This IS one of the STRONGEST Prince albums, in the ENTIRE CATALOG! He was Great; but this year, 1992, even on the 'artistic' level, Hip hop was TAKING NO PRISONERS!!!! I was 21. I remember.
It's so crazy to me that this album struggled.. I think it's one of his best albums with some of his best and most powerful songwriting. And God Created Woman, Love 2 The 9's, 7, SO many of the songs on this album just straight up give me chills with their musical ingenuity.
I like blue light, I had the privilege to see this concert in a very small venue in Worcester ma. 3000 people tops and it was definitely a great experience. These Arab men came in and sat in the front row, I thought wow! These guys must be hard core fans. Then after three songs played this news crew busted into the concert, they left a few more songs played and the Arab men jumped on stage and grabbed myte and ran. Then a few more song were played and the news crew busted in again! Apparently this was all part of the performance and it worked. During one of the songs toward the end of the show, prince lost the foam cover to his pistol mic and I found it when the lights came on and the concert finished. I was able to snatch it up. Still have it today. What a great show! Was this the legendary opera I hear so much about?
This is one of my all time favorite albums. There are tons of gems on this record- Love2the9s is brilliant. The Morning Papers has great musicianship. Damn U is just gorgeous. 7 is just the jam of jams. And God Created Woman is excellent. 3 Chains O Gold deserves a Grammy award. This is such a brilliant album.
Having been my second album from Prince after Diamonds & Pearls, I have listened to the tape so many times it had to be 'fixed' several times and despite all the different styles on it, and it is one of his best, and it is in my top 3 albums from him!!!
I love the dance - almost rave like - song I Wanna Melt With You, albeit to much lyrics for a rave... 3 Chains O' Gold helped me through some very stressed times listening to it at full volume... 🤭
O(+> is one of my favorite Prince albums. I love how it shows Prince doing all forms of music in a way only Prince can do. I wish it was a much bigger album & hearing what could’ve been with the singles saddens me even more. Even with that, I love “Love Symbol” & I put it up there with his other classic albums.
'And God Created Woman' is fantastic and I really liked '3 Chains O' Gold' too. A lot of the tracks on this album along with 'Strays of The World' are the reason I will forever be heartbroken we never got Prince's Broadway style musical. Oh... and 'Love 2 the 9's' is one of the greatest songs Prince ever recorded.
This was the first CD I owned (I'm one of those people that lets new technology settle into society before taking it up). I had the CD before I owned a CD player. And I played the entire offering over & over & over & over.
this series is literally amazing... thank you so much for giving those of us who are new Prince fans context for things that the media/Wikipedia/articles might not cover. Very much appreciated
Diamonds and Pearls and this album are still my fav. Prince albums. They definitelt work well back to back. They one of those few albums where I enjoy every track and dont skip any songs. I enjoy the different genre of songs on this album. I always put it down to Prince showing he could do any genre and still make it sound good.
This is one of my favorites from the 90's. My favorite tracks on this album are still great: "My Name is Prince", "Love 2 the 9's", "The Morning Papers", "The Max", "Damn U", "7", "And God Created Woman", & "The Sacrifice of Victor".
This is one of my favorite albums. The lack of commercial success actually adds to the legend and makes it more of an underground gem....And God created Woman is my favorite song . But the entire album was extraordinary....some of his best work, really.
Your series of reviews of the albums is truly outstanding , thanks! This album came out the week I undertook a major career change and the first time I listened to it was in the car on the way to my first meeting in the new role. All these years later I am still transported back to that journey when listening to tracks from this album, the power of music to place you back in time is astounding isn't it! And I've been retired now for seven years, which makes 7 all the more ironic. Thank you again, it really makes a difference when coping in these covid times.
One of my top 5 Prince albums (LoveSexy, TRC, 20Ten/Dirty Mind, and Chaos and Disorder being the others) and definitely one of my top 10 albums of all time. This was the soundtrack to my early 20s and is one of those albums I save for special moods. I love this era of Prince the most: The style, the tour...everything was just perfect.
Being a huge Prince fan, (so much so, I named my daughter Mayte), I was excited when I came across your videos. I immediately liked and subscribed to your channel. This was one of my favorite albums! But I really enjoyed the B side/album commercial "To Whom it May Concern". Thank you for all the great information. I look forward to your next video in this series.
This album had choice favorites, but it definitely represents the beginning of a change for Prince’s career. I feel like he stopped trusting his gut, and started relying too much externally and started responding in excess, aka Quantity v Quality and it showed in his inconsistencies - but I know his budding issue with Warner wasn’t helping, and everyone comparing him to his past successes was probably getting to his head, that had to be a lot of pressure. You push a Gemini too far, they will take it there. Either way, I still bump 7, love 2 tha 9’s is so good and I do love that nonetheless Prince continued to create, despite life and everything that comes with it. He allowed himself to go with the flow and changes, which he once resisted when rap came on the scene. Can’t say he didn’t try to do it in his own way. Thats a true artist for ya 💜
This album was fantastic. It's a masterpiece and I think it's underrated. It shows his, range versatility and pure imaginative power. It's the last time I saw this level of ambition and passion from him since Sign O The Times. (Didn't care for Tony M's rapping on this or any NPG album, but over time, I got over that.)
Whilst I read quite a few comments , expectation is the last thing you need when listening to prince. Buckle up and enjoy the ride . The artistry is unique and so much so that it is bound to leave a few confused including the execs lol. Yes confused it's too much all the time sometime. But for those who can take it it's a journey like no other . Three chains of gold quite sums it up for me. Never have enough of it. My fav were most of it , I didn't see anyone mention "sweet baby" that song always did something to me I can't explain and I am a lion lol
My favourite is a tie between the Max and Blue Light, they are so different from each other and kind of unusual for Prince, too. I think they demonstrate his range. He could do ANYTHING.
Count me in on one who just loves this album. The first three songs all blended so wonderfully. “Love 2 the 9s” is still one of my all-time favorites. Classic gems on this one. “Sexy MF” still gets a lot of video play, too.
It’s his best album. I love his music just as much as you guys do. I saw him 4 times live!! He’s the GOAT!! And the symbol album has always been his masterpiece in my opinion. Other musicians i talk to share that sentiment. Songs like The Morning Papers and Love to the 9s, really solidify this LP
I really commend this channel for exploring his 90s material. Most people refuse to believe he did far more better work than Purple Rain and the 90s was a flop for him. UNTRUE! He released some of his most challenging, prolific, and insouciant work during this decade. He was also maturing and his music reflected it. Oh, and, "And God Created Woman", "Blue Light" , and "Damn U" will always be my faves from this masterpiece. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the great work
No Question! My Absolute Favorite Song from Prince Is "My Name Is Prince"! I don't care how the album sold, it was AWESOME to Me! Much Respect To Prince The Artist FOREVER!!!!! 🙂💯✔
Question? On the song the *Sacrifice of Victor* he sangs, *when I reach my destination...we will be back soon.* In the liner song notes it reads *when I reach my destination thats when ill know...thats when my name will be victor.* Any known reason for that? I've always associated that w the symbol and how it spells out the name victor. My faves on this album are: 3 chains o gold, the Sacrifice of Victor and Continental. And Morning Papers. *Know the Facts* I ran into Tommy B once, at the Love4Another concert in Atlanta. He was walking around the grounds. I asked him "what are the 3 chains of gold?" He didn't give an answer. He just stopped and turned to look at me. He looked me up and down - offered a generous smiled then walked off. 🤷🏾♂️ I think they are The Father The Son and The Holy Ghost. I asked Mayte on her IG, too. She never responded.
The album (and symbol) is technically called Love Symbol #2. What is Love Symbol #1? I can't confirm this, but the band Love had a logo where the 'O' in love looked like a mix of the male and female symbols. I strongly suspect, Prince took this (he was a big fan of Arthur Lee and Love) and created his own. The #2 was certainly in homage to Love. If anyone can confirm this, please do so.
One of my favorite albums ever. “Love 2 the 9s,” “Sexy MF,” “And God Created Woman,” “Sacrifice of Victor,” “My Name is Prince” are awesome classic songs! My favorite rendition of the NPG.
Thanks for this series and highlighting this album. Love Symbol is outstanding! Played it nonstop when it was released and still play it often. Wish it would've had more of the tremendous maxi singles that Diamonds & Pearls had. Also a huge fan of Carmen Electra's album. Step to the Mic is such a good song to me! Thoroughly enjoyed Monie Love's contributions, too, and her Prince-produced single Born 2 B.R.E.E.D. during this era.
My fav is 3 chains o gold. Earlier in the phone call, Vanessa talks briefly about Prince's Opera ("Aww the Opera prince remarks"). That track comes across as an operetic style, with its different sections, movements and storyline. But yes to get the whole story we'd need the rest of the interview calls.
I love this album and think it has aged better than diamonds and pearls. Great memories of this period in the UK as Prince was still getting good promotion and we had a lot of live shows. Thanks for the video, Keep up the good work
I absolutely, positively, unequivocally LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Love Symbol album. I understood the narrative behind all those skits before the songs. You mentioned it yourself how there was a movie or something telling the story of Mayte' being kidnapped. I understood them all and then later on when the video came out I understood them even more. Personally I think Warners may have botched the promotion on it out of spite and to ruin him. As for the album itself as I said I loved it. Every bit of it. Every note. It was brilliant and stands as my all-time favorite Prince album. I absolutely love all of his music (even though it takes me a while in some cases) but this one is one that spoke to me on a few more levels than most anything else in Prince's collection. I cannot say enough great things about this album. I was actually listening to it when I logged on to RUclips for another reason. (I know, algorithms right?) After that video was over I clicked on this one. But yeah, it's great!
This ranks as one of my 3 favourite Prince albums of all time. When I can’t find a bad track, I know it’s good. Diamonds had some good songs, but I wasn’t big on it. (The other 2 are Gold and 1999 btw 😉)
Dude this is one of my favorite Prince albums. I really would like to see a deluxe. I personally love the sagues in the album. And I honestly wouldn’t mind if he just put the album on two discs like he did with Sign O’ The Times. I really feel like this albums needs more love, it’s very important to me. This, Xpectaition, and Parade are some of the most influential Prince albums to my music career. Any chance to make those albums better, I would take.
Really enjoyed that. My favourite Prince album which I bought it on cassette when I was 16. Played it to death and still do. The only track I'm not too fussed over is My Name Is Prince. Everything else is great.
I agree. My Name Is Prince is a very bullish song and every time I hear it, Prince comes off as aggresive and arrogant. It seems out of place with the rest of the songs.
Picking a Favorite Prince song or even song from an Album is amount to the difference of a song that you give a 10, or perfect score to and others that are 9.9999998, 9.9999997 ECT to.
There are several cuts on here that I like, although this along with D&P represents the start of Prince losing me. I DID love the album when it came out
I love the Love Symbol album. I didn't know there were extra segments that were cut. That explains why the story didn't make sense. I wanna Melt with U is one of the weaker tracks for me, so i would have rather gotten all the story instead if given a choice. lol Also i love that he made so many unique music videos for so many of the tracks on the album. Though sadly the one track i wanted a video for the most (3 Chains of Gold) didn't get one. I can just visualize how crazy and over the top it could be in my head whenever i listen to it. Then again, i would have settled for at least hearing him play that song live.
One fact that Made me very Grumpy was it was released in the UK a week or two before it came out in the US. (some other albums came out a day before and Lovesexy was a few days and 20TEN has still not been released in the US but most of the time I was not aware of this difference... and 20TEN was leaked before the papers were even out on the racks)
The album is uneven...there are even a few songs I can't hear in my head when I look at the titles. But there's some damn good material here, too. I really like Morning Papers, 7, 3 Chains O' Gold and Sacrifice of Victor.
Personally, his most underrated album that should’ve been one of the biggest albums of 1992.
This IS one of the STRONGEST Prince albums, in the ENTIRE CATALOG! He was Great; but this year, 1992, even on the 'artistic' level, Hip hop was TAKING NO PRISONERS!!!! I was 21. I remember.
My fav on this album was " And God Created Woman"..
Fave 90s Prince work. “And God Created Woman”
Amazing album! Morning Papers is my fave track .
It's so crazy to me that this album struggled.. I think it's one of his best albums with some of his best and most powerful songwriting. And God Created Woman, Love 2 The 9's, 7, SO many of the songs on this album just straight up give me chills with their musical ingenuity.
'You must become a Prince before your king anyway'-love that line!
This is my favorite Prince album that also has my favorite Prince track: "The Sacrifice Of Victor".
One of my all time favorite Prince albums and my favorite of his with The NPG.
I simply cannot wait for this to be reissued at some point. I’d play the vinyl so much, the needle will be going through the other side.
I like blue light, I had the privilege to see this concert in a very small venue in Worcester ma. 3000 people tops and it was definitely a great experience. The music went over peoples head. To ahead of its time
This is one of my all time favorite albums.
Sacrifice of Victor is one of my all time favorites.
"Morning Papers" is one of his greatest recordings ever.....fantastic work on both piano and guitar and great lyrics
This has always been one of my favorite albums.
Having been my second album from Prince after Diamonds & Pearls, I have listened to the tape so many times it had to be 'fixed' several times and despite all the different styles on it, and it is one of his best, and it is in my top 3 albums from him!!!

This comment made my day Joshua. Thank you so much. I’m truly so glad and grateful that you are enjoying the series 💜
This is one of my favourite album of Prince. I don't know why this great material was smashed by critics in 1992... I love 1986-1996 era the most!

That album was SLAMMIN'!! 👁️ very highly disagree with all opposition of this album
I think this Album is nothing short of stunning.
This is one of my favorite albums. The lack of commercial success actually adds to the legend and makes it more of an underground gem....And God created Woman is my favorite song . But the entire album was extraordinary....some of his best work, really.
My favorites are Love 2 the 9s, The Max, I wanna Melt with U, and 7.
Great album one of his best of the 90's Remember seeing him perform a few of the tracks on The Arsenio Hall Show.
The Continental best song on this awesome album
Just keeps getting better and better, Thank you for all you do. Like having our Prince television channel :)

I love "The Continental." Such a bop
This album is way way better than Diamonds and Pearls
I remember buying the cassette version of this album for my 17th birthday. Each song is a classic, IMHO.
Very interesting thanks, Love to the 9’s & God Created Women 🤘🤘🤘👌👌👌
Always one of my favorites. So much variety in one record!

One of my favorite 90s prince albums
The Mayte years are my favorite, so this album is really special to me. Thanks for the video! Can't wait for the next one.
My favourite is a tie between the Max and Blue Light, they are so different from each other and kind of unusual for Prince, too. I think they demonstrate his range. He could do ANYTHING.
The best album from Prince. Pure gold.
Count me in on one who just loves this album. The first three songs all blended so wonderfully. “Love 2 the 9s” is still one of my all-time favorites. Classic gems on this one. “Sexy MF” still gets a lot of video play, too.
Timothy Minor Damn Right!

3 chains o gold completely blew my mind, this whole album and diamonds are a pair in my mind. I absolutely love where he was in these.
This is actually not only one of my favorite Prince albums but one of my favorite albums overall.
No Question! My Absolute Favorite Song from Prince Is "My Name Is Prince"! I don't care how the album sold, it was AWESOME to Me! Much Respect To Prince The Artist FOREVER!!!!! 🙂💯✔

I asked Mayte on her IG, too. She never responded.
I LOVE this series. Keep up the great work. As a self-professed P “know it all,” u all never cease to deliver info that’s new to me. Much respect
This Tour was my favorite. Detroit back to back shows Fox Theatre. Anybody else there?
I was sooo obsessed with this when it first came out. It's all I freaking listened to that school year. 7 is still one of my favs.
I love this series! You guys are amazing!
Just listened to it today. I think it's his best work.

I am absolutely loving this series looking into Prince’s albums. Brilliantly done. Well done, guys. Can’t wait for the next instalment.
I love this album. It was released in my birthday in the USA. My favourite? It's difficult to choose....it's a great, great album
Thanks for this series and highlighting this album. Love Symbol is outstanding! Played it nonstop when it was released and still play it often. Love the crazy low piano on “the Max”. And”God Created Woman” = sublime
Thanks for the video, Keep up the good work
One of my favourite albums by Prince. 'The Morning Papers' is a gem!

I managed to buy this album back in the day in a lovely gold slip case withe a big blue "symbol on it for the jewal case to go in.Very good album!
This ranks as one of my 3 favourite Prince albums of all time. When I can’t find a bad track, I know it’s good. Diamonds had some good songs, but I wasn’t big on it. (The other 2 are Gold and 1999 btw 😉)
Probably my favorite prince album....
Dude this is one of my favorite Prince albums. I really would like to see a deluxe. I personally love the sagues in the album. And I honestly wouldn’t mind if he just put the album on two discs like he did with Sign O’ The Times. I really feel like this albums needs more love, it’s very important to me. easily one of my fav albums love it
My favorite Prince album. 3 Chains Of Gold is just amazing
My favorite album. The Continental and I wanna melt with u is the sexiest songs.
To be honest I really love this album 👑
Loving this entire series!!!
Thank you for all your work. Always a pleasure to watch your videos.
I love this album 😍❤️👊🐺🌕....my son was born in 92.... I used to sing the song 7 to put him to sleep 💤😴😳👊🐺🌕👍💪💯❤️
I love this album
This album is incredible. Some of his best music.
this one is one of his greatest masterpieces . his opera album
Loved the album
There are several cuts on here that I like, although this along with D&P represents the start of Prince losing me. I DID love the album when it came out
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing it.👍
Love every track on this album... 3 chains o gold is exemplary guitar squeels at the end of that one
Great facts vid. I love The Love Symbol Album. One of my favorites from The G.O.A.T.
Love these vids :) thank you.
Also, faves off the album are: 7, The Max, I Wanna Melt With U, Love 2 The 9's, and The Morning Papers.
Interesting indeed! Some stuff I knew about, but others I didn't. Definitely did your homework. Thanks for the info!
Great album.. very underrated
I love the Love Symbol album. I didn't know there were extra segments that were cut. That explains why the story didn't make sense. I wanna Melt with U is one of the weaker tracks for me, so i would have rather gotten all the story instead if given a choice. lol
Also i love that he made so many unique music videos for so many of the tracks on the album. Though sadly the one track i wanted a video for the most (3 Chains of Gold) didn't get one. I can just visualize how crazy and over the top it could be in my head whenever i listen to it. Then again, i would have settled for at least hearing him play that song live.
Thanks. Love this album
An absolutely awesome album, which I like more than its predecessor.
"Damn U"
The album is uneven...there are even a few songs I can't hear in my head when I look at the titles. But there's some damn good material here, too. I really like Morning Papers, 7, 3 Chains O' Gold and Sacrifice of Victor.
