If she knew what she wants
(He'd be giving it to her)
If she knew what she needs
(He could give her that too)
If she knew what she wants
(But he can't see through her)
If she knew what she wants
He'd be giving it to her
Giving it to her (giving it to her)

What's needed right now is for The Bangles to be inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, and for this band to get the Deluxe Box Set Treatment...
They didnt write their most popular songs, and many of them were covers. Sexy? Yep. R/R HOF level talent? Nope.
Are you serious? There are talentless scumbum gangster rappers in there. Get real!
Absolutely 🎶🎵🎼🎸🙈
@@DrBlood-cq2cm if were going by that criteria about three fourths of them shouldn't be in there just look at what talent the past 50 years aren't in it's a f**king joke
@@DrBlood-cq2cm
The Bangles are definitely RnR HOF talents. They were bigger than the Go-Go's who got recently inducted. They wrote their own songs. The pop-ish hits, no they didn't write them (they co-wrote some though), and that's the point: they were a rock band.
In my opinion the best song of The Bangles.
Has wonderful moments...
Their best without any question.
Manic Monday, this song good for me
@@VinodMenonp Manic Monday is cute, Eternal flame went to #1, but this IMO is still the best.
Only because Hazy Shade Of Winter is a cover
It's not fair for a girl this talented to also have those eyes. A guy would never have a chance.

God, I miss the 80s. Real music
Love this song since I was a teenager. Now I'm 52 and still love The Bangles music.
I remember when it was in the UK charts in May 1986. I was 7 years old. Still got the cassette tape I recorded that chart show on.
Same for me and same age.
Never saw them live in the 80s. Did get to meet Susanna Hoffs in person a solo tour in 2009 or so.
I'm only 27 and they frickin' rock! I only listen to the 80's music.. sucks this music wasn't a part of my teenage years but definitely enjoing it now!
So many teenagers back than had such a crush on Suzanna, me included. I'm 53 now and this one is still one of my top 20 songs ever
Hats off to Jules Shear for writing this brilliant song, and to The Bangles for their impeccable performance. This is pure gold.

I just love the harmonies and the melodies on this song. Plus, that guy in the video was so lucky kissing those ladies, especially Susanna.
I remember being a little girl of 7 in 1986 when my teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grow up I said "I wanna be in the Bangles" 😘 at age 38 I still do
Nice!
they are so hot and beautifull and sexy anda brilliant creativa as everywoman should have the chance tobe!!!
so sweet

The Bangles are a genius, underrated, amazing band. This song is about consent, choice, the legitimacy and power of emotion, and this song is a decade (and 1000 years) ahead of its time.❤
It's not about consent, it's about satisfaction.
@@timothygraham4304I agree, it's certainly NOT about consent. However, that word has been politicised for the contemporary age. It acts like 'diversity' or 'choice' or whatever. It's a shame the younger generation have had politics infect even their intimate emotional imaginations. Poor bastards. So glad I'm not growing up in 2024.
Yeah, real romantic.
@@timothygraham4304 That's what a rapist would say.
I remember this song well from 1986, and I could never understand why this song wasn't a bigger hit.
Because it doesn't subvert or cause division. It's just a nice song, based in truth.
It was a hit. Lots of songs on MTV then
Its odd how some songs made it onto permanent radio playlists and others faded into obscurity.
@@alex1701waller Like... Sweet Child O' Mine? LOL. OH! You mean Mambo Number 5..., no, no, no... Who Let The Dogs Out, right?
It's too smart for pop radio.
Suzanna Hoffs is so beautiful here, with such a provocative voice. Great song, great singer!

One of the Bangles' absolute best songs. God, I love this song so much. Every time I hear it, it brings me back to my childhood/adolescence. I really wish "If She Knew What She Wants" got the love and recognition it deserves.
Agreed it’s such a great classic pop song not a masterpiece but definitely deserves to be respected and remembered .
It's a cover!!! I only just found this out!!! And just found out prince wrote manic monday. Wikkipedia is still amazing me decades later. Go and look up 'different light' and have a read. I was only 12 when I had this on l.p. but I would have read the album cover from.... well.... cover to cover and being a prince fan, I known I would have read his name and known that nugget of info as I loved knowing stuff like that, he used the name Christopher apparently as a pseudonym.
Jules shear wrote and performed it, he sang it in 1st person terms, does that mean," if I knew what I want?" ? Or does it mean, " if he knew what he wants?"? No, first person means "I" doesn't it? So what's 2nd person then?? Oh, its " you" isn't it? "If you knew what you want?"!!! So third person is she/he??!! I almost started to get all misogyny then, ( which I never ever do by the way) thinking 2nd person was he and 3rd person was she!!!!!! Lolol, so before I get carried away with all that, my silly brain thinks it worked it all out.
I'd just never thought about it before!!! Sorry for my uneducated and inane ramblings. So.....
TL/DR
PRINCE WROTE MANIC MONDAY UNDER THE PSEUDONYM OF CHRISTOPHER AND IF SHE KNEW WHAT SHE WANTS WAS A COVER VERSION OF A SONG BY JULES SHEER ... BUT CALLED IF I KNEW WHAT I WANT(ED).
my tl / DR is turning into a lie.
Now I presumed that Jules was a girl at first but he definitely was a he, I just checked as all I'd written would have been a waste of time if the he had been a she!!....on ice list myself now..... lol.
This song was played so much in its time. I was surprised to learn that this song peaked at position 29 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1986. This song sounds so much fresher and less dated than some of the Bangles' other hits.
I'll add that those of us born in the late 60s had the best music to listen to. I feel sorry for anyone born after 2000.
The Bangles are definitely one of the most underrated bands of all time. They rock. Oh and Susanna is angelically stunning. Bought the Different Light album last month and love it. This band doesn't get the respect they deserve.
Her hubby is a lucky guy.....Susanna hasn't changed a bit.....same shape....same smile....simply beautiful.
@@johncummings5350, agreed, John. Mr Roach is one lucky dude indeed. Susanna is still very beautiful now in her early-to-mid 60s. Age has been kind to her. She reminds me of Natalie Wood with her big brown eyes. Both women: angelic-looking, the camera loved/loves them.
@@johncummings5350, I would definitely love Susanna if I was a teen growing up in the Eighties haha. She was really beautiful and still is now.
@@alexcarratu5554 Yes.... Natalie Wood was a beautiful woman as well....and I've always been a sucker for pretty brown eyes. Both of these women aged well....Natalie should have lived longer.
@@johncummings5350, yes Natalie was and always will be in our hearts. Angelically beautiful she was and Susanna still is at the age of 63. I too have always loved brown-eyed women. Victoria Justice is another beautiful brown-eyed woman. Very talented too. I love her. Natalie and Susanna definitely both aged well and were/are always beautiful. Natalie should definitely have lived longer indeed, she was barely in her 40s. Should still be here. But she's not forgotten and people still look upon her with awe. Robert Wagner should have been in jail for the death of Natalie decades ago.
When you talk about The Bangles, people always think first of Walk Like an Egyptian or Manic Monday, but I think of If She Knew What She Wants. Their absolutely very best song 👌

The girls killing it again. Brilliant band
1986, my senior year in highschool, this song really brings out the nostalgia and the tears. It's a pity the Bangles are no longer together.
Every time I look into Susanna's eyes, I get goose bumps. OMG
Whoever wrote the lyrics to this song is a pretty deep thinker. And the melody carries the message, and the girls deliver it so well.
Jules Shear from his 1985 album called The Eternal Return, he is a genius song writer.
@@Perry23K , have you heard Iain Matthews sing songs of Jules Shear? One of my favorite albums of all time.

Susanna Hoffs - Queen of the side glance! Wonderful!
The lead singer, Susnna is so beautiful and charming. My compliment goes to other members as well. The pioneer of the whole package female line-up plus a hard-working drum play absorbing tremendous power for a woman. They deserve to have much more. What an awesome female band!

I think this is my favorite Bangles song.
Suzanna Hoffs has one awesome voice. I love her voice, and she is one gorgeous Bangle,...
What talent. All members could really sing and were great musically.
What a fabulous group. It brings me back to the eighties when these songs were getting a decent amount of airplay. I love their beautiful vocals and wonderful lyrics and melodies. I am not hearing anything past the year 2000 that is at this quality. Most of the new pop today does not have the heart like this did. I would say they were significant and made a very valuable and impacting contribution to the soft rock easy listening genre.

Simply one of the best harmonies ever in a pop song.
Probably…..well, not probably, this IS my most favorite Bangles tune…..
I'd forgotten how big of a crush I had on Susanna Hoffs when the Bangles hit it big on MTV until I heard her sit for a great long interview on NPR a couple of weeks ago (4/2023). She was so upbeat, funny and open and sounding like despite "growing up", that she has not gotten any older, kind of like myself 😉. I couldn't stop playing my home recorded VHS of the MTV video - partly because of my love for the song and the production, and partly because of how much I loved Susanna.
Sweet harmonies and the big guitar sound wrapped around a melancholy love ballad? You're not getting more timeless than that. Of course, you can throw in four of the sweetest, sexiest women of their day and you pretty much have the perfect pop song.
What great harmonies and voices. Makes me quite nostalgic for those days.
Same.
Love this song. One of the best songs from one of my favorite bands. So underrated. I grew up in the 80s, and nothing personal to all the other generations, but we had the best music. Hearing the Bangles brings back so many good memories always. Rock on, you beautiful girls.
I am 63 but amazed at all the 30 and 40 something people who agree with us that the 80s was the best decade for music. Dammit ! We knew how to have fun! We partied! We had a good time . Kids today seem to have lost the joy of music because their attention span appears to be limited to whatever they can consume in a 15 second TikTok video.
So lucky to have seen the Bangles play twice in small arenas up close back in the 80's. Beautiful songs, beautiful voices and beautiful women.
The male actor in this video won the Lottery when he got this gig. Susanna Hoffs is a gift from God. 💕💕💕
It always looks like to me that Susannah is always singing to you when she starts shifting her eyes to look at you! she definitely is and still is the most beautiful woman in the world!
A smart, beautifully written song about a woman that is too hard to hold & won’t be pinned down. Has about 12 great hooks in 3 minutes. Exceptional

A video production to match the quality of the music and the band. Timeless. It is easy to see how it could lead one to think of Susanna as the mainstay of The Bangles because of her ability to own the camera, but let there be no question that they were nothing if not equally talented and making solid contributions of their own ❤❤❤🎸🎸🎸
