It's amazing how fresh and modern this 1966 recording still sounds today! I'm also from 1966, and have significantly more signs of age than this piece 🙂
RIP Ramsey. My favorite Ramsey Lewis song.
I used to dance to this wonderful tune having ridden my Lambretta SX 200 to Northern Soul events across the North of England.
I then became a teacher and prepared my students for university.
Later in my career I was lion taming scallies in inner city Liverpool and was privileged to be best man at one of my lad’s wedding as he made a success of his life. Unfortunately I stood at the graveside of one of my lads who was out of reach and took 8 bullets to the chest.
I am now 68 years of age and recovering from surgery for cancer but wonderful music like this still provides the soundtrack to my life.
Hope you are recovering. Loved reading your memories ❤️
Music is the balm of the soul sir. Stay safe.
Bless you..
@@brendabarber7459 thank you so much, Brenda. The blood test results are good but anyone in my position is like the guy falling from the Empire State Building. When he reaches the 63rd floor he thinks, “So far so good.” 😂😂😂
@@henrysmithers2648 thanks, Henry 👍
as a 73 year old music lover & vinyl DJ I have used this this epic tune as an intro tune many tunes, always gets the feet tapping.
Best instrumental piece of music ever.x
True classic, in the US you say gospel but we in the UK always saw this as soul and soul of the highest calibre, it was a massive hit in the clubs and discos.
Heaven is dancing to this today, RIP Ramsey
Our 1972 high school choir sung and recorded this wonderful spiritual song. Beautiful!
I'm 64and can't help getting up and dancing
Remember all those sweaty club nights that never ended?
Running for the last bus...
I am 76 and remember this music very well!!!

We owned this original 45 at home back in 1966. And “Side B” is the Marvin Gaye hit, “Ain’t That Peculiar”.
RIP to a class act in every way.
51 years on and still a cool tune
I love this and it took me through my teens and its still fab at 66!
I was lucky enough to be a regular at Twisted Wheel from 1965 to 1969.
There were some amazing Soul and Motown tunes played that went on to form the basis of 'Northern Soul' But Jazz classic Wade in the Water by Ramsey Lewis was the best instrumental record to dance to EVER! I'm now 72 with a touch of arthritus but will always hit the floor when l hear those opening bars.
God Bless Ramsey Lewis 💖
Never went to the TW , did they have live acts on there ?
who cares
Brill tune. Those were happy carefree days. Hadnt even heard of arthritis back then lol ;)
Just found out RIP Ramsey - has to be one of the greatest instrumentals of all time - always a floorfiller👍👍👍👍
Could listen to this all day..absolute classic.
This song has a place as a memorable warm up tune for the St. Bonaventure Basketball team. It will always have a place in my heart for that, and it's a great tune!
Still sounds as good today ..danced my legs off to this at n/s events
Another great piece of bygone music, never to be forgotten xx
This has been used for more than 30 years as an intro for a German language radio newscast ('Berichte von heute') on station WDR2. And it's still being used. It's a classic.
tgoettgens jop, gerade im ndr gehört, war wahrscheinlich teil der ard-hitnacht. schnell shazam benutzt und nun hier in gänze angehört.
Awesome tune. Always been a favorite since it came out.
When this record was played at our local youth club (UK) more than 40 years ago, it was one of my favorites. Never knew - until today - that it is a spiritual song. It certainly holds up after all these years!
I was in Shirebrook, Derbyshire
***** just a few miles away! ;)
Played all over NOE at soul clubs n select discos in 70's , eg.... road runner at Aston hall cc , broken wheel at retford , charade at rotherham , attic at donny , up n up and lbj in rotherham, shades in deedahland , binlid at dewsbury and many others
Mine, too. Love it
My parents and I went on vacation over the summer, and on the way back home I was listening to this almost non stop on the plane. This song is really good for a long flight. I don’t know why.

This recording was the theme song for the Hessischer Rundfunk reports from the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt during the 1970s and 1980s.

I remember grooving along to this in the early seventies when it was played at discos and parties. It was the best funkiest dance jazz arrangement I know. .
Bricomalingo almost every time I look for a sound clip from the northern soul sales groups or discogs you're the one who's got it. You're like the Batman of soul collectors. Thanks for posting all this. Ktf mate.

Good call.
Venture out boldly. Test the water. Unless you did your toe into it you'll never know whether it's hot or cold. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
