Thrilling list of novels I wrote in elementary school:
- chickens on mars
- a horse series about like horses in a barn having adventures together that I definitely plagirized from someone
- a very dark strange story about a turkey being trapped in some evil guy's basement and then breaking out of his cage and running away which I probably just wrote after seeing chicken run now that I think about it
- another very dark story about dogs escaping abusive situations and becoming friends? I've always liked angst I guess
- when I was 5-7ish I had this whole ongoing larp with myself about this horse family (I was that girl don't @ me) and the dad had like been in the war and had ptsd (seriously what was my problem) and then he married this mom horse and they had two baby unicorns and the mom I think was also like a professional racehorse and her human owner had this arch nemisis who was just dr dracken from kim possible who like always wanted to steal her and honestly I should've written it down it was iconic
- oh and also the most iconic novel of all time about penguins who lived in the rainforest and when they slept their flippers would stretch out and flap around wildly without their control, and there was this brother and sister pair Poppy and Cock (I was innocent) who were fighting a big ancient evil anaconda, plus another girl from a different dimension named Amy who was like also a victim of the snake and she had to help defeat it?

I wrote a story about a boy and girl in the welsh countryside in a time where a new disease epidemic came about and it was this love story with only slight sci-fi elements (aka disease) and all I wanted to do was describe the welsh country side and develop the characters’ relationship but my teacher required sci fi because me being happy wasn’t good enough but it made me realize I wanted to become an author

Oh my gosh this reminds me of a series I wrote as a child about a character named Sop Daisy. I didn't know how to spell 'soap.' She was a daisy with bars of soap instead of leaves that she used as hands.

I once wrote a book when I was like 5 where this duck lived in a pond next to these farmers house, and the farmers accidentally hit the duck with a tiny pebble so the duck suddenly became personified and went into the farmer's house and beat the woman with a broom then burned their house down.i drew a picture and made it into a whole "professional" book. my mom kept in in her window and then it suddeny disapeared and i never figured out where it went.

When I was 10 I wrote a story called "The River Dolphin's Curse" about this girl who was bullied because she rode her river dolphin, Bob, to school. Her dad disappeared three years earlier, and the dolphin just ~mysteriously~ showed up after. In the first chapter I wrote about the bully and the protagonists boyfriend. The boyfriend was a faux environmentalist who wanted to steal the river dolphin. My big ~pLoT tWiSt~ was that the river dolphin was the main characters dad. It was a LOT.

You should get a load of the "novel" I wrote when I was about twelve. It had a scene where three kids (and a robot) build a fully-operational spacecraft out of alleyway trash. They then fly to another planet, where they build an equally-imposing hospital OVERNIGHT. I thought it was the most enthralling sci-fi fantasy ever.

Hey, if it's any comfort, one of the first books I wrote was full of accidental racism. Like, I wanted to add diversity! So, I made the protagonist's friend a black girl. Who then becomes a stripper. :| And then my mc gets kidnapped! By the Mexican Mafia. I think I was 15 at the time, and I honestly didn't realize how offensive that all was. I'm a little more aware now, thankfully.
I feel like the worst thing you can do is change a characters race to create diversity. I know because i almost did it with one of my current MC’s before deciding to stick with her original background (a white Polish girl, who has lived in Scotland since she was a toddler) and its more complex and her backstory is more fleshed out then when she was a random Black girl whose parents were muggleborn?? Especially when there are lots of characters whom I envisioned as being of a different race, sexuality and even gender and who were fully developed characters. What i had essentially done to one of MC’s was change her race because i didnt want anyone to think my story wasnt diverse or racist and i dont think it ultimately benefits my writing. Also funny story, I also once done Hunger Games fanfiction about twins living in district eleven and made them both tall, blonde, white people with blue eyes! Honestly so cringe didn’t realise that many hints throughout the book indicate that the people of District Eleven are POC in some form (i do believe they are meant to be African American).
Haha I feel you on that. I'm still learning and growing hopefully. My WIP is a sort of dystopian fantasy where the segregation is based on wing color (which is not genetic), but the people are racially diverse with no bigotry based on race. My main character has always been a dark-skinned biracial woman and her best friend is the white one. I'm a little worried because my mc is a warrior, and I don't want her to fall into the trope of the dark-skinned aggressor. I'm going to need a lot of sensitivity readers.

In second or third grade, I wrote a store about a pink talking cupcake named Bob who leapt out of a trash can, got saved from a cat that wanted to eat him by a girl, and burst into a horrible rhyming song about the sorrows of being disrespected by people because of his species. To say the least, I had a very active imagination. 😂 Another time, I wrote a story about how a dog pooped in a river and caused a string of deaths. (Many people drank from the river, including the police who came to investigate, and they died from the sheer toxicity of the poopy river water. 😁
Tricit’s actually not a bad name 😂 if it doesn’t look like a real enough name to you, you could just change it a little bit to be like Trisette or something.

When I was 10, I wrote like maybe 3 chapters ablut this girl in WW2, her family died. When I was 12, i wrote a love story between a vampire and a fairy (I had a twilight phase) and in 8th grade, i wrote a nearly complete novel. I canf remember what ir was about, but it had dragons in it, and it was super dark (not that surprising, I had an emo phase too)
I still have notebooks I wrote stories in from 3rd grade because that’s when I knew I wanted to be an author. Yeah it’s trash and I’ll never be able to pronounce those characters names, but they’re one of my most prized possessions
this takes me back to middle school when I got into reading and writing and I wrote fanfiction about me dating my favorite celebrities, and there was one time where I fanficed myself as an up and coming actress and my little brother (which I don't have) tried to take a picture of me and sell it to the paparazzi (drama I know), but I never specified it was the brother and everyone was just confused about what happened

Omg when I was in third grade I wrote a similar story to the first one. But not about a pig. It was called Journey to Latibia and it was about this family of octoplets whose parents got kidnapped by an evil wizard so they decided to travel to this abandoned town to find a library that had a magic scroll with a map to this place called Latibia (big shocker, woo) and they fought the wizard and saved their parents. I was so proud of it at the time, but I found it again in middle school and it was completely unrecognizable. I wish I could remember where I've put it since then, though, so I can see how it's changed in my eyes since middle school, but ah well.
I remember writing a story when I was about 8 about a kind and gentle princess who was also a doctor and she'd had over a thousand patients and she had saved every single one of them and what's more she was only 16 years old.
the fact that you think that authors just put themselves in their books instead of making up characters is the best thing i've heard all day. reminds me that i used to think that bands would always play live on radio because it did not occur to me that you could record that shit and i was wondering how they always managed to have all these bands lined up.
Haha. The pig story kind of reminds me of the first short story I wrote when I was six years old.
It was about this crow who has no friends because the other animals are scared of him. And of course he reaalllyyy saaaad. Then one day he meets a baby deer who is attacked by this baby wolf, and the crow is jabbing the wolf face to make him go away and he somehow manages. Then the fawn becomes his pal. The end.
A bit later (I was... maybe seven?) I also went into ghost stories (I had some of those "Goosebumps" books or whatever) and I wrote this short story called "Cursedtown" (very subtle name here).
It was about a girl who was just traveling and hanging out for some reason and she arrived in the town of "Cursedtown" where all of the inhabitants had been transformed into stone statues. Some random dude was there and he told her she needed to go to the town orchard and get a golden apple from a special tree to cure all of the townspeople of the curse (which is pretty weird because... just why?). But there was a catch because as she was moving through the town and into the orchard she was supposed to never turn around or look back otherwise she would be changed into a stone statue as well.
So she does. And then, the closer she gets from the orchard there are these horrible screams that she hears from behind her. And she's scared as hell but she keeps going. And I never ended it but she was supposed to get the apple anyways and to get rid of the curse altogether. The end.
It was kinda silly and pretty naive but, honestly, I cherish these memories somehow, and I hope you do as well with your childhood stories.
When i was little i was obsessed with this series of off shoots of the original cupcakes story from mlp. I legit wrote my own story in the middle of class of pinkie pie killing this random guy i made up and i was so proud of it i forced my friends at the time to read it. I really liked horror stuff as a kid and would try to get detailed which proubly made it like ten times worse.
List of some of my own worst fan fictions: Austin and Ally-Ally gets a puppy but turns out her puppy can talk, is actually a werewolf, and is actually her long lost sister; Lab Rats-Crystal Bennett (an OC who was basically me, it was definitely a Mary Sue situation), teleports into the Lab Rats universe and falls in love with Chase Davenport; Twilight-Charlie becomes a vampire
when i was like 11 or 12 i wrote a fanfic of me in the hunger games and i wrote my character not doing anything and just getting protected by other people the whole time hgfredw

in grade seven we read the hunger games, then basically made our own class hunger games. we played this weird dice game to figure out deaths, weapons, etc. and then wrote our own stories based off of the dice game and our characters. your hunger games fanfic really reminds me of that

When I was in 4rd grade my friend got me into that book series about all the animals that live in an abbey(???). As an avid fan, obviously the best thing to do was to create my own story about two animal friends that was not at all inspired by that series I was really into.
In chapter 2, the friends (I think it was a fox and badger) are walking out in a meadow or something and the fox gets bit by a snake and passes out. I never finished it so to this day I don't know if I was intending for him to survive or not.
You are talking about redwall and those books devote a surprising amount of time to a) animal warfare and b) really elaborate food.

I used to write all mg fanfiction in high school. I used all my paper in my binders and used to get in trouble for not paying attention. But I wish I kept all my writing to look back at how horrible it was. My grandma always told me that I would be a really good writing because I can easily take a topic and make a story out of it and she loves reading them. Thank you for sharing old writing even though it may have been cringy
When I was in third or fourth grade I wrote a story about a mad scientist in a grocery story who had a laser gun that made people and stuff float. So while everything was floating a tiger appeared, who the scientist was apparently hunting and he tried to shoot him. I think the tiger started puking grenades or something I lost that part. Although, I can't say my writing is much better now if I think about it.

When I was ~10 I wrote a play that was essentially the plot of Barbie as The Island Princess but the princess was shipwrecked after an assassination attempt on her 18th birthday where her ship was blown up by fireworks and she got amnesia. When she got rescued two years later and taken back people didn’t recognize her because they thought she died, but the aunt who orchestrated the explosion to take over the kingdom does, and tries to have her exiled before the princess realized who she was.
"Guss what" made me choke on my drink silently because everyone is sleeping, thank you. (It was a mistake to eat while watching this. I'm dying)
I wrote a series about a basset hound detective who could talk and would save dogs from pounds. He also ended up becoming a human and a prince. I was eight. Man, I wish I was still that creative.
When I was 18 I did a Homestuck/The Hunger Games crossover/AU and I completely forgot about it until now. It wasn't that bad, but it's an odd crossover. It was my two favorite things at the time, I was like "what if I put the Homestuck characters in an arena and had them murder eachother? It's like the troll meteor but MORE MURDER." It could've been good. Roxy and Karkat were the tributes from District 12 and I remember I wrote a really good interaction with them that was unlikely to happen in canon and they were surprisingly interesting together.
I had most of the characters involved in some way, I would have had 12 trolls and 8 humans and some rando OCs that got killed in the cornucopia bloodbath. I assigned them to districts that made sense, like Eridan and Feferi were from the fishing district. I am not sure who would have won, but Karkat was going to lose because I don't think he could actually kill anybody and it was going to be a BIG SAD.

Oh man, when I was a kid I wrote Invader Zim fanfic/a knockoff? I don't remember what it was about, I think I just regurgitated an episode I saw when I was 7.
Throwback to that time like 5 years ago when I wrote a story in french called “Hitler vs Stalin IN SPAAAAACE”, or “Hitler vs Staline DANS L’ESPAAACE” if you want to know the original name and it was a story about me and my classmates in space and the three main sides were the ussr, nazi germany and North Korea and at the end of the book the main characters got saved by a group of rebels and the rebel leader was our counsellor. The implications of having a nazi main character were never addressed and it was supposed to be a trilogy but I only completed the first book, thankfully

When i was 12 i wrote a story about two girls who suddenly became mermaids and played in the ocean but later they turned back into humans and couldn't find their clothes so they got arrested for public nudity

She gets her memories back eventually but she was really there to get killed. Then they fight Bill. I really thought this plot was going to be the beloved gravity falls movie
Once I wrote a story about a child spy who was being targeted by an ex spy from her organization...ex spy was kicked out for, and I quote, "stealing gadgets and spying on spys." I think it's important to note that said criminal spy was rehired by the institution that kicked her out as a janitor
one of my first stories was about a cool new guy at school that turned out to be a scary vampire that couldn't control his bloodlust. I'm 90% I wrote it before Twilight was a thing

I totally also wrote Hunger Games fan fiction where I wrote myself into the story. Only, I thought I was genius for writing a sequel to the first book that would act as if Catching Fire didn't exist. In it, I was going to be selected as the tribute for District 11 and the oppression just kept going. No rebellion. Cause ya know. That was totally the point of the entire series.
