I just came across your channel this morning. This video and some comments have answered a big question for me. I've been in N for over 20 yrs..this past yr I got introduced to HO.. I've always had an interest in O..however the $$$ kept me out. I've drawn up a couple of track plans using AnyRail and the track alone for a 10'x18' have been around $3k,, Wow!!! I kept looking at the Atlas track over RealTrax and Fast Track. I did see recently that Mennards offers tubular bulk at a very decent price. And, this video shows the use of the favored Ross Switches. I may have to go back to the drawing board and see if I can create a similar track plan to what I have come up with..Saving a Ton of Money... Thank you for this video..it's been most helpful.
Watching the live stream of the Amherst train show, Ross of Ross custom switches, was talking about his Tinplate switches and his tube track, I notice you have Ross track and switches, your bench and trackwork looks good.
I actually only have his tinplate switches. I source all the track from Menards. If you buy it from the website in bulk, you won’t find anything new nearly as affordable. I really like the tubular track. It’s not as perfectly smooth and semi- realistic as Altas, but it’s probably 1/10th the price. I have been very happy with the Ross Switches for the past 2 years I have been using them. The only drawback is that they only come in 2 curves…O72 and #5s. There are benefits of having only 072 switches on the layout, but you have to design for them.
rossswitches.com/rossplatetraditionalline.aspx They still make the tinplate line they have has for a couple years. I’m not sure about non-tinplate though.
Yes and yes! You can also remove the metal spring in them to disengage the switch motor from the switch, and the front truck will push the rail easily to the direction that is needed. I use this on a couple places on the layout and it works great!
All you need to do to synchronize the LEDs between the DZ1000 and the remote is simply to reverse the wires between the two. No need to mess with the LEDs themselves
If you look, the green LED was on the inside/turn side of the switch, and not the red LED like it should be. Green should be on the outside of the switch for the straight indicator. This machine wouldn’t have needed to be flipped if the machine was on the other side of the turnout, but since it was, the LEDs needed to switch places to be correct in the machine itself.
It’s actually made for Lionel track originally...Menards just copied the Lionel track size, so Ross tinplate switched fit both brands. Not 027 profile though.
Yes, ross is available, hand made, with a far superior z controller, but expensive. For my o72 switches, ross was $190 each vs atlas 072 for $115 from trainworld. And so far, ross needs conversion clips to my atlas track, $1.25 x 9 clips, $11.25 additional for the 9 rails on each switch track. And stephen, the owner of ross, is very helpful, available by phone, and expert. I love atlas regular track but their atlas switch tracks are garbage.I have a large trainboard, all atlas track, and integrating ross switch track has been difficult.
You do not have to connect the switch motors to the same transformer as the train, although most transformers have an accessory fixed output that is perfect to run the motors on.

Does Ross Still Make Switches? because I couldn't find a lot available.

They still make the tinplate line they have has for a couple years. I’m not sure about non-tinplate though.
Do these have the automatic derailing feature just like Lionel's 0-72 switches? Or can they only be controlled by remote? Thanks!

So can you get Ross switches for Lionel Tubular track?

@@whitmorestrains Thank you. I'm using Lionel tubular and need some 072 switches.
@@onemorething100 These are what you want then!

So where do you guys prefer to put your switch remotes? Near the switch, or on a panel on one spot of the layout?
Do you have to connect it to the same transformer that powers the train?
You do not have to connect the switch motors to the same transformer as the train, although most transformers have an accessory fixed output that is perfect to run the motors on.
