Clarification to prevent over-hype: While "TF2 Mod Support Initiative" has gathered a lot of modders together and they work as a group to communicate with Valve, we haven't heard back from Valve since their initial email. The Initiative has sent an email to Valve a week ago, but no response so far. So, don't bee _too excited_ - it can very well lead to nowhere because it's Valve.
I think we should keep a payment fee for large mods like these. They cannot keep files that are equivelent to most indie games just for free. Smaller mods like weapon skins, scripts or maps should be free like now since they are a few megabytes. Obviously its better for me, and every other modder to make big mods for free but valve cannot magically pull out a storage drive for free and ignore electricity bills and even the maintance fees for the employees to take care of them. After that i fully agree something like this should definetly be included on steam and i think this is the best possible time since steam is competing with epic games. Imagine that your favorite game now can have a brand new feeling in a span of a few clicks by downloading a major mod for it. Definetly gets your attention. Just think about the halo mod for csgo, tf2classic or open fortress for tf2, campaign mods for half life, doom wads like brutal doom (or hdoom 😳),fiveM server assets for gta v and muuuuch much more After that it is entirely possible. The nexus launcher can help you install a giant refreshing new expirience for your fallout game or just any supported game on their list. The nexus launcher is a way smaller team of people with a wayyyy, wayy too many smaller budget compared to valve. Imagine now a multi billion company capable of doing everything making their own kind of mod launcher like nexus. It would definetly be much more flexible and capable of higher download speeds because of steam having its servers centered everywhere. At the end i really love your prespective so far on your suggestions on stuff like these. Keep up making videos about them because they are straight up enjoyable lol
Having a storefront page for a *paid* mod would be decent solution I'd think. As you've said, the line between what's a mod and what's a new game within someone else's intellectual property gets blurry the bigger the mod gets. But I'd imagine the bigger the mod/game gets, the bigger attention forms around it.
