Here are the instructions for replacing the ribbon
1. Open bonnet
2. Remove rubber covers on window wipers. Expose nuts
3. Using a set of grips or spanner undo bolts
4. THE WINDOW WIPERS.
To remove the wipers, push down on the join and pull the wiper arm towards the engine bay and lift up. x2
5. You will see around about 8 clips holding on the plastic trim that the wiper supports come through. Remove these clips
6. Remove plastic trim, this just peels off.
7. Now you have exposed the window wiper bars and heating elements.
Take a look on the driver side and you will see a cable hanging loose and a black tab hanging from under your window.
8. Disconnect cable and cut open the opposite end to expose the cable inside. You will see small square of treated copper.
9 scrape off the silver to expose copper.
10. Get some 2.5mm stranded cable around 10 inches is enough. strip 10mm of insulation away and using a solder iron tin the end fully. Heat shrink can be added to this cable.
11. Tin with solder the exposed copper on the small square of copper.
12. If you can clamp these 2 cables together while you solder then do so as it can be tricky. If not get someone to help you.

can you please tell me how to release the black box without causing damage. does it just pull downwards?
@@williamhall6552 Mine was partly off. it slides across but i think you have to pull down on a clip at the back. If it's that hard to get off it's probably connected correctly tbh
Congratulations on not giving up and are now reeping the rewards, well done
The hfw stopped working on my kuga today, and this fixed it, you've saved me a fortune! 👌
Thank you for your informative video. I had a similar fault with my 09 plate Focus. I fixed it as follows:
As a test, I replaced the failed fuse for the righthand side screen heater. Initially the heater worked until the windscreen wipers were turned on. The driver’s side screen heater failed immediately. A clue as to the cause of the fault.
Wipers and Scuttle Panel were removed.
I found that the copper foil ribbon was in the correct position and clipped in place. The wiper actuator arm would not be able to move the copper foil ribbon.
I turned on the wipers.
I noticed that the wiper actuator arm was moving the cable harness.
After a lot of faffing with a torch and camera, I found that over a long period of time the action of the wiper actuator arm had abraded the insulation of the cable to a point where copper was visible. Each time the actuator arm reached its full extent it was shorting the cable to ground.
A design fault and poor layout of the cable harness during manufacture.
I wrapped a small piece of Gorilla Tape around the cable. (The tape is ideal of the job. The glue on this tape is very sticky and the tape itself has a very thick layer of plastic.)
There was a small tab welded to the side of the inner wing with a hole in it. Almost as if it had been intended to support the cable harness. With a couple of tie wraps I was able to pull the cable harness towards the inner wing and just far enough away from the furthest extent of the wiper actuator arm.
The wipers were tested to ensure the cable harness was no longer being moved.
New fuse fitted.
Driver’s side screen heater now works when the wipers are turned on. :-)
Rarely do I leave a comment but this video deserves it. I just removed the cover and the right-side wasn't connected. I'll just have to wait for colder weather to come to test it. Thank you!
Well done on rooting out the problem, well explained and informative despite your self doubt as to your lack of experience
Well done that man! I'm adding a heated screen to my Fiesta based kit car because I had one in a Kuga. Now I'll know what to triple check when the new screen goes on.
Good video and very easy to understand, thank you.
Whenever some dork gives bad/nasty comment/s, just ignore them.
Thanks for this video it's saved me alot of headache tablets because it's been driving me crazy.
Checked mine and it was exactly how you said, the spade connection was bent inward so hadn't slid into the female connection. I guess previous owner had been tampering fitting a dash cam or something.
Works perfectly fine now!
Awesome! Enjoy
Hello!
Can i ask the person making a video a question about the line that appears on the screen you mention before wiping the screen.
My car has several if these lines appearing when defrosting. The warranty people can't see the problem as they check it on a mild day with no ice. Can i ask did you ever solve getting rid of the lines or was there any other information you can thunk of abiut this problem?
Thanks
Man!!
God bless you. Same issue Land Rover Discovery sport...Fixed!!!
Amazing
I have volvo v40 2016, and you saved may day... Many days :D Thanks!
Will have a look on mine 👍 The big lump at top of the windscreen will house the sensor for the automatic lights and wipers
Watched both videos and excellent work. Thank you, keep up the good work. I can't understand why you would get any negative comments? Just ignore them you're doing a great job helping people.
A photo with the cover off w'd have been a good idea but TOP tips.
Yeah i forgot to add it. I'm going to make a vid soon that quickly shows how to check everything so i'll add it. I'll try drop a photo in the community tab here on youtube
I have uploaded it to the community tab
Top man been trying to sort this issue for weeks. I came across your vid and as you said the pin was disconnected. I have a 2014 ford c max titanium the plastic trims just slide apart in half to access the connector. It's a two second job. Thanks again
Awesome
That big black bit you was on about on the windscreen, like the one you test drove, is for the auto lights and wipers! The bigger black one is for auto lights, wipers, active city stop and something else! This is for the titanium x model (like mine 2016 plate) mine has the big black box there
Mine is 66 plate galaxy and has that area boxed in too. My screen isn't working at all, it had a full new windscreen because of this issue less than 2 years ago and was working fine after but has stopped 🥴
Thank you my screen was frozen now sorted
I've been following your videos for the heated windscreen as my mondeo mk5 65 plate has the same issue unfortunately didn't fix mine you make good videos though and plenty of detail keep up the good work mate 👍
Thanks a lot. Is yours not working at all?
@@stampysrandomreviews no mate no at all I've checked both fuses they seem fine and I've had my battery on charge overnight as it states in the handbook if the battery is below as certain percent it won't activate it also the method you have done I've no idea what else it could be
@@nathanbrown8279 has it ever worked?
@@stampysrandomreviews im not sure as this is my first winter with the car any little bits of mist I clear with the heater blower
@@nathanbrown8279 Take a close look at the glass. Does it have tiny little lines in when you look up close? If not it may have had a heated front screen that got broken and replaced by a non heated one
Hi Stampy, just looking at the videos for the heated windscreen. I have a 2018 kuga and the windscreen heater is not working either side. How do you remove the 2 clips on the inside beside the mirror? Thanks tim
I’ve got a triangular box up top! Will check this out tomorrow morning! I have an issue with the screen clearing in long random strips across the entire window.
Seems like your windscreen is failing. Saw pictures of it on forums, and they concluded that it was cheap aftermarket windscreen fault. If it was wiring problem, half of your screen (or all of it) would not heat at all.
Same, my car is 64 reg.
Don't have this problem (yet) but good to know thanks. I did get fogging up inside the car and it might be a sign if the leak in the rear lights. Check for damp on the rear floor of under the back seat when it's folded forwards. Basically one of both of the rear lights let water ingress behind the rear bumper and it collects on some sound proofing behind the rear bumper in a vent.
Hi mate, great video I have a Kuga 2017 I have the button inside for heated window screen but doesn’t seem to be working is it the fact mines diesel maybe take longer to warm up? I have also checked my fuse and the ones that should be in F14 and F16 for the window they don’t seem to have a fuse in, very odd! Have check the bit at the top of the screen on the inside and that’s connected fine! Any help would be great thanks 😬
Great piece of information, I'm not certain yet if mine is working as I have only had it 2 days and its not been cold enough, thanks.
Well done mate.. fully working.. good one
I have a 12 plate mk3 with exactly the same problem .. drivers side not de-frosting .. will check on this very soon .. many thanks :)
Thanks for making this ! Now have to have a look at my Galaxy.
Good luck
Worked like a charm. Thank you!
AWESOME
Hi have stumbled on this video I have same problem and when winter arrives I will be trying this out
Best thing about these is that the windscreen does not ice back up again a minute or two after you've deiced it and driven off. I see people with that problem all the time. Me included. In these conditions I'm envious of Ford owners
How did you take it apart mate? (The small black box)
How long does it take to heat a windshield and wipe the water from left to right completely? For example if the snow cover is about 1.2 inches and outside is -10*? 10 min?
Less than two minutes.
Great video can you upload youtube vids that have already been created? As jn download them from your own channel and upload at amazon
Great video stampy, I've got a 2016 focus and my passenger side isn't working, however I'm getting maybe 1 or 2 lines (where the wire will run) on the passenger side.
So slightly different to not working at all. Any help appreciated thanks.
Hey did you figured out what was the problem, my passenger side isnt working too.
I’ve got a 2014 focus and the passenger side isn’t working but the drivers side is, it leaves a line down the middle of the screen
Drivers side heated windscreen not working. Watched your video about simple fix. I found the spade at top of windscreen hanging off. Just waiting for a frost to see if issue fixed.
Hopefully it will be!
The triangle you mention is the auto wiper sensor.
Got a 2011 Focus 1.6tdci. Heated windshield not working at all...
Fuses are fine. I measured 12v at the pin just before the copper wire connection underneath the wipers. Inside the connection is fine too... light goes on but it doesn't work al all..
Lucky man he is :)
07 s-max, same fault the passenger side works perfect but drivers side dead. Just swapped the fuses over as in video one but not hopeful as they looked fine. No connectors or mysterious plastic box at top of windscreen on s-max so may get a bit more complicated will wait until screen is fogged and update
Nice video bro
Thanks AJ
Cheers Paul 🍻🍻
hi! i have the same problem on my ford fiesta titanium... unfortunately all conectros under the winshield are conected.
Let me know how it goes
@@stampysrandomreviews
i fixed it!, opening air blend actuator and level the circuit pins. all 3 pins should make contact with the gear replacement
(every single pin its for winshield air, foot air, and body air.
It must also be that when removing and put again the actuator switches the system restarts configuration maybe
I had same problem with mondeo and found that it stops working if your battery is not at it's best
Many thanks for that.
Cheers Benedict!!
