I interpret this as a coming out story: the girl shown likes women and she feels she needs to hide this. I like this big colorful circus as the metaphor, full of a lively and happy community. I take it as the girl eventually just letting it out, coming out to her family because she can't hide herself anymore.....only to be rejected by her family. And while it hurts, she realizes that this is who she is and finally embraces it fully. I like how her dad ( think) turns back to see his child happy, accepting herself. Maybe he will too.
@@Carlos-bz5oo i wouldn't go as far as calling her father a bigot. the way he is shown to hide away in his perfect little world he's bulding, the way he clings to it - he's not comfortable without his perfectly stable world of pure conformity, where everything works the way he builds it to be. He doesn't try to hurt the creatures, he just hides them away to try and forget them and when, what i assume to be the grandma, starts attacking the creatures, she also destroys his perfect little world as he just hides in fear. The grandma is also the one signalling him to get out of the tent, which he reluctantly does, not before noticing how beautiful his daughter "looks" (feels), embracing her true self. I think he was raised in a very conservative household and he seems to be a very timid person, he clearly has no ill will but is also to scared to go against the beliefs and ideals he was raised with and just hides away in his pretend-perfect world to avoid having to stand up for his own thoughts.
I think the father made an assumption with the male figure, and his daughter is afraid of disturbing his world. When the truth does escape into his world, she knocks over one of the buildings in his world trying to catch it, but she immediately grabs the building and sets it upright again. When the father puts the truth in the drawer and at other times, I think he was scared of the grandmother. I think he was trying to help his daughter keep her secret. Note that when the grandmother starts attacking the truth, she-unlike the daughter-does massive damage to the father's world. In the end, the father is unwilling to stand up to the grandmother, but he's also a victim. A good display of how intergenerational trauma works.
I like the extensive difference between her father and her grandma. Her father is fascinated but chose to hold onto his beliefs and shut them down. While her grandma immediately tries to whack the acrobats off like they're some pests. And when the daughter shows her circus, her grandma immediately wants to leave, followed by the hesitant father. However, he looked back... He saw how happy his kid is...
What I appreciate about this short is its ending. I find it interesting that the family members (well, the mother at least) REJECTED the daughter’s sexuality instead of accepting. In a way, it felt real, since there are families out there that cuts contact with their LGBT child. The ending maybe a bit sad, but it almost felt bittersweet in a way . The daughter can finally live for who she is instead of hiding it. And hey, judging by the father’s look at the end, maybe someday, he’ll finally accept his daughter who she is. Underrated and beautiful short. It deserves more views than it already has.
I love the choice of representing her queerness by little colourfull acrobats. It's beautiful and unique. Her inner world seems so joyful and shameless, they're all hanging out, playing and kissing, it's super cute. It's like they're showing how free she wants to be, and she's embarrassed by it when they show that to her family. Her grandma can't accept so much unique beauty, but when her father sees it truly in the end, we can guess he'll maybe accept his daugther as who she really is. Amazing short as always, congrats to the team 🫶🏳️🌈💙
The animation and art style in this short is so beautiful! It's an unique way to metaphorically show sexuality. I hope this short will gain more views and likes, because it deserves more attention!
Super travail!! Le rythme du récit est maîtrisé, on est direct absorbé par l'histoire et on ne voit pas le temps passer ✨️ Sans parler des couleurs qui sont magnifiques, des plans très bien pensés, et de l'animation super fluide 🙌
love it! everything, the story the character design the symbolism with the little town and the acrobats. The fact that it wasn't the acrobats that demolished the town but hate of a person that disagrees with their actions. amazing
wouah, c'est génial, 7 minutes de bonheur, sentiments, des couleurs extrêmement variées, bravo ! j'adorerais faire de l'animation avec des gens qui en ont fait une géniale comme celle-ci !
This got me so emotional coz I was recently forced to come out in front of my parents and it was such a painful experience (didn't turn out well). Thank you so much for making such a beautiful film!
OUTSTANDING !!! Just excellence across the board. The story is beautiful, with a great blend of the abstract with a grounded msg. But- the colours, contrast, fluidity, perspective and framing of shots, movement and pace - all simply fantastic. well done to all the team on this one
I love it so much. Feels like she is showing her true colors through the colorful acrobats. Music is intense but it also includes the joy in it. Love it!
Absolutely gorgeous animation, stunning effects, colours and music. And I just adore all the queer symbolism! It's bittersweet, but beautiful. Of all the shorts that have come out this year, this was the first one to make me tear up on the first watch. So happy for the hopeful note at the end- where the father looks back and sees how happy his daughter is. There's hope there for him; he finally sees her for who she truly is- to see her in her prime, at her happiest, where she accepts herself and loves herself- and he could be a part of that life, too, should he embrace it. It's just so beautiful!! My favourite film thus far.
Realmente muy increíble lo que hicieron en este grandioso Film , me hizo llorar , cada vez más los estudiantes de la Gobelins se lucen con sus proyectos increíbles 🎉🙌
Well yea people think they need their family approval but no, own your life, be happy don’t wait for people’s approval. If they’re scared of you or the way you live your life or who you chose to be surrounded by, it’s not your problem. Be free ❤ the people that will support you are your family❤
Damn I can't believe there are no shows or movies for these different styles of 2D cartoons(I can't get enough of this) and beautiful stories. What a waste of creativity and innovation. The French are more professional in this field than the Americans, but their works are not popular and supported, unfortunately, and are not usually broadcast around the world and are not translated much, even by amateurs. Edit :Anyone else mention the girl in Oban Star Racers. She looks like her?
I know they're a metaphor, a representation of her homosexuality, but when grandma was smashing the poor things, I felt so bad. Why would you want to smash up such cute little guys? 😟😢
Oh my god this made me tear up This hits especially hard having to live in a household where my stepfather isn’t as accepting of how I want to be called. And now that I recently realized I am aro/ace I’m scared to come out to them because when I came out to them as trans it didn’t go well :/..
Take the time you need to construct yourself, to find a safe zone I know this is a heavy secret to hold and that times seem really long, but trust that in the future, you will be yourself at one hundred pourcent
Same, my mom is accepting but she's obsessed with the fact that she didn't actually fully know me. Even if they're accepting it's a heavy burden, both to keep silent and to come out. Please stay safe, much love
I loved the representation of the “traditional” “”old”” world that the little trains and crafted “perfect” town showcase, and how her little colourful shameless acrobats quite literally defy gravity (defy traditional society beliefs). Also how she desperately tries to hide it but when she finally embraces it she protects it and fully enjoys it 😭❤️🩹
Excusez-moi de ne pas être au diapason général mais j'aimerais défendre la grand-mère.😅 Sa petite -fille vient littéralement de lui montrer que ses choix de vie la font vomir !
It's supposed to be good when the girl is accepted and not judged by disgust ethics for her desire for feminine people, but if a man really really loves her then his love is unacceptable and vomit-worthy even if he's only being coerced into traditional gender expression like anyone else would have been.

Very much so, considering she's horrified at the male figurine holding her hand. Her father is a bigot but its implied he means well

Proud to say I've always been a huge fan of gobelins animation. This is probably one of my top 10 favs
This is so wonderful this since a nice story and how storytelling was shown.
Magnifique travail ✨Felicitations à toute l’équipe 👏
You can either love and accept the person someone is, or miss out. Either way you can't change the way people live and whom they love
One of the most special things I've ever seen, there are no words! True art
