Mental health for men is something that doesn't get talked about enough. You can rarely tell if someone is having problems because men tend to push things like that aside and hide it as much as possible. I have suffered severe depression over the years and the downward spiral can be pretty difficult to reverse sometimes. Being out in the bush certainly helps because I only seem to get badly depressed when I have been stuck in the burbs for too long. Your setup is looking pretty sweet now with the RTT. That has be be better than a swag :)
I’ll be honest it’s talked about but no one knows how to respond. So many times during “are u ok day” etc and I’ve responded with no I’m suicidal I have problems and not one one person knows how to deal with that response
Very true mate, it’s definitely very early days for both conversation and also awareness. But if I can help carry the conversation, that’s all I could hope for.
@@Shinrin_Yoku_Delica_Adventures It is something people find very confronting I guess. Mental illness has always carried a stigma with it that is still there for many people. I guess in my own case I haven't really discussed the issues with people I am close to and to a great extent I have had to fight depression on my own. I have been suicidal in the past and that is always something people just don't know how to respond to. I don't even know if there are any online services that conect people who suffer from depression but sometimes I think talking with others who have been through the same experiences can be of benefit.
@@Shinrin_Yoku_Delica_Adventures I have found in my own case that when a downward spiral starts it is very hard to turn around. One thing that does work for me is relatively mindless physical activity, mostly chores like mopping the floor or something similar. It gets me up and doing something rather than just sitting and spiralling further down. I think perhaps the chemicals released during physical activity are beneficial but I don't know if it would work for anyone else. This is one reason I think solutions for those who suffer from depression are more likely to come from people who actually suffer from it but have found ways to cope with it.
Much praise to you for bringing up the taboo mental health issue too! So many suffer it in silence especicially us men. Its so good to speak it out! again thankyou!
Great episode. Talking about important stuff because there's important men's stuff to talk about. It's interesting how gut health is proving to be critical for a sense of balance and well being. I'm just happy to see someone who lights a fire using matches, not an expensive and ridiculous flint apparatus sold by a boutique off road store! My sense of priorities mate :)
Just watching your peaceful, unhurried quiet trips away is a tonic for my mental health. Glad to hear you talking about the issue as well as demonstrating a good way of improving it 👍
Good video Matt. It's great to have the ability to head out and relax the mind. We all need it, if we want to admit to it or not. Mental illness is hard. Myself, I don't suffer mental illness, not as far as I'm aware of. But I do like to get out there at times during my days off to put my mind at ease. Because, my wife's diagnosed with mental illness, unfortunately, she hasn't been able to work yet this year because of it. Also, my now 16-year-old stepson has been diagnosed with mental illness. The last 4-5 years have been really hard and has put a lot of strain on us. My wife and I have an 8-year-old together. Even though I don't have mental health issues, it feels like it at times, I am getting to the point that I'm feeling tired all the time. I love my wife to bits; we'll get through this. But yeah, mental illness is definitely not to be underestimated, both for men and women. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the comment mate, I understand your sentiment. I think even for those of us that don’t necessarily have mental health struggles, so to speak, it doesn’t mean that life isn’t hard and still has an impact. That impact can still great stress and are cause for attention. I admire your strength and I hope your situation finds some peace soon mate. I appreciate the comment, thanks.
You are a champ and at least found a good happy place for you to chill, re align and calm to give you that sense of peacefulness. It is a matter of doing more of it to give you that happiness! Love this type of camping even if only for a few days!
So refreshing to hear someone talk so opening about men's mental health mate my hat goes off to you for sharing with us this is something that strikes close to home for me so it is comforting to not feel alone about it, good to see you found your you place in the bush it does wonders for the mind ,keep em coming my brother 🔥
Looked like a nice time in a very beautiful spot. I'm yet to get a firepit and was wondering, could you explain the bush etiquette of what happens with the ashes and coals afterwards.
They are great mate. Glad I have one. I will empty my pit into the supplied fire pit, or find a spot in the bush to empty. Usually very minimal amount of ash after it’s all burnt down through the night.
What a spot, had it all to yourself too How are your lights on the awning wired up at @ 4:32? Are they the ones drifta sell and is the orange enough to keep the bugs away or do you wish they were red?
Thanks mate, I use a Canon G7X Powershot, with a Rode shotgun mic. It’s a very neat combo. Haha yeah just a dodgy glow plug, give him a minute in the cold and he’s good to go 🤣🚜💨
I got the feeling there’s a bit more going on inside of you that you didn’t share. Mental health issues have been a significant factor in my life and can take a long long while to come to reason with if at all. Sometimes it seems they just go dormant for a while before popping back up with a vengeance. Keep the bush therapy going, it’s good for you and me. Thanks
@@AussieColonel your very perceptive mate. I do have some things going on. Falling on some darker times again, it does creep in, as you say after laying dormant. Unfortunately I’ve not been able to get out bush as much as I’d like or need at the moment too. But, I’m okay. I appreciate your comment mate. Thank you 🥰
You can enter with the ladder from the side of the rtt once it's set up, he does that in this video, the ladder is only in front of the boot for pack up and set up
How are you liking the RTT? Compared to swagging it for so long? We have one on our trailer and i like it when it comes to the quality but they arnt overly comfortable mattress wise even with adding a self inflating mattress to thicken it up.. The other thing i found annoying is the climb up and down the ladder in the middle of the night when ya busting for a piss, whilst trying not to wake the other. I know obvious when it comes to an RTT but at first i didnt think itd be much of an issue until after much usage.

But I have CPTSD and other but I can tell you people need to be educated on how to respond rather than ask questions

Loved the EP Matt.
Including the underlying topic of mental health .
Thanks mate!
I really enjoyed this vid. Solo camping is something I'd like to do. Just experience solitude and nature. Thanks for sharing mate
Thanks man. I appreciate that. I’m glad the style is appreciated by many of you, means a lot!
Great little episode Matty, great to see you back out at it. I feel your pain with the fishing mate. 🤦🏽😂
Thanks Gav mate, thanks for watching! Yeah I’m not a fisherman’s big toe, but it’s not about that 🤣
I love your content. Thank you so much 👏🏻

Great video Matt. How are you enjoying the roof tent and would you still use a swag?
Thanks mate! Yeah I love it! It’s very comfy and very nice. I love the swag still though, of course!
What a spot, had it all to yourself too
How are your lights on the awning wired up at @ 4:32? Are they the ones drifta sell and is the orange enough to keep the bugs away or do you wish they were red?
Yeah mate they are the Drifta strip lighting. They are plenty enough for bugs.
What brand is the fire pit? I'm looking at getting one and like the look of this one. Cheers Matt
It’s a Red Roads mate, very nice handy pit this one.
maatee luv the vid what camera and audio are u using the audio is outstanding, need to look at ya injectors or fuel pump

How cold is it out at Lane Poole at the moment? must be damn cold!
It was bloody fresh mate 🤣❄️
