

      @@MmmMulholland I'm not sure why you would assume the age difference is a red flag but I wouldn't generalize that way.
      Like any relationship, it's about communicating intentions early on, regardless of what age you are.
      As for the movie, none of us have to fit into the mold of any movie characters. If watching this movie interrupts an otherwise successful relationship, then it really wasn't meant to be in the first place.

      @@MmmMulholland nice, blame successful and accomplished men for young women wanting to avoid hard work so they can wake up at 10am to go to the coffee shop before yoga with their fur baby. You do realize there are many young women who seek older and rich men so they can eventually live off alimony?

    • @MmmMulholland
      @MmmMulholland 2 года назад

      @@homersimpson5964 Women who want to do that can’t access the men unless those men allow it. No younger woman wants an older man other than to exploit him for money (while sleeping with and spending it with younger same-aged men behind his back) or if she has serious attachment issues/“daddy issues”. Both are gonna be a rough ride for the older man.
      However, most older men are NOT successful and come with a heap of ugly baggage. They’re broke and problematic and still expect young 🐱. Society should be putting the kabosh on this. This problem is being strongly highlighted in female spaces and younger women are becoming more educated on the pitfalls of dating older men. This is long overdue.

      I just read an article about why they named the film this, apparently it's a popular catch phrase in Norway - they say "Ugh, I'm the worst person in the world" if they feel they've done something wrong, haha. I think Julie as a character feels flawed often & sometimes thinks of herself as this. Hope this helps. The article is from Uproxx - "named after a catchy Norwegian phrase."

It’s an opportunity to have a sophisticated dialogue about the film, but instead you choose mostly flippant dismissiveness over actual analysis.
