- Following a lead on a 1968 Pontiac Firebird for sale, let's just say pictures don't do it justice its a real peach…….Must see in person is a better description. Follow along and check out a car that was left to rot in a barn for estimated 30 years and see if it's worth buying. I love Firebirds but this one maybe to far gone for even me to salvage, trust me when I say I have fixed some rough cars this one might be the worst. To put it into perspective I have cut trees out of cars to extract them from their place of rest and bring them back to life and this one should have been left in the barn I feel. For some silly reason I still want to save it. What do you think?

Yes .. it's what you do
Meaning I fix totally wasted birds then you are correct. I wanted to fix this one but could not reach a deal. I have another one on the hook. Still working on purchasing it. Stay tuned.
looks better than the 68 i found
Wow. That must have been rough.
@@VinylVillageGarage ya its bad 90% of the floors gone and the trunk is gone open it up and see the ground......well it should keep me out of trouble, i hope, good luck with your project i do have extra parts let me know if ya need anything maybe i can help
Will do thanks and good luck on that resurrection too.
@@VinylVillageGarage gotta keepem alive
Well said! Could not agree more!
I’m going to look at it soon
cool. it is further away from me now. I believe it was purchased from the guy I originally talked to and now for sale again.
@@VinylVillageGarage where was it located before
linden Indiana
The car is attractive
this one is a hot mess, if it had a title I was probably going to buy it
Where is the 1968 Firebird located N How much $$$ Does it start Automatic per standard 350 or 400 Engine Henry Here I’m from Weslaco Texas
It was listed when I looked at for $1750 no title as is. It has now changed hands and the new owner washed it still no title and asking $4950 it was in northern Indiana and listed on face book market place last I knew. It has a Pontiac 350 and did start and run while I was there.
Send me an address phone number or anything I will go get it thank you very much
@@enriquerios8317 it is listed for same on Facebook market place. It’s about an hour south of Chicago in Indiana last i knew. Search it on Facebook market place northwest Indiana
I wish I would’ve bought it
if it had a title I would have
@@VinylVillageGarage oh yeah I forgot that it didn’t
@nicholasyoder I now have a way to get titles at a reasonable cost would have been a game changer if i did then.
@@VinylVillageGarage okay, I need titles for 2 cars I have.
@nicholasyoder my friend Luis Helped me get a title for my 1969 bird. Check out this video and skip to 11:53 for the guys info.

That bird needs a whole Lotta Love.
Yeah that car was a hot mess. If he had a title in hand I would have most likely bought it. So maybe it’s a good thing he didn’t.

Did anyone notice @ 3:43 it has a Long Branch exhaust manifold on the drivers side? What is weird 259 for the trim is black interior. I wonder if that car trim tag has been changed?
good observation!! I put a shot of the body tag because I came up with the same thing. either someone went thru a lot of trouble to change it over to a correct 1968 350 with correct heads, changed all the colors of the car inside and out or body tag swap. it should have been a 6cyl car, autumn bronze, black top and black interior. i wish there was a way to learn its story.
YJ also 1967 326 engine. The car is so rough and confused, unfortunately she is in Carparts County and not much is savable. Midnight Savannah is quite observant with the long branches, even the factory units are brittle (both my D and round ports have been repaired).
To restore the sheet metal could sink the budget, let alone everything else on the car. Make it into a drag car? With that much bad sheet metal visible, how much damage to the rest of the body?
I made him an offer he did pass on it, it needs just about every panel replaced due to rot. I figured it would be fun to rebuild. I don’t need another project that bad. the engine “runs” would most likely need a going thru. this bird has since changed hands and current owner is trying to sell it for a substantial more. still no title but it has been washed now. 😁 kind of a pricey car wash in my opinion
Hey I was going to go see the same car in Indiana but my buddy that live over there he a legend when it comes to Firebird he told me forget about it it's the only car I am missing to complete my 1st generation collection
it is definitely a big project, are you looking for any 68 bird? or an autumn bronze one for your collection?
@@VinylVillageGarage 68 project car I am in Pennsylvania I also have RUclips videos
where about in PA? I visit latrobe twice a year to see family.
@@VinylVillageGarage I live in kunkletown Pennsylvania
And you live where
If there is pitting in the sheet metal under the vinyl top,, do I cut out and weld in. Do I spot media blast and treat with the appropriate sealer / primer.
Good question for a long lasting durable repair the rust must be removed. Especially if going back with a vinyl top. Media blasting works good. I did my 1969 GTO almost 20 years ago and it had some deep pits. Never rusted thru but deep. I sand blasted the entire roof then used PPG epoxy primer then filled the pits with filler and still looks great
And no rust issues. You could cut it out but might make more work if the roof warped while cutting/welding
It is just the area below the roof and quarter panel seam connect. I don't plan on going back with vinyl top
Got it. That area could be patched if the rust goes all the way thru the panel. If there is no holes I would sand blast first and see what’s left. Then like you mentioned epoxy prime the areas that are bare. If you sand blast and then immediately epoxy prime no further prep to the metal is needed. But if you sand or grind on the metal to clean of the rust. It really should be acid etched. Before priming
Thanks a million and you ever hear of any 69 firebirds in MS, let me know
@@andrer3854 welcome, good luck on your project. If I find any or any find me I will let you know.
Been looking for a camaro or firebird for about 2 years now don’t want to spend 5k for a rust bucket with no drive train or interior. I’m in Virginia willing to travel if any of you guys know of anything.
What’s your budget and how much of a project do you want? The red 68 convertible on my channel is for sale if you are interested
Think this thing is still on market place
I would not be surprised. It was a fair price at $1750. Last I knew the latest price was $5,000
Autumn Bronze with the black vinyl top and black interior are the colors for my '68. Have always loved this combo! Mine was my first car and have owned it since 1981. Dee (Dad) bought it in 1972 and I bought it off of him in '81. By the time I did my frame-off as an adult, it was a poor pattern to make one by, but it was well worth all the money and agony!!
Nice car and cool story, keep it in the family is the way to go. I have. Autumn bronze 68 bird in my garage now. Beautiful color.
A great parts car. Thats it. I thought my coupe was bad till I saw this. Still gonna use it for parts.
I was hoping for a little nicer but the biggest reason I passed on buying this one was no Title.
I like the side pipes, i used a set of those on my 67 coupe de ville. Instant exhaust lol
Side pipes where the thing to do for sure at one time. Not even sure you can buy them anymore
After just about complete replacement of everything, how much is a non-original, run of the mill firechicken worth? Would you recoup your investment of time & money? If not, it's only a labor of love, a mission, a calling, sort of like trying to save every f'bird from oblivion.
BTW, if it started life as an OHC 6, even the fuel line is liable to be incorrect; OHC 6 fuel lines were 5/16", and V-8 lines were 3/8".
On this car you would definitely be upside down even if doing 100% of the work. The only thing that would make it worth while is the before and after pictures and a awesome story. You would end up replacing 90% of this car so basically nothing would be original. If it had a title I might have drug this car home…..in pieces. Lol
500 only
Definitely worth $500 to me too.
Hell no!
Lol, yeah this one is a bit rough. If he had a title I would have most likely bought it. I like a challenge and saving another one from the scrap pile. Unfortunately this one won’t be rescued by us.
i very rarely find 1st gen birds in my area so its a take what you can get. But this would be a good drag car start since most chop up most of the car anyway.
first gen birds are slim pickings here too. that is why I jump to at least check them out. this one is repairable and priced fair too. just on the fence if I need other project this big at this time. I have a hard time waking away from Firebirds.
@@VinylVillageGarage i gotcha, could be worth storing away for someone else later
Wish I could, I live in a vinyl village with a three car garage that is full currently. I would have paid for a storage unit if the car was in better condition.
Just needs a floor pan and trunk its about 6 grand for parts
I agree. I would have loved to put this one back together. We just could not negotiate a good price before he sold it to someone else. Then the price went way up, the new owner relisted it for a good bit more.
@@VinylVillageGarage that sucks really was some potential espeacially running
@@VinylVillageGarage im currently in the middle of a full restoration on a 68 400 ho auto
Wow 68 HO car that is nice, would really like to see that when done. My opinion Firebird are not common and finding one that has a nice Power plant under the hood even more rare. I hope to find a ram air or HO car while searing for barn finds someday at that point it will be hard to pass it up even if the price is high.
Nice find! good luck and best wishes to you on your project. Gotta save them birds!
@@VinylVillageGarage even better its a ram air ill send pictures for you
I would take a hard PASS.
She is a rough one for sure.
I'll buy it how much?
it was listed for sale on the Indianapolis Facebook marketplace. the car is northwest of Indy about 1.5 hours. I was not able to make a deal for it. the car can be repaired, will need extensive metal work and lots of love.
Listed on marketplace right now for 4900
Wow, the poor soul that think they can bring this thing back, it would cost you 25k-30k with you doing most of the work yourself... and no shop would even touch it without 50k down and another 60k when complete .. this car is worth between free - $500 on the high end.
I agree, it was $1,200 no title. I passed on this one.
@@VinylVillageGarage Good decision... alot of these car owners have been watching too many episodes of Gas Monkey Garage
So true, I love my firebirds but don’t get me wrong you would be upside down on this build when done even if doing all the work yourself. The only reason I would have bought it would have been so that I can say i revived what is quite possibly the worst condition Firebird.
busted frame - nope.
Just about no frame actually this One is very rough. If it had a title it would have been worth the $1750 he was asking.
@@VinylVillageGarage If it was a matching # 4sp. 400 ragtop car, I'd buy it.
Heck yeah, if yes a 400 HO car or convertible I would have hauled it home immediately
My experience has always been spend a little more to get a better car. Often you see one at a lower price but that difference in price is often negated by parts and labor. JMO
In this case this car has no title and barley any reusable parts it is not worth much. I agree save my money for another one.
got to be another bird that's better
yes, this is repairable but a big project. I think I have enough irons in the fire so to speak
There is always money to be made on 2 door Tri five chevys , camaros and firebirds. Folks sink big dollars into more doors and lose money. There are always ready and willing buyers for the two door tri fives and any first generation firebird or camaro. The last Firebird we had I went to a estate auction bought a rough 69 no engine or trans. rusted quarters. but the black interior was nice even still had the console. 2,000 folks at the auction and I bought it. Ipaid a hefty price. My wife exclamed you paid how much! I stated how often do we get a chance to buy any 67 thru 69 Camaro or Firebird with a good title? If there where two I would have bought them both! We only washed it and cleaned the interior. and quickly sold it for a $1,000 more than I paid.
If this car had a title it would have been mine. A little to much money and risky without one this time around. Yes it seems the f body market is good, congrats on your flip a quick $1k pay day for a car wash is nice
WORTH 800.00 JUST FOR THE SMALL PARTS
asking price without title is $1750 for this car.
more then I wanted to spend for a car without a title
@@VinylVillageGarage I would say 800 is tops
@@VinylVillageGarage did the guy tell you $1750 in person? If so I’m going to get it Saturday
yes the original price was $1750. it has since changed hands and the new price is a bit more. I talked to the guy who originally listed it for sale and confirmed it has a new home and listed for sale by the new owner.
If it was a ram air car maybe, it might be worth restoring. That one? No way.
Yeah she is rough. I agree a ram air car maybe. But definitely if it still had the 1968 round port heads.
If it was me., I'd kinda hope the owner would pay me to haul it off - or just give it to me free, just to get it out of his sight. If I didn't do anything with it I'd sell the usable parts and junk the rest.
I am fairly confident the guy selling the car got it for free, can’t blame him for. Trying Tom make a buck but this car was rough.
$800.00. If he wants more, leave it!
lol. yeah it needs a lot of work. I normally prefer them this way actually. if I did not have two birds in progress I would be more aggressive on buying this one. i did make him an offer so we shall see.
To much.
Like too much work? Yes it would be a large project. If it had a title when I looked at I might have bought it but it was too rough for $1750 without a title.
I like to say save it ,but my mind says too far gone in this case
If it had a tittle it’s a slim maybe, i would have done it for the challenge of bringing it back from the grave. knowing when it was finished I would be most likely be upside down but what a story it would have been. In this case I agree with you let it Rest In Peace
What’s he asking for the car I may be interested for parts
He wanted $1,700 for what you saw no title, it did sell and was relisted by the new owner for about $5,000
Lynyrd skynyrd ha ha it’s been in there awhile
I know who still has a cassette player? actually even CD player anymore?
@@VinylVillageGarage who even has a cassette player, a CD player, and a record player…oh yeah me 🤔😂
well make a good offer on the cassette tape and maybe he will throw the car in for free 😁
@@VinylVillageGarage I still have my cassettes all the oldies
me too, no car to play them in unfortunately. maybe i should by an 80’s car 🤔
Parts car
Lol. Yup what few are left.
Parts car offer
Almost barely a parts car. Shame it’s that bad
@@VinylVillageGarage yeah, drive train and glass, tires and wheels? It would be a challenge. Did you buy it?
How much was he asking?
@@tomwinkle1597 when I looked at it $1,200. He sold it two days later and the next owner listed it for $4,500 not sure if it ever sold
Almost did. If he had a title that day I would have. The no title thing was a deal breaker for me.
Not worth it, there’s other ones to find
maybe so. plus I have a couple in progress already. it was fun to check into it.
@@VinylVillageGarage Right. But also im interested to see what’s in the glove box and trunk though !!
did get the trunk open. nothing cool just an old tire and more rust. glove box never got it open
