I expected negative volume to sound like positive volume, but have mirrored wave so playing it together with normal music at exactly the same time would make it quieter due to destructive interference rather than louder due to constructive interference. I hadn't paid attention to how exactly it handles volume

That "music toning down" when you clicked the buttons I've noticed before. If you give yourself a flight 127 rocket with maaany explosions, spam them with an elytra and then land, it's so loud it completely deafens my entire computer for roughly one second

There's a bug within OBS that makes it so sounds above (what I assume to be 255 decibels) suddenly gets muted, likely due to the audio buffer being overwhelmed in some way.
You sure the issue was OBS? I looked this up. Found plenty of people saying thus happened, but it was always due to their mic or sound card. There's an OBS *limiter* which you can configure to prevent streamers from deafening their audiences, but that's just auto-gain control, and it's a feature, not a bug.

It seems that behind the scenes, the audio coming from minecraft is being sent through a "Limiter", an Effect that normalizes the sound at peak by taking average volume over time and scaling it back down;
If it was turned off somehow, it would hardclip instead (meaning anything over the maximum peak just stays at the maximum peak) , causing the "Deep-Fried" effect instead
also hoping to see you find ways to break the way flowing blocks update (water/lava); would be funny to see what you can come up with

The sound isn't stopping or choppy at any point. It's just that it becomes so loud we physically cannot hear some of it.
I think it's rather that our speakers can't process it, the computer can't process it, the program can't process/properly store the volume, or it's RUclips's compression
