I want to say they sort of did that for the new Mortal Kombat game; one person did the martial arts mocap, another did the voice and facial movements, and they used thr likeness of a model. It still looks like a videogame, but it's a big step in the right direction.

Not sure if you'd be interested in this as a story idea, but here's the pitch... It's about _"The Fake Zombies"._ Now, before you click away because of the ubiquitous era of putting zombies in everything... this is about the band _The Zombies,_ not literal (monster) zombies. And, I should mention, this is my absolute favorite rock and roll band "origin" stories. Here are the highlights:
_The Zombies_ were founded in 1962 and, over the years, wrote several big hits, "Tell Her No"... "Time of the Season"... "She's Not There", etc. However, nobody in England seemed to care about any of their music. So, after several years without any major chart success, they disbanded and moved on to other musical opportunities. Meanwhile, in the U.S., _The Zombies_ hit the big time and were suddenly in demand. The only problem was... a stark lack of actual "Zombies". So, in steps "Delta Productions", who quickly realized that they could make a quick buck if they started touring a group and simply tout them as _The Zombies,_ something they will do several times with a few bands. And Delta was right, it was a huge hit and they started making money hand over fist. So much so, that they created a *second* _fake Zombies_ band and started touring them simultaneously (because, no internet... which made it near impossible for people to figure out they were being had -- and, honestly, do you know what even a single member of _The_ Zombies looks like? Of course not).
Meanwhile... back in England... the leader of _The actual freaking Zombies_ discovered their U.S. success and tried to quickly get the group back together so they could go cash in on their new found fame. This is when they discovered what Delta Productions was doing. So, they go to Delta, ask them to cease and desist and threaten to sue... Delta practically laughs them out of the office. Sure, they can try to sue; but it will probably take years. By the time they finally win, people will have moved on and no longer be interested in seeing them in concert. They need something that will get rid of the _fake Zombies_ bands quickly (and effectively). Enter _The Hell's Angles._Yeah... the leader simply hires the infamous motorcycle group, _The Hell's Angles,_ who promptly start showing up to the _fake Zombies_ gigs, where they start threatening them with literal face murder (as in, "I will murder you in the face if you even think about taking the stage.") It works, the two _fake Zombies_ bands, wanting desperately to keep their faces un-murdered, both quit and move on, allowing _The real Zombies_ to cash in on their well deserved fame. Happy ending, right? Well, not quite...
As it turns out, two of the _fake Zombies'_ band members really like playing together. Bassist/vocalist Frank Beard and drummer Dusty Hill, members of the Texas based _Zombies_ group, figure they just need to get another member and they can take their shot at writing their own songs and touring for themselves as their own band. So, they hire guitarist/vocalist Billy Gibbons, begin doing their own thing... and title themselves... _"ZZ Top"._
Anyway... I'm sure I got several things wrong, but this is the general gist of the story about _The Zombies_ and how a fake cover band ended up founding one of the most popular bands in U.S. history.
The problem with technology is that it progresses until a cataclysmic event blasts us back to the stone age. There's no way to stop it. There's no way to say "this is enough." Personally, I'd be happy to perpetually live in a world with microwave ovens and 16-bit graphics, but nothing thinking for itself.

Yes it can be corny if Lincoln comes back to sell diapers but we all know what it is. Personally I have no interest in seeing dead rockers on stage but I guess there's certain demand for that. Some people want sex robots and all food and stuff delivered to them so never have to leave house etc. As long as I can go to some tent in a forest with no tech or anything when it becomes too much I'm fine.

I work with troubleshooting industrial lab and test equipment, specializing in precision metrology... So I'm a bit more familiar then most folks I think.Always knew the stuff was coming but thought it was at least a decade away.
What surprised me most is the fusion breakthrough and the "theoretical" wormhole that was created in quantum computing. Mind-blowing stuff happening so fast, and the surprising thing is either one of the above-mentioned breakthroughs could have equal or greater effect than the other. It really is a coin toss at this point. Which is what is really scary.
The deeper you understand this stuff on the intimate level the crazier you realize it is... And the more you realize you really don't understand at all.

Re: audio, nope... they're already able to deep-fake the audio too... at least Adobe is... there's a video online of an Adobe engineer deep-faking new text whole cloth in Jordan Peele's voice... it was done as some convention presentation.

As a deepfake creator myself, the fact that "Not Exactly Normal" failed to even acknowledge or link to the other RUclipsrs that created the deepfakes he compiled is disturbing. Based on the comments, it seems the guy is willing to let his subscribers think that he created the deepfakes in the video. Give credit where it is due, @Not Exactly Normal.

A way not to be faked is to be known for carrying something rare with you everywhere you go. Like Linus from the peanuts/Charlie Brown cartoon and his safety blanket. No blanket not Linus. ....or one time pad style system where two things are combined (in front of the cameras) to produce a third that only the target audience can verify in real time. [Assume everything else is fake]

As long as you have people who create forgeries you will have people who reveal forgeries. There is no such thing as a perfect fake. If you can tell the difference between two framed paintings then surely a video of a 100,000 frames will be even easier.

Eh, I still trust that proper independent journalists do their proper fact checking. If a president made a statement there were official announcements, dozens of people at the scene witnessing and arranging it etc. Now, individual youtuber news bloggers who just "recycle" news or clearly biased channels might lose all their leftover credibility. But I never put much faith in them anyway. For people who want to believe everything they see it could get hairy though.

How is it an invasion of privacy? It's an original work same as an artist could paint from memory someone nude.
And invasion of privacy would assume these are real, stolen, or otherwise recorded in real life illegally.
No point in banning this stuff, any 15yr old with a video card can do it now.
Perhaps it's more accurately termed, an invasion of identity. Or even simply, identity theft. Eventually, when this technology gets so good (including voice reproduction) that you can't distinguish between real and fake, you will not own your identity anymore. Then where do you go to prove it wasn't you who said or did something in a video?
@@jmaxton I guess?, at that point video and audio won't be admissible in court if it can be fabricated so easy. Plus there's one saving grace I normally rail against.. the cellphone. I don't like them presently for the security risk but they are a pretty actuate indicator of your location at any given time.
