  • The final stage of getting a product to your front door is called the Last Mile Delivery.
It's not necessarily a literal mile, but instead it refers to the final stage of the entire supply chain, and it's usually as simple a van delivering the product from a local warehouse to your home.
And even though the entire process of getting it from a factory directly to you can involve cargo ships, trains, semi trucks and numerous warehouses, the Last Mile Delivery accounts for 53% of the total cost!
Is there a potential cost-cutting solution? Well McKinsey & Company are predicting we'll have mass adoption of autonomous delivery vehicles by 2026.
What do you think, is fast and free home delivery still viable in its current form, or will some new technology have to come to the rescue?

Last mile is also very important to get right as this, unlike other parts of the fulfilment process, is the part the customer will actually see.

I can see why, even if it moves a long distance, its going through very low cost locations. Moving through high density, HCOL areas are going to be $$$. Bring on the robots!

It won't be great for the labor force, but the robots are coming soon 🤖
