- Amazon has offered free two-day shipping for Prime members since 2005. As Amazon rolls out a one-day shipping guarantee for its 100 million Prime members, Amazon Flex drivers help solve the company's last mile problem. CNBC spoke to these on-demand contract workers all over the country to find out what it's really like to deliver for Amazon. Watch the video to hear about the pay, pace of work, and how Amazon Flex works.
Is Amazon Prime worth it? For many members, free shipping is a key Amazon Prime benefit that factors into their decision to pay $119 per year for the service. As Amazon starts offering Prime members the added benefit of one-day shipping they're working with on-demand contract drivers to help with this especially labor-intensive and expensive hand-delivery.
We spent a day with Omar Montes, a Flex driver in the San Francisco Bay Area. Omar helped a friend deliver around 46 packages in 3½ hours, for $105. “These are like the good days that make you want to continue doing Amazon. But, you know, there’s obviously bad days too,” Montes said.

What It's Like To Be An Amazon Flex Delivery Driver
next thing will be same day, then predictive shipping before you order
Same day delivery already exists in Amazon prime, even express delivery of 1-2 hours in some areas.
Same day is already an option on some items, or you can can pick it up at a Amazon center.
Amazon did an experiment a few years ago, they'd look at something you looked at several times and send it out and if you didn't buy it they'd re-direct it back to them prior to delivery. The pilot failed and they decided not to implement.
That sounds so cool. Like a personal loot box!
Crazy like what happened to patience.
How much money do you really make after deducting EVERY single expense?
They will lose money but for now it's about trapping you so u use their service forever not profit yet
@@tawongamunyanduri5874 He's talking about those shippers(If that's a term, idk) not the Amazon company.

And for the drivers it's obvious and it's shown in the video: Depends on where you live, and what you drive. Same as with uber/lyft.
If you're a dork who gets off on owning a 60k$ BMW and tries to pay it of by driving uber in congested area's, you're gonna be sad. If you drive the most cost efficient ~5-10yr old car and find the best area's to drive, you're gonna be happy.

If I get hurt in my job that's a write up.
What company cares for their employees? Maybe small businesses, but when they go big they figure out that caring less puts more in their pockets. Everyone complains about amazon but keep buying from it, including myself.
Yup
Ya, its called slave labor
They always claim safety is their number one priority, but if you have a large amount of parcels that need to be delivered in a big area then the driver cuts corners in the name of saving time.

@Chris Ruiz To a extent, really after you right off the gas your already maxed out so no. Also most people doing these sorts of "contracts' dont even make enough to file a 1099 in the first place.

Amazon Flex outside of big major cities is great, inside of big major cities.... not so much.
Yeah it wouldn't be great in the city at all
yeah in most big Canadian cities, parking even for 5min is a nightmare.
I did it in las vegas and it was great. I always finished at least an hour early so i technically made more than $18 an hour. Plus if thr order is for a hotel or apartment complex, most of their mail rooms sign for everything and take them all and distribute them themselves. I had a 4 hour $72 shipment, and it took me 1.5 hours because of this.
Rudie Obias not sure what city you doing but in Chicago it’s great especially doing whole food delivery. You can make 1k+ a week doing just dat
actually may be quite the opposite. If the pay is fixed, you're got distance to deliver which hurts you. That's why having density is good. Sadly, Amazon doesn't have density as we can see in Los Angeles in this video compare to FedEx and FedEx is 1/3 the size of UPS in density.
I drove for flex. Don't do it. If you live in a city with lots of traffic it's almost impossible to finish routes. You delivering in ghetto areas is a big risk to you, especially at night. It's random routes and if they give you something that is 30-40 minute drive away, u can't say no or they write u up. Downtown routes are even worse cause u can't find parking and they expect you to pay for your own parking, f that. Amazon don't care for there workers. I talk to warehouse workers all the time and they say that it's not safe and everything is rushed. Crappy pay, crappy benefits and being overworked all the time. Those people are desperate to find a paying job so they let Amazon take advantage of them.
Too bad they can't find a better job. Too bad their only use in modern society is making deliveries for others. Too bad they have no useful skills except for delivering things. Oh, well. No ones fault but their own.
@@RyuuOujiXS Kinda ironic coming from you.
Yeh now that I think about it most blocks are like in the HIGH traffic times of the day. 1pm-5pm damn parking lot delivery
No problems at all here in Phoenix. I've been delivering for 3 years now. Most 4 hour blocks I finish in 1.5 hours. Most deliveries are in the same neighborhood or office buildings. Round trip I drive at maximum 50 miles. And that's from my house to the warehouse, make deliveries and then back home.
jet052673 Well stick an apple in my mouth and ride me like a farm animal.
I agree 100% with the fact that they should at least have an Amazon labeled vest and optional Amazon Delivery magnets for the sides of their car. It would improve their perception to the public so much and it would really go a long way for very little money in the long term.
No thanks to the magnets. As a flex driver I would prefer if people didn't know I have amazon packages in my car especially in apartment complex's where I might be away from my car for 5 minutes.
As a flex driver we do got the vest but I would never put the stickers

@@popoju9 If I ever owned a company I definitely would treat workers a lot better than the corporations currently in control of our country.
Dan Sek no you wouldn’t. You would do what saves money

Just like Uber and Lyft self driving cars will one day make humans unneeded.

Was bummed when I applied for flex and was told they weren’t currently adding drivers in my area. After watching this video I see it was a blessing.
Lucky you... it would have been the worst job you ever did. You will be lucky to earn minimum wage after fuel and other deductions. In addition to high mileage, depreciation and and heavy wear and tear on your vehicle. I did it for 2 weeks and called it a day. Flipping burgers even pays better than this Amazon Flex crap. The only winners are Jeff Bezos and his cronies.

Did flex for 1 month. After calculating tax, miles driven, wait time, delivery time, gas. It became clear that I was making less than minimum wage. I already had a job and was only testing the waters. I feel sad for the people who do this out of necessity.
It’s honestly great I’m happy doing this
@@Mayam12.16 you know you gotta pay taxes on money earned?
Dude exactly!!! But some people are to stupid to look at the numbers correctly and think they made money... yea minimum wage and beating on your car
I think it depends on many factors. Like how much gas costs currently (it’s almost $2 down from last year), what your city layout looks like ( no tolls here in Kansas City) and traffic time isn’t half as bad as it is in LA or Tampa. Also take into account how much gas your car spends. For some people all of the factors are to their advantage and for others it doesn’t make them money. It all depends.
Another thing is that many things are tax deductible, such as mileage, many car expenses, insurance, phone bill, etc.
I’m an Amazon DSP driver so I drive an actual van. My hours are also guaranteed. They only let you work four day weeks normally because they don’t want to pay so much overtime. During the peak season they do let you work five day weeks and that amounts to 5-10 hours of overtime a week. Even though they usually only let you work four days a week, it is a full time job. 35 hours or more is considered full time. I usually work between 35 and 40 hours a week. The one five day week I worked during the peak season I worked eight hours of overtime. After my previous job didn’t work out I did try applying for Flex but they didn’t have open positions in my area on Long Island in NY. But it’s probably better that I didn’t get a Flex gig because I can’t put so many miles on my car.
One thing for sure:
*THEY'RE NOT FLEXING TO WORK*

They should be happy they even have a good job, if not quit and get another job😆😆😆
I didn't know that Amazon employed these contract drivers until recently. I was wondering why dudes in sketchy white vans and random cars came up on my driveway and delivered my stuff. xD
Calvin Dang yup that’s us!😂
Marlin R won’t be for long. I’ve seen several test drones already
You’re dumb lol w no offense and I say this joking around haha. But drones won’t be able to replace us. Delivering packages is super easy but w Amazon’s system it won’t be possible lol trust me. They have a lot of flaws lol
Marlin R they’ve got drones that can climb stairs and fly in right corridors. Yes humans will be doing those crazy apartments for a long time but there won’t be any humans in neighborhoods doing this within 4-5 years
Unless you deliver full time then you won’t understand. Maybe 10 years from now..
As long as these drivers continue to make deliveries for Amazon nothing will change, even with all of their complaints. Amazon knows this too.
“My vehicle got stuck, can you help me?”
“No, can you finish the delivery?”
“Yea, I just finished them all right now. They were delivered to the middle of this muddy driveway in the middle of some random person’s property.”
That's what AAA is for.
Amazon can't help when no common sense. Drive into mud; get stuck. All I hear is a bunch of whining from childish adults. Flex or don't Flex; nobody is holding a gun to your head.
Wayne Fairley they get written up for not taking a given route they know they can’t handle. Even still, they may not know a route contains a bad road for their vehicle. Simple fixes, by Amazon, could eliminate this. Amazon doesn’t take into account that a person is driving a 2wheel drive Prius when it gives a route down a muddy slope, yet penalized people for not taking a route and still expects them to complete each route even if they can’t handle it.
It’s not a literal gun to their head, just a legal and financial one. People who drive Uber/etc, don’t often do it for fun. They do it because they need cash bad and Amazon takes advantage of that by telling people in a car that isn’t up to par to go down a road their car can’t handle. Every driver I know for Uber is a person desperate to make rent AFTER their job, this is no different except it penalizes people for trying to use their common sense. Those packages aren’t delivered or refused? They get a write up.
Yes I used them to get my vehicle unstuck there might be some losses to product, but thanks for your help
That prob wasnt amazon, it was just a random person on the phone who works there. My old boss was the same way when I delivered pizza. A coworker got into a wreck and the first thing my boss asked him was did he finish his delivery? Later down the road that boss was transferred and we got a new manager. Someone got a flat tire and this manager dropped everything and left the store to go help that person. Its not the company.. Its management.
Amazon: We offer $18-$25 an hour
Flex Driver: 36 miles and I have to cover my expenses? No thank you, next.
Amazon: Thats a write up.
Flex Driver: .. but you're hurting my pocket if I take that route.
Amazon: .... thats another write up.
😂🤣
That's 36 miles one way, and slow highways, I used to live here! We are already at 72 miles, now he has to drive around to drop everything off, 100 miles total and pay a $6 bridge toll, if he writes off by the mile his right off will be close to or possibly above his pay!
And you have to do 20 more routes to get it off your record lol
Keep complaining and drones will take these jobs. Then you can sit at home on your sofa and complain you don't have a job.
@@TeachAManToAngle Amazon wants to use drones anyway, they don't care if the drivers are happy or not lol they're the most replaceable part of the company
This is just a bandaid operation till they can get drones to work, then they won’t need as many drivers.
@mr fantastic Moron steals your package? Can happen anyway, you'll get your payment back, amazon will lose some. Crashing into cars? Yeeah that is what they are trying to solve
@mr fantastic First: they will fly on their own and no driver will fly them. It's stupid to have a human controller as it will again not save any cost.
Second: You can't shoot drones and steal the packages. I mean who is stopping you rightnow to shoot the delivery guy and steal the packages. Both of them will be considered a serious offense and only thief and thugs will try to do that and most likely get caught too. That's just plain stealing sir.
And Last: they won't crash, do you travel in airplanes ? do they crash everyday on your house or in your city? Today's technology is way more advanced then you think and they for sure will have small parachutes for your windshield, just in case.
Don't think you are the smartest guy and people investing billions with years of experience in tech and management are dumb. When one product is made it is made by taking all these silly things in consideration. These things that you are talking about is not even the main challange.
Main challenges are like reduction of cost and not what your stupid mind things.
agreed, perhaps better to spend your time to learn about drone tech or coding for algorithms.
I actually work at the number 1 Amazon delivery warehouse and from what I've seen Amazon is always hiring new flex drivers so they just have this pool of people and now it's less flex and more Amazon van routes so no drones anytime soon lol
How would it work? Like will it need it own Amazon ATC?
The most important thing that should be on everyone's mind currently should be to invest in different sources of income that doesn't depend on the government. Especially with the current economic crisis around the word. This is still a good time to invest in various stocks, Gold, silver and digital currencies.
That's so true. but if i may ask, do you trade all by yourself?
*ROCHELLE DUNGCA-SCHREIBER,* that's her official page name you can do a web search to get in touch with her
Now I understand why flex drivers leave my packages on random door steps and should they make it to my actual apartment I realize why they never knock.
@Josiah Gringo exactly☝️ people don't understand that
amazon doesn't care about its third party sellers, low-level employees, or their drivers. they are labeled independent contractors and yet are told how many packages, route and time to complete only when they show up but if they refused they are written up with a possibility of being fired. you're not allowed a break or time to even use the toilet in the time alloted. so are they an employee or independent contractor?
Labeling them as "Independent Contractors" also prevents them from forming a Union, since Independant Contractors aren't allowed to form Unions under CA law

More money! 3-5$ per package
I was told the computer generates how many packages and the time it takes?
In Delaware, I've done a 3 and a half hours route with almost 40 packages. I still got done before the route. There's many whom actually stop during the route simply because they weren't prepared!
All I know is that most times, regardless of the length of my route, I'm generally home before the route ends. It's absolutely amazing!
With the gas and wear/tear on your car. I don't think it's worth it. The same thing with Uber and Lyft.
It's good to get a beater for something like Flex. That way you don't put all the weather and tear on your primary vehicle.
Mr. Cairo still not worth it. By the time you make your money back with 35$ profit of the day. Because you would need like 30$ of gas.

@@Jonathan-tb6fm its worth it if u know what u doing
You have to run this like a business. Don't drive your late-model sedan. Get the cheapest reliable car you can. Use it ONLY for this business. Keep copious records on gas, maintenance, parts repairs, tolls, etc. At the end of the year you should be able to deduct enough that you show minimal profit, if any. Businesses pay taxes on PROFIT, not INCOME. You could make, say, $30k but have $28k in deductions. You're taxed on the $2k "profit".
Amazon is absolutely taking advantage of people with this service!

Nobody from this Flex job was forced to do it ...so if they dont like it they should just not do it ey
A sustained one-day delivery network is a pipedream on Amazon's part. Amazon only has 1/10 of Walmart's nationwide distribution, shipping, and logistics network. And Walmart's system of having the customer to order online and come to the store for the same or next day pickup is working.
Yeah, drive 35 miles in traffic and deliver 45 packages in 3 hours...he figured out real quick it would take 4-5 hours and half a tank of gas at Cali prices and he didn't wanna work for almost nothing

My two cents on delivering in Portland.1) 1st day-no help in warehouse. told them I was new. some packages not scanning well. wasn't sure what bar code to scan. felt rushed. left without my "paper". told them on the way out. no help. said I do not need it.
2) Packages were not marked as to deliver this 1st, 2nd according to route. could only see address and not familiar with city. Assigned a 3 hr block 5p to 8p.
3) started at 5p. left warehouse at 530p. took 30 mins to deliver 1st package. commute traffic was horrific. then multiple luxury apts that were closed and locked after 6p. customer not responding or name on apt list was missing.
4) map on flex app took me to different areas where the freeways were close together. lost 30 mins because of that. again, terrible traffic. Otherwise flex app was pretty good.
5) because I could not organize my packages I had to dig for every package. nightmare. late at night. no flashlight.
6) finally at 8p I was able to start delivering to houses or easy access apts but cutoff is about 930p and the app that I was using just disappeared as I was taking a picture of a drop off.
7) still had 4 packages to deliver but had to return them back at station at 10p.
8) So my 1st 3 hr block lasted 5 hours and I was unable to deliver the last 4 packages.
9) So..BYE BYE Amazon flex for package delivery. will try Instant offers..but mostly will stick to Door Dash where I know the area and not feel so rushed with less wear and tear on my car
Do you not think there might be something wrong with your society when you approach someone's house and worry you might get shot?
there are analysts that advise against taking that Amazon offer to start your own business. They are specifically targeting people who have no experience who have no idea about the expenses that they are going to incur as they follow this unprofitable business model
the main issue is getting deactivated. you can do everything right and still get deactivated. if you're doing this for a living, that can literally make you homeless without it ever being your fault. that would never happen in the wage industry since you could get unemployment benefits while trying to find new work.
not worth it at all. seems a lot of people just weigh in gas and time but dont really think about how expensive maintenance costs really is. factor in kms, brakes, oil changes, you're essentially using your vehicle as a credit card (have money now, pay for it later) this goes with uber, uber eats etc
depends on what you drive, if you have a new car then no. If you get a used well maintained Toyota Corolla with 100K+ millage, it has already gone through kms depreciation, Corolla maintenance is also dirt cheap, so you can basically use it until 300K until it breaks for a very low cost. TLDR: look for a good condition used Corolla
@@woshikakadong you're right about how it would have gone through the bulk of its depreciation but lets use real numbers to get a better understanding;
Lets use their example of $105 to deliver 46 packages in 3.5hrs. And thats on a GOOD day.
Now lets make it $210 for 92 packages in 7hrs to replicate a typical work day. If you were to work 5 days a week you'd be making $54,390 in a year. Keep in mind you're not eligible for any work benefits or the fact that you don't receive any holiday pay. Now you might be saying hey at least I'm only working 7hrs instead of 8 but employers are obligated to pay for up to 30mins worth of breaks.
I live in Canada and minimum wage is $15. Converted to USD is about $11.5/hr
The cost of your time itself is $92/day or $23,830/yr if you we're just to work minimum wage
*Note distance will be measured in metric but costs converted back into USD*
Okay now the fun stuff: Car maintenance and depreciation!
On average you drive about 20km a year. Using the example in the video the area the packages were to be delivered was 36 miles away or 60km away in 3 hours. During a normal work day thats more like 120km. That only gets you to the area you need to be so lets say 500m per 1 package now you're looking at 165km a day
So in 1 year you would rack up roughly 42,735km on your car in just delivering packages.
Oil changes cost $20/10000km so $80/yr and you've already went through more than half the lifespan of your tires and brakes not including your rotors.
Gas lets say its $27/500km so $2310yr.
On kijiji a 2009 Corolla with 118km is $5000 so it would last you roughly 4 years assuming it doesn't breakdown before your estimated 300km and assuming you're only using it to deliver amazon packages but chances are the majority of people who do this, probably don't have the funds for another vehicle so it'd probably last you 3.
So time@$23,830+oil change@$80+gas@2310=$26,220
Now you might be thinking well damn I'd still be making $25k more doing this then working but keep in mind these numbers are very reserved and are perfect scenarios. The reality is that $52k is based on a good day and for the vast majority of days you'll most likely be taking a loss since you don't know your schedule until you get to the actual fulfillment center. Factor in take the time and money you'd have to frequently do maintenance (waiting for an oil change, the pain of changing tires, brakes, rotors assuming you know how to do all these things yourself) the high likely hood that your car probably won't last 300k and you're more prone to be involved in a accident for driving that much its not worth it at all. Because I hope for the large majority of people on here - that they're not just working minimum wage.
@@johnt8814 i think thats mostly because Canada has a extremely high minimum wage of 15/h, im a computer science student at UofT, most student graduate getting paid around 17/h for their first job while having huge amount of student loan, for a lot of people uber/amazon may be the better option
@@woshikakadong I can totally see why it can be attractive for people earning lower income, but I really want to stress that Amazon, Uber/ubereats really isn't worth it.
They simply created a pay scale that is just high enough to have people do it but low enough to make the most money out of it. But if you actually put in the real life costs and probability of your vehicle breaking down you'll be working for free at times. If you were to ask someone "do you think you'll live long?" Chances are they'll overestimate how much that figure that really is. Just like what you've done with "corollas able to make it to 300km“ like sure they can, but most of them won't. And with you being pressured to make deadlines chances are you won't be driving it economically which hurts gas mileage and the longevity of your car. I'm just saying this as a cautionary warning.
he got written up for refusing a route that is not worth it for him? yikes, yeah not for me, I'm just looking for a fun side hustle

I'm a Fedex Express Courier, and it's very sad to see these people being taken advantage of. Amazon is currently attempting to cut out UPS Postal and Fedex. They're breaking a lot of eggs to make that omelette, and it will come back to hurt them.
Nah... Amazon will put them out of business than go back to 2 day or slower when they control the market.
Fedex got cut out recently and they switched to UPS.
The main reason Amazon want to contract out all this last-mile delivery is that it gets the most expensive part of delivery off their books and puts those costs on to their new "business" partners, who, as small businesses, can't take advantage of economies of scale, and may be taking the losses that Amazon is avoiding through this arrangement. Sweet deal for Amazon. Not clear whether the drivers make out so well on average.
Within the next 4-5 years, drones will deliver to those extra last few miles from the nearby Amazon hub to a specific locality in bulk. Flex driver will just distribute those packages to his locality. No long driving from nearby Amazon hub to the locality. But using a drone to deliver to the individual household may not work.
Amazon leading the charge in switching from employees to contractors to do business. This feels like a dangerous shift for the general population.
How so?
Yesa, by using contractors,
Amazon removes the burdens that many corporate entities MUST under law, shoulder.
But in that, I DO NOT WORK for Amazon, but for the company CONTRACTED to Amazon.
In that, my company has protections, therefore shielding me from some of the "negative" examples of Amazon/employee interactions.
@@yes100yessireebob6 Those burdens are what give people health insurance, protection from unwarranted firing, retirement plans, and more favorable tax situations. Since the vast vast majority of people are workers not business owners, that's a big problem.
@@Tron08 That's not Amazon's problem though. People sign up and know what they're getting themselves into. There's nothing hidden.
@@willn8664 You are correct it is not Amazon's problem, it is in fact the worker's problem. The whole reason they've decided to go that route is it is cheaper and, in my opinion, borderline exploitative. USA where people decide that they can do stuff cheaper for big companies than any real competition could. Sounds right.
Well, they can, because they can choose not to insure themselves for all kinds of stuff, they dont need safety plans for themselves etc. And in this case, they can keep the costs down a lot by driving old cars. (and while maybe counting repairs as a cost, not counting the time to deal with that kind of things as a cost)
So basically its a way for the big companies to cut the cost by having the workers be self employed.
Until automation takes over, last mile is cheaper. The post office was heavily subsidized, and still is internationally, but domestically? The real costs are being passed on now.
@@antondegroot6061 they maybe could keep costs down this way yes, but mostly by sacrificing their own safety. Also not insuring yourself might save money in the short tearm, but the second they get a non minor injury they are screwed.
And to be honest. I don't think that most people that do this are clever enough to beforehand invest in a cheap old car to only use it for their deliveries. Most probably don't even have the money laying around to do so and just use the family car.

It really terrifies me how these big companies are juicing the common people for profit. No insurance no tax no healthcare no nothing and yet get big profit from it
I employed newspaper contractors in california in exactly the same manner for 32 years. I paid a flat rate daily deliver fee based on the # deliveries. I even paid a bonus for correctly completed deliveries. I found that this was the best way to get my deliveries done on a timely basis. I tried many other methods and found that the workers always found a way to circumvent the delivery and fail to make each delivery while still collecting their income. During deliver time I found them in restaurants, donut shops, bathrooms, home, sleeping in their cars and many other locations that prevented them from completing their jobs. The average work time was 2 hrs. per day which could be completed in 1.5 hrs. I felt like a baby sitter that was constantly having to supervise their every action to get the job done.
No one wants a job thats hard. People forget the American dream is fueled off a bit of edge.
Really stupid idea Amazon. I live in a gated community and now that you rarely use Fedex or UPS, but these drivers instead, they are not allowed in the community. That's what i was thinking the whole time these contractors were complaining. But that's the problem with these zero skill contract jobs (uber, flex, doordash). People with no qualifications have to learn the hard way about how to do the job. And they don't always learn the correct practices.

$72 for a 4hrs block! 14:30 to 18:30, 41 packages, 39 locations. That's $18/hr. Looks fair, but its NOT, 4hrs turned to be almost 5hrs. GPS is too slow and in most cases took me around in circles between drops within the same neighborhood.
Last drop was 1hr 36 minutes away from my house. Spent around $22 on gas. (72-22=50) I end up making less than $10 an hour. (Taxes and vehicle wear-tear not factored).
In reality, from 11:00am I was constantly watching and refreshing the app to see if the rates will increase, couldn't sign up for other gigs; the hours may overlap. The route was 70% rural un-tarmacked roads with drops 2-3 miles apart some even 9 miles.
I left my house at 1:30pm returned shortly after 9:00pm, with less than $50 and a dusty hurting car from the beat up roads and constant hard braking due to a slow GPS.

Well actually it would be logical to expect the average price per package to go down with more total packages rather than up because it's in bulk
Anyone who thinks this is a bad business practice should be appalled by the the dine-in restaurant industry. Amazon Flex, Lyft, and Uber clearly tell you that you're just a contractor - *not an employee* , and allow you to work at any time of the day, whenever you want to. Somehow, restaurants pay *below minimum wage* at $2.13 an hour(a legal loophole), *tips are not guaranteed* and *tables to serve are not guaranteed*. Even if you are not making any money, you are required to work the schedule and hours given to you. Also, most waiters are also required to pay a percentage of their tips to bussers and bartenders to compensate the employer's lack of compensation. Amazon Flex is a dream job for a side-hustler or a college student, stop trying to turn part-time jobs into full-time jobs.
employers are required to make up the difference if servers dont average min wage
Maybe waitiers should be paid 20cents per delivery to the table, gig economy style
just because theres something worse doesn't mean that it is good
RetosBeats The point is that there are jobs where you are actually employed with worst pay and more uncertain conditions than this contract job where you are not employed. These people who work at Amazon Flex and are complaining about the uncertainty and expenses of their job have the option of full time employment with UPS, USPS, or FedEx with competitive wages. However they keep working at Amazon anyways because the pay is too good and the job is too easy.
My state pays service workers actual minimum wage and everyone tips like normal.
I understand Amazon and consumers wanting next day packages, but the amount of extra expense AND the amount of extra gas being burned to do it is crazy. With 3 day delivery, the ' blocks ' would be much more condensed, and a full car load of packages might only involve driving a couple miles.
So this is why my packages come at 9 or 10 at night instead of noon like from USPS or UPS
Because Amazon dispatches late...and Flex goes even later, with most routes being picked up after 5pm
Usually with my packages it goes between 11 am to 12 pm.

AMAZON is a CROOK.
How hard is it for a Computer to Re-Organize the delivery/packages and Allocate it according to the Drivers' Suburban Residency.
Example: if Driver X lives in Suburb Z, the computer should allocate packages going to Suburb Z for Driver X.
