A macbook do more than a phone, a phone do more than a watch, I watch do more than a ring. That’s is not about features, that’s about wearability.

I don’t see a huge market for people who don’t want a smart watch that would want a smart ring.
If you don’t want a smart watch you don’t want the charging and design they have.
So why would you want the charging and design of a smart ring? You want an oversized ring bland designed ring you have to charge?
The market for the ring, IMO, are techies who just want all the new devices with money to burn.
Because if you cared about health tracking, you’d have a smart watch already.

@@LarryJ602 I would love it, the only reason, I keep my Apple watch is for health tracking, I can charge it everyday, It's not a big deal, I put it on charge, when I go to take bath, or Toilet and that's all the charge, it usually needs. It doesn't look very good compared to a traditional watch, and I don't use 1 of the 999 apps it has. If I can get a smart ring, I would love to get it and ditch my Apple watch for a traditional time piece. I have an Apple Watch, but I don't love it. but its useful for health tracking and motivation. something that can also be done by a smart ring, But I am not going towards the Samsung Ring.

@@LarryJ602 I have an Oura ring on the same arm that I wear an Omega Speedmaster. I want to track activity and sleep track and have no interest in wearing a smartwatch. Charging a ring once a week is no big deal. I might not represent a lot of people, but there are a lot of people who refuse to wear a watch because they want to track their health. My Oura ring is no larger than a normal wedding band and does not look out of place.

The thing about rings that I find appealing is that I have never been particularly comfortable wearing a watch to sleep, and so I always end up removing my watch when I go to bed, something I feel I have to do anyway to charge it so I can use it the next day. The appeal of a smart ring to me is that it should be easier to be comfortable in more situations like in bed or while swimming. That said, I agree with you that Apple doesn't really need to release a ring or if they do, it will be as an accessory to the Apple Vision Pro, not as a health device.

Marketing a smart ring definitely wouldn't be the problem and I don't see it competing with the Apple Watch. The way i see it a ring is supposed to be a better alternative for those who don't want the bombardment of features on something which can atp compete as a mini phone. Its simpler and good for basic fitness. So yes apple could have maybe made something as simple as a ring or wrist band for people who don't want something too major for basic fitness. Shoud've been cost affective too i might add.

I have issues with my watch recording data consistently. It fails to record sometimes and will at other times have long periods between data points. Metics from the apple apps are pretty bad. Third part are better but flawed because of gapping data points. I wear a ring now for address those issues. Still where the watch for all the connected actives. Watch requires twice a day charging now vs ring once a week. I think there is a use case as the watch keeps trying to do more it has lost its ability to basic very well.

I'm in the Samsung ecosystem for most of my tech. The only real exception is for tablets as I feel iPads are much better than Android tablets. I have a Galaxy Watch, but I don't use it for health tracking. In fact, I find it annoying that I can't seem to turn off all the health app notifications that the watch wants to send me. The reason I wear a smartwatch is so I can be sure to notice phone notifications when my phone is in my pocket. I used to miss notifications, even my phone ringing if I was in a relatively loud environment. I am much more likely to notice when my watch vibrates. Even if I used my watch for it's health monitoring, I wouldn't want to wear my watch to bed. In fact, I usually take my watch off when I get home. I charge my watch overnight. I could see wearing a ring to bed, though. Maybe. I don't wear any rings now and smart rings appear to be fairly thick which might make them uncomfortable. But if I someday need something to track my sleep, I think I'd prefer a ring to wearing a watch to bed.

    -7 days battery life
measuring blood oxygen is always innacurate with reflective metering (watch) vs when you shine the light trough the finger or some other body part where u can ealisy shine trhough the light and measure it on the other side, easiest to do that on the finger, i have multiple devices and any smartwatch would show wilddly low oxygen when you sleep, while with the proper device it never goes below 90%, you can make decisions with the smart watch results, especially with sleep apnea or lung damaged condition is some other condition where blood oxygen is crucial to accuratly measure
current smartwatches needed to be charged every day, only the ultra version can do 3 days, for a 1000eur, ring can go 5-7 days

Apple is rumoured to be making a smart ring. It could even be the One More Thing announced in September too. It would make sense, as the majority of people who buy smart rings are Apple users. It’s probably the reason Samsung rushed to release an Oura Ring knockoff, hence the lawsuit. Also, looking at Samsung’s shamefully introduced knockoff Apple products, it may not be the only lawsuit, as talk about embarrassing and looking so desperate these days. 🤭🤦‍♂

I was actually intrigued by Apple making a ring because of the recent trend of them. I didn’t get any on the market because I wanted to just wait for Apple to add one to the ecosystem thinking it would be easier. After all the things you point out it wouldn’t make sense for them to make one. Oh well. 🤷🏾‍♂️

And one of the arguments is Apple is working on Apple Intelligence? So you admit they can't handle multiple projects at once. Like Samsung hasn't been working on Galaxy AI and the Ring at the same time?

Love how the discourse is around rings & battery life. Let’s see if Apple instead offers the ability to change the [blue] stand ring to an exercise snack ring. SERIOUSLY, read up on exercise snacks, it is a novel application of the ability of your 🍏⌚️to detect different exercise algorithms.

I would, a lot of commenters would. Not for Samsung's price but the apple watch needs to be charged waay too often for a fitness tracker and is too obtrusive, and imo doesn't look very good in all scenarios unlike a ring

I would like a fashionable smart bracelet to wear on my other hand. I basically does everything a smart ring or the Apple Watch does, but without a display
if you wear it with an apple watch, tracking is improved for all things, and maybe it could enable a few extra things
it would allow you to wear a fancy watch and still keep tracking your fitness
if built in with all the right sensors it could track your movement to improve Vision Pro

Guarantee you will lose the ring in no time. Even tho the ring battery will last for a week, but I think you are gonna have to keep the charging case on you. Just like your AirPods, you would want a place to put it in when you are taking it on and off.

You don't wear a ring until it's dead. You usually just put it on the charger when you shower or wake up and get ready. It doesn't need to be fully charged all the time. It just has to be kept charged.
