    You used in this caparison NLS Channel preamp plugins but if I remember correct, Jaycen Joshua used NLS Bus amplifier plugins.

      Thanks for the info, but does that really make a difference? I’ve seen probably every video covering this topic, and the results were as negligible.
      I’ll further investigate if the two plugins react differently since only drive and console type are involved.

      he does and he also adjust the trim a bit and added .5 to the drives because of the additional level that is added after adding 8 NSL busses on a 'drum bus'. Steve Hybicki was the originator of this, and it's so funny the engineer with no actual school training come up with the most interesting way to create different sonics/vibes. (:

      You can check the new video with me further investigating it. I actually found out that Joshua in the livestream didn’t even touch the knobs at all, that’s something I captured from other videos talking about it.

      @@beat_spot On mixingwiththemaster I thought was the first time I saw this technique with Jaycen doing it, (Mixing 'Yo x Ti, Tu x Mi' by Rosalía ft. Ozuna with Jaycen Joshua) He does adjust the trim knob to fix the song. but he does have about two-three free videos he mentions it as well.

    second he parallels it

    You made a MISTAKE on your chain ,only the 1st NLS is at 0.5 db !!!

      Hi, thanks for pointing it out. I actually made another video testing the actual settings.

    you guys need to pay attention to the actual technique which is done in conjunction with Heat in Pro Tools... I really dont think you are getting any benefit from this chain in a daw like Ableton..

    • @beat_spot
      @beat_spot  20 дней назад

      we can discuss about a gazillion details, the technique is still hella convoluted just to get a result you can achieve in a much simpler way

    • @cmdrsquiddy

      @@beat_spot i hear that for sure! Im just saying that for this one technique he describes using Heat in "Pre" and tuning the Gain + Tone to taste... so unless you are also utilizing a software that does what Heat does then i don't know if you're fully able to recreate his chain and sound. His "Subwoofer" and "Low Air" sends are really dope and i use a lot of similar techniques that he does with multi-band compression. Heat has a major effect on the overall level, width and tone of the mix though... so it changes everything

    • @cmdrsquiddy
      @cmdrsquiddy 4 дня назад

      @@beat_spot and yes absolutely you can get a great sound and emulate similar techniques in a number of ways! I was trained on tape and analog as well as digital! I use ableton a lot but when it come
      to mixing i find that pro tools delay compensation and processing management paired with avid hardware allows me to push my system harder than any other software and achieve a great, if not superior sound compared to my other daws. however when it comes to sequencing and sound design nothing really beats Ableton and i use it all the time

      @cmdrsquiddy luckily, I’ve read about the new Orion plugin that should do the whole drum buss treatment, including this thing too.
      If that technique becomes easier to apply, I’m welcoming it with arms wide open.
      I’m definitely testing it when it’s out.

    I tried it yesterday on my mix and other group busses and it sounded terrible, messing up the complete sound .thanks for explaining

    is this just like stacking ott?

    • @beat_spot
      @beat_spot  Год назад +2

      Not at all, stacking OTTs, besides being aggressive, introduces phase problems at the frequency crossovers, but that’s something I still hugely recommend doing for sound design, especially with bass-heavy music.
      The effect of this is more subtle, so subtle that in fact I don’t see the value in bothering so much with all this setup.

    awesome video analysis on this, not a lot of people try to find out why this works, I will listen to this on my audeze when I get home

      @@beat_spot I will for sure! Jaycen has taught me a lot and Luca P. especially on our 1 on 1 mixing sessions. So i'm really curious to truly hear what you were hearing in a better environment then where I am now lol

      @@beat_spotso I got a chance to listen to it on 3 different sound sources. There are differences with the sound for sure, but I will say that what is in commercial pop, folk, hiphop, and even country do not follow the ‘make the low frequency image width zero. I know about the vinyl history and even what some engineers promote but if you get some of the hottest tracks you will notice that the bass and synth basses don’t always follow this rule and my conclusion to that is because it ‘feels better’. I’ve been technical for so long that I had started to forget why I listened to music in the first place and so I went on this journey to get the ‘feels’ back. Do I personally like to know what the plugins are doing Yes, maybe it’s just to see if I could get it with 1 plugin instead of 8. But we need a constant reminder that we need to knock out the technical stuff first then get to the feels as soon as possible to make the best music possible.
      Love the content, look forward to more in the future. 🙌🏾

      @Dane_Riazer thanks for coming back, I indeed agree with the wide low end thing but when it comes to bass sounds, I’m not a fan of that when it’s on kick drums.
      However, Ozone Imager allows widening low end in a safer way.

    • @Dane_Riazer
      @Dane_Riazer Год назад

      @@beat_spot for sure! StageOne 2 and Space control are so cool for width phase control, but I do enjoy ozone imager, I find myself always bringing the image on the low end down to -60 with respect to the bass jajajaja. Do you have a favorite compressor this year? I know that can change over time

    Jaycen only uses it for certain songs and it’s a nice lil saturation thickness to add to some songs not all and it was something he noticed from a clients session of how it add the thickness to that song plus it’s more to his kicks then just that.

    • @beat_spot
      @beat_spot  11 месяцев назад

      yeah, that's why I stated that it's a highly situational technique. If you can quickly drop it on your master and AB it, then it's worth that couple of clicks.
