    What I don’t understand is why the two attacking teams are allowed to shoot each other. All it does is cause unnecessary salt and self sabotage. Why not have it so that while both the attacking teams can win together, the one who paints the most gets an extra point bonus? So that way there’s a moral conflict: do you work together to secure a win or go head strong for the extra points?

    • @thesavageone8685
      @thesavageone8685 10 месяцев назад +58

      Have you forgotten that the games theme is chaos? Of course there will be sabotage. Also you get bonus points for getting the ultra signal so there is an incentive to attacking the other team and stopping them.

    • @sleeplessarcher
      @sleeplessarcher 10 месяцев назад +92

      @@thesavageone8685 I haven’t, but if the theme truly is chaos then why not only have one attacking team win instead of both? That would make matches a lot more bloodthirsty. Sadly you're right and that is a good point. Another awkward thing about the new system is when the halfimte leader team is attacking. For exapmple I was Team Strawberry, and if a "Strawberry defending, Vanilla and Mintchip attacking" happend.
    The attackers are suposed to "take down the leader" but here they're not attacking the leader, they're attacking the last place team 😭
    And even for Mint Chip, would be weird, beacuse if they win, vanilla wins too, so they are helping the leaders to be EVEN MORE on top of them. This create a sittuation of "Should I throw this match and let Strawberry win to avoid giving Vanilla more points?"

    • @stargatta
      @stargatta 10 месяцев назад +20

      I was in team mint chip and I was the attacker only a few times and when I was the attacker I got strawberry and that made me a little mad since the tricolour matches should take down the best team, but if the strongest team always gets to attack and win points with a weaker team while dunking the other weaker team it feels like it’s no use. I rather have the original tricolour battles even if they were hard to defend in if that means the weakest team can have a chance to win, but if these mirror matches and these tricolour matches with the weaker teams as defenders keep happening then it’s a bit disappointing that the mode that was supposed to help the teams actually doesn’t do anything.

  • @sherbertshortkake6649
    @sherbertshortkake6649 10 месяцев назад +183

    The reason why Tri-Color sucks from a fundamental level:
    Being able to take different routes to mid directly correlates with how well you can attack or defend. It is optimal for you to spawncamp, or at least mid camp, in a way that simply limits what routes your opponents can take to mid and which areas are safe. As an attacker or defender, your ease of success is linked to your options to reach mid. Therefore, the best strategy is to simply remove, or at least limit, your opponents' options.
    With Splatoon 3, almost every stage by default lacks different routes to mid. They are small and they are narrow. Lockouts and chokepoints are already incredibly problematic for the ranked and competitive scene.
    And now Tri-Color introduces a mode that inherently is built around routes to mid. Here we can see where the heart of the issue is.
    Think back for a moment to stages like Goby Arena and Moray Towers and Arowana Mall. These were definitely not the best stages of their time, but do you ever remember being able to simply spawncamp on these stages? Nigh impossible. Spawns used to be so much larger and have wide flanks that circumvented from spawn to mid. It was also important for spawns to have high-ground and positions to defend from. Moray Towers succeeded where all of Splatoon 3's maps failed: it made the art of spawncamping an impossibility.
    We have entered into a new era. A Saltspray Rig era.
    Finally, just consider for a moment what a Snapper Canal tri-color stage would look like. Snapper Canal is so massive that you can quite literally travel from one team's spawn to the other without even entering mid. All of a sudden, the strategy of Tri-Color shifts from limiting your opponents' options and routes to how well you can rotate, flank, and position yourself. This is why Tri-Color is doomed to fail in Splatoon 3's current climate. No matter how much they try to balance the points calculated and the Ultra Signal and the Sprinkler of Doom they have yet to fix its core issue of map design.

      I recently started playing splatoon 1 again and call me crazy but it feels so much better, fun and chaotic than splatoon 3
      The first thing are the maps are just so big and it feels like you are playing a totally different game than in splatoon 3 there are so many flank routes that in just in a match i flanked more the enemy team that in all my playtime in splatoon 3 and i freak out when i saw that almost inkable walls there are and omg mahi mahi feels like totally different in splatoon 3 i will say that is the worst in my opinion and it just feels like you have more freedom to flank and to defend than in all splatoon 3.
      Then the chaos is a lot different in splatoon 3 than in splatoon 1: Splatoon 3 has the chaos of being more fast and for example like 3 or more explosions of ink and Booyah booms happening at the same time or missiles targeting you like wtf they were thinking at least in splatoon 1 feels a lot more satisfying splating with a killer whale and you had to AIM IT but with missiles its like well lets just spam it. But in splatoon 1 chaos feels more slowly mainly because bomb rush and inkstrike or killer whale that you have an opportunity to dodge and have and you can prevent it the time the player aims it and that types of specials feels to annoy the backliners because in splatoon 1 is impossible to enter the enemy zone in splatoon 3 we have some tools like booyah bomb or triple inkstrike that mainly is an entry tool while in splatoon 1 is so slow that you main entry tools are the flanks.
      And for last everyone should at least try splatoon 1 because its just so much fun and entertaining that splatoon 3 at least in my opinion: In splatoon 3 i play at least 15 matches and like 7 of those matches i play because i have fun and in the others matches i start to slightly lose interest in until i stop playing but in splatoon 1 i play the same amount of matches and im still having fun even if i lose because i had fun anyway in splatoon 3 i lose by to manners: teamates left the match or opponents destroy us and we endup with people with 20 kills or more and 0 deaths in splatoon 1 if we lose we lose because the opponent made their best but or team too i get that feeling in every match even if we get K.O. In splatoon 3 i usually get that feeling in 1/100 matches but anyways i still like splatoon 3 and splatoon 1 and this is only the thoughts i have while playing splatoon 1.

    this is the genuine reason why I'm not excited for splatfests anymore nor do I really have motivation to play them- is because it feels like they're just losing their hype. I miss the previous game's splatfests because Splatoon 2 had shifty stations, and they were literally the best thing ever. they gave us a chance to play on a special stage that was always unique in a way. and plus, those splatfests felt a lot more lighthearted to play and i wouldn't feel stressed out while playing them.
    As for Splatoon 1, same reason, but no shifty stations.
    but whenever i play a Splatoon 3 Splatfest i always get this "Eh" feeling while playing them, it just doesn't feel too right and tricolor battles just feel so messy to me to the point where i never play them, i only played it once and just thought; "...This feels weird.."

      I think not only that but the Splatfest themes for Splatoon 3 are just more boring IMO. I’m personally not too enthusiastic about the choices in the splatfests so far and they’re not hills I would die on.
      In the Splatoon 2 splatfests I actually had stronger opinions for and against a lot of the choices (especially in the Salsa vs. Guacamole splatfest…I hate guacamole with a passion and freaking love salsa lol), but in Splatoon 3 I haven’t particularly felt too strongly about the choices besides Team Love.
      It also doesn’t help that all of the splatfests are worldwide now and there are no more region-exclusive splatfests, so they have to come up with splatfests that everybody in the whole wide world can relate to which really limits the themes we can have. And on top of that they have to think of three choices instead of two which restricts them even more.

      It's interesting because this same situation has played out in every splatoon game. In Splatoon 1 it was "pick the least popular team to win". I will admit I did abuse that strategy back in the day but at least in that game it was more worth it due to the larger difference in snails between winning and losing. Splatoon 2 it was at least a little more balanced despite an era of splatfests having the least popular team winning every time but when they introduced the clout system things became way more balanced with a mix of the most popular and least popular team winning.
      Now it seems in this game the most popular team wins everytime as it's happened 7/8 times and even the one time it didn't happen the popularity vote was by a difference of less than 1% (on the aliens splatfest).

      Or maybe just allow you to play from solo to 4 members. Squads get the priority for defendants and Duos the priority for Attackers. Trios have the secondmost priority for defendants and if someone is soloing they get put with a trio, this way at least 3/4 of the defendants are coordinated. Solos can also form attacker teams but that would be the worst case scenario. As for defendants, 2 duos, 1 duo and 2 solos or 4 solos are the worst case scenarios.

    Egh, my biggest gripe is with Halftime as a whole. As soon as they announce who's currently in the lead I see two things happen 1) If someone's team is NOT in the lead they give up and decide there's no point in trying anymore. For now, this is especially so if Shiver's team IS in the lead. But 2) People decide now is the time to choose their team instead of picking the team they actually agree with from the start. Granted, if you only care about winning it is a valid strategy and I'm not trying to sit here and tell people how they should play but it just doesn't feel in line with the whole Splatfest spirit, in my opinion. I know everyone's got something against "Shiver simps" but at least they pick the team they like and play instead of waiting to see who's "winning" before they join in.
    Halftime just feels super demoralizing as things are now. And you know what so does Sneak Peek I'll throw that in here too. Being able to see who's going to win before the event has finished let alone before it's even started is demoralizing and I've seen it makes people not even want to bother trying; it feels bad. I don't have a solution right this second other than just straight up removing both Sneak Peek and Halftime, but SOMETHING needs to be done to make Splatfests feel like they're worth fighting to the end instead of giving people every reason to not even bother trying.

    I do believe I have an explanation for why the latest tricolor map was so god awful (at least from my opinions and experience). A major factor that’s just missing from modern splatoon 3 maps is the amount of alternate paths and flank routes at spawn. The problem with that map is just that there was one single path to go down, meaning you could have 2 teammates at each entrance for the attacking team and win every time pretty much.

  • @Arth020
    @Arth020 10 месяцев назад +16

    Conch shells need to be displayed at the beginning imo, because it shows a lack of participation by the players on that team
    lack of participation will also directly result in less clout as well because it drags the % down on each mode
    so imo it needs to be there at the start of the splatfest to signal flare to the teams that are behind to atleast step up their participation if they want to win.
    fyi ppl, if you only play one mode you'll drag down the % on the modes you don't play
    this got explained
    so if you want your team to win you need to play all modes

    • @Coldeggman
      @Coldeggman  10 месяцев назад +7

      Yeah that's a fair point, but I also view it as which team is the "least skilled" in getting the most conch shells since the more you win, the more shells you'll get. So the team with the least amount of shells is generally going to be the team with the "worst" players which is why the trend is there.

    • @LuisSantiagoMijaresOrdon-er8jt
      @LuisSantiagoMijaresOrdon-er8jt 8 месяцев назад

      A middle ground taking into account both Activity-Based Rates (The winner is the most active, not the most skilled) and Skill-Based Rates (The winner is the most skilled, not the most active) would be to not show percentages nor the overall ranking in the initial report, just say who is leading. This way you don't know which team is underperforming nor how big the lead of the winners is. In the results of course you can show the percentages.

  • @Shannessa

    Honestly, my idea for tricolour (that’s I’ve had this idea since the “fix”) is to make keep tri-colour an option for the half-time winners a thing, but also when queuing for a tricolour, make it a scaling effect for defence!
    Like, if the halftime winners are winning by a wide margin, make their chance to be defence even higher (like 60-80% to defend, but not 100%)
    And if their isn’t much of a gap between first and second place, still have the half-time winners be more likely to defend (like maybe 40% chance to be defender)

    Yeah... Barnicle and Dime was a horrible map for tri colour because you can easily get spawn camped as an attacker on these two "squares" of the tetris S shaped map. Sturgeon Shipyard was unbalanced towards defenders because the map allowed attacker to come in from different places.
    Also, unrelated but does anybody else just not play mirror matches? I just kind of walk around and do nothing, as the outcome doesn't really matter anyway.

    • @SkittyDangerzne

  • @justjake4380
    @justjake4380 10 месяцев назад +21

    The tricolor map (barnacle & dime) for the last splatfest was so bad because of the choke point between the attacking team base and mid. Its design makes it so that whoever is attacking from mid has a significant advantage over whoever is in the base area. There are no real flank routes, so you have to brute-force your way to mid or use a really nimble weapon. This can kind of work in a ranked battle (although unenjoyable), but it is just bad when the enemy team has 4 players and you have 2. Yeah, they have to divide their players between the two sides, but the players in mid can prioritize different sides depending on the situation. Also, it's not like the two attacking teams will be up and actively attacking at the same time, so the defending team can afford to take 3v2s a lot. Other maps have better flank options, but this map forces fighting, which creates the issues I described.

  • @CynningSeline

    Copy pasting a comment I made from somewhere else! :)
    So, a funny correlation that I picked up on due to the results of the last splatfest using good old inkipedia is actually quite interesting. So... sneak peek results, yeah? Fun fact! There's only been 2 times out of the 7 splatfests that we had that the team who DIDN'T acquire sneak peek won (meaning that 5/7 were won by sneak peek winners). Popularity, however, has only had a single team that didn't acquire the points, being Team Nessie during the NAB splatfest (which also didn't get sneak peek). The amount of points you receive by getting both sneak peek and popularity (which demonstrated so far is more likely than not) is 15 (as of currently). Which means you only need to grab tricolor to win, or hope that another team doesn't get tricolor and another category.
    Which brings me to tricolor. The maps for tricolor (except for probably 2) are usually bad and heavily skewed in one way or another. So... what if the sneak peek team is also winning at halftime? It's perfectly acceptable to throw in the towel right then and there instead of fighting tooth and nail for a result you won't be able to change. There's only been a SINGLE splatfest that the halftime winner didn't win the entire splatfest- being the first one, GGF (when tricolor wasn't even a separate category).
    So, to tl;dr this: Sneak peek and halftime results are terrible and actively show you who is going to win, especially halftime. Heavy balance changes need to be made to splatfests to make them remotely feel like a battle worth fighting.
    Also, if any information in this is wrong, I apologize and will promptly edit my comment accordingly. Thank you for listening
    There's some new information that I picked up in this video. The results of halftime only consider open matches? With that knowledge, doesn't that get rid of all purpose to play pro mode until halftime is announced?! Albeit soloq is terrible, but... that's just weird.
    Also, hi! As a mild competitive player (barely dipped my toes in.) I can tell you my main problem with the B&D tricolor map: My GOD is it SO easy to spawncamp! Spawncamping defenders? Nope! ATTACKERS :D I literally had a crab in my spawn at one point, how fun! (Please for the love of god, as bad as Splatoon 2 balancing was, at least the splatfests were extremely fun.)

    The reason why tricolor maps aren’t fun to play is because all those maps are designed to be played by 2 Groups. A third group coming in just makes the match chaotic bad. Like BAD bad. Also one suggestion to Splatoon 3: There should be something like Mystery Zones but for three groups and there are no “teams”. Simple turf war, BUT it’s 2vs2vs2 and the Signal in the middle of the map doesn’t effect that much like the Signals now. Any takes on that?

    And I know you'd go "But who wouldn't pick a team?", and to that I say probably a few people. They should at least keep normal Turf War open for those who haven't picked a team, so they can still play instead of grinding out Salmon Run or having to resort to Private Lobbies

  • @matthewgriffin8419

    Here’s what they need to, and SHOULD’VE done from the get go.
    At Halftime, whatever team is in the lead is on defense. If another team takes 1st place, THAT team should be put on defense and the other team that was in the lead on attacking. That way, everyone knows whatever team is defending is in the lead.
    Example: Team Vanilla is in the lead at Halftime, but Strawberry steals first, putting them on defense and Vanilla on attacking. But Vanilla could steal first back or Mint Chip could steal it from Strawberry. This goes on the entire second half of the fest.
    I hope this makes sense. It’s easier to explain in person than through a comment.

    My biggest problem with the current Splatfest system has to be the matchmaking. We have regional matchmaking yet we get global results. There has been at least two Splatfests so far that have been a huge problem. Chocolate and Money/Fame/Love, in both of these instances, one team was insanely popular in the West regions yet still lost the popularity contest because a different team was more popular in Japan, which has like 90% of the player base. Which gave both White Chocolate and Money the popularity despite the fact that Milk Chocolate and Love ran into nothing but mirror matches in NA and Europe, to where they can’t even score clout for their team.
    What even is the point of the Splatfest region option in-game if everybody gets the same result anyway? I really hope Nintendo fixes the matchmaking to be global, or give us regional scores like Rock/Paper/Scissors did.

    tbh my biggest problem with splatfests currently is the matchmaking. theres no ranked mode for spatfests so everyone is clumped together in the same gamemode. this means that as a casual player (me) you often get put up against extremely skilled players and just get steamrolled the whole match. it honestly makes it less fun for me, especially when i just play to have fun and im not nearly as skilled as some others. even if im just playing to have fun and dont care all too much about wins, its so unfun to be absolutely obliterated over and over by people way above your skill level. and its even worse when you end up just being spawn-camped the whole match. at least add a ranked splatfest mode or even other gamemodes besides turf war, OR just better matchmaking in general, perhaps based on your highest rank? this may be a stupid take but i at least wish it would be considered. it makes me not want to play splatfests when im just getting steamrolled the whole weekend

And yeah the conch shell sneak peek doesn't make sense, just show who won the most conch shells not add it to the winning board results, votes and clout make sense to count for the final results. So yeah I hope the devs fix that little problem too so that most Splatoon fans can actually enjoy the splatfests and look forward to it.

But I have to ask: why can’t we have tricolour making sense (winning team: defence), AND have it readily playable? They literally changed the system right after the test fire, surely they could’ve kept it around a bit longer to see if it was really that bad? Besides, I’d rather have a slightly unfair splatfest than not have any fun playing it, because that’s why I play video games: for fun.
    Also side note but I swear tricolour (and the whole game) would be so much more fun if they would actually give us some bigger maps. Why’d they have to be so tiny?

    My problem is that Shiver keeps winning and Frye only won once. Big Man is balanced but Shiver needs to be nerfed and Frye needs a slight buff to increase her chances of winning. It’s not fun if you know who’s winning from the very beginning.

    I feel like they should return to the old tricolor mechanics of having only the half time winning team in the middle, and Nintendo NEEDS. to SPECIFY. That THE ATTACKING TEAMS WORK TOGETHER. That solves SO many problems… I hate so much when you try for the ultra signal and the other attacking team splats you- and it LITERALLY costs you that match because there’s never another opportunity to get the ultra signal- then BOTH attacking teams lose and the defending team wins. Because right now it’s just- make the winning team lose, which includes a lot of throwing from the attacking team and it’s just- annoying…
    Also, yeah. Tricolor maps need to be fixed ASAP. The Zelda one was the ONLY Tricolor map so far that was balanced and any team could’ve taken the win, most of the others have been very defender heavy maps and the attacking teams have lower chances of winning… when playing tricolor the best strategy to win is two players from the defending team spawn camp the other two sides, and the current maps have been very spawn camp maps ESPECIALLY the most recent one… Sturgeon wasn’t horrible but- I was defending on Scissors so I didn’t really know how attacking went, and it honestly was more balanced then the other tricolor maps (though, it could’ve been the fact there were a BUNCH. Of new players coming in because it was the global Testfire for free-)
    And Hammerhead… I don’t know- I only played on it once since it was Fun who won half time that fest and Tricolor was practically nonexistent LOL-
    The other tricolor maps though… besides the Triforce map, have been in all honesty pretty terrible…

    One thing I find fard to comw by is mirror match since it doesn't really matter what side wins. Mainly because its the same team going against each other so if I were you just use that mirror match as a break to hydrate yourself. Other than that and it happens frequently just take a chill pill. But there was one team i bumped into the only mirror match i had while on team strawberry which was tri color. I do agree on giving least popular/low chance of winning teams a higher percentage after a battle. I understand its like a once of month event and all butbot would be nice to not have recycled splatfest that the one currently happening while writing this. If you already know if a teams gonna win whats the point of playing if you already know. Tri color has its ups and downs since it was supposed to be a comeback mechanic and all but it doesn't feel like it at all like what you covered in the video. One thing that could make it better is actually have current charts so then the "suppose" would seitch more frequently than just sticking the entire time after tri color is available. Tjat can add more variety and for the team that goes on attacking the most will get a higher percentage with rewards such as xp, and money. This video does a good job uncovering splatfest's flaws and ways to fix them. Im gonna be honest and knew from the bat that Vanilla was gonna win anyway but i still choose strawberry anyway because whats the point if you can't get regular matches in turf?
    Edit 1: Splatfest results came out and Money won. As someone that was on team love tri color was non sense. Other than not being to play as much as the rest of the splatfest. The mirror matches weren't for me at all. I only got to play 1 real tri color match. If i were you and you know youre gonna lose just get to ruler/ruler+#. Im pretty sure 50% of the community is on a losing streak. I only won 1 splatfest if you wanted to know

    I hated tri barnacle, I mostly was attacking and got spawn camped every game and Ik this next complaint about the map is just a matchmaking issue, but idc so every time I tried to counter the defenders by using hydra I got on the defending team I was unfamiliar with the tactics to spawn camping so I lost most matches. It’s sad to see one of my fav modes be so bad.

    Last splatfest as of this comment (money, fame love) really showed the issue there is with watches where you play against your own team. Not only were majority of people on team love openly venting at the amount of these battles they got, which i can attest to (i was on love) but also they are a waste of time. You earn no points for participating. And with a high number of these battles occurring it can ruin the splatfest experience and the point calculations. Alongside this, not everyone has time to play splatfest that long, so no progress is even made for that perosn sparing their time to play for their team.
    Personally i did not get any points towards tri colour, all the matches i played were love v love v love. Most open battles were the same. The only chance i had for earning points for my team was pro, where it still occurred. Personally i think removing these matches would be best, but compensation for the match would be just as good of a fix. It can be frustrating to not be able to have a fair chance at a splatfest. It also contributes to the final score which i think is the main issue here. It can seem rigged, like some people post splatfest expressed. Overall, for a splatfest where love was a theme, not many felt it towards the event.

    • @Coldeggman
      @Coldeggman  9 месяцев назад +1

      Sadly this is more of an issue due to balancing splatfest themes themselves. Really wish they could've thought of something better than fame for Frye then maybe it would've been balanced better.
      Unfortunately if you remove mirror matches then you'll just be stuck with horrendous wait times for every match which would then result in people complaining about long wait times for matches. This actually happened in the first ever splatfest in Splatoon 1 in Japan and is the reason why VS self matches were added in the first place.

      @@Coldeggman Yea, that's fair. I understand the need for them, that's why I feel some sort of pay off would be a good fix. Personally I'd rather wait longer to play a match where I can benefit instead of back to back matches that have no reward. It's just due to their frequency that's it gets annoying. I agree on the theme issue too, some of the splatfest so far have been unbalanced with the themes (I remember being on big foot haha). I guess it's just proving difficult to make good balanced 3 way splatfests, not always, but perhaps lately. Especially with that last one, it was a rehash of an old one, fame was doomed to fail since its conception, I feel

    Tri Color as a mode just sucks in general imo. What does it for me is the fact that if enemy teams take the ultra signal... they just have it for the rest of the game. I don't like this design because it means one single mistake could cost you the game. Even if you held control for longer, if they have it for 2 seconds you still lose at the end. They should've incorporated design elements of ranked battle... or Anarchy battle (still not used to calling it that mainly because I didn't play the game for the first year, quit for a while after they shut down rainmaker because it was broken lmao).

    my personal take (that nintendo likely won't do) is to just split the results. let there be a winner in each region that is participating rather than one result for all. the japanese playerbase is a lot more dedicated than the usa playerbase and (as we have seen with the most recent splatfest), it can completely skew the results.
    or just give us a regional splatfest like there were in the other games

    Easiest way to predict which team wins is see which team Shiver is representing.

  • @suudsuu
    @suudsuu 10 месяцев назад +8

    See, I think it was an abysmal decision just to split the available teams into three instead of the two we got in prior games, specifically because it had an end result of significantly ramping up the total number of players who would lose each event, but in such a way that players still feel like they could and should be winning.
    Now, if there were way more teams to pick from, say seven or something like that, I think more players would get it into their heads that the odds are against them and that they have to be really good and committed to make it. But with three teams as is, just studying the way players talk about Splatfests, a lot of them still haven't twigged to the newer, steeper odds.
    Alternative suggestion: frame the monthly community event not around a competition, but a game of collaboration, or make the competition earnestly chaotic and high-variance so players enjoy the sense of luck and discovery instead of focusing on results.

      What did you have in mind for your alternative solution?

    • @suudsuu
      @suudsuu 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@Whodjathink This is a good question, and while I'm gonna start by clarifying that I'm not a game developer, nor even a prolific gamer, it's important to recognize that the entirety of whether Splatfests are serving the community well doesn't come down to my personal ability to serve up the best alternative.
      If I'm gonna do the work, it means that you can do it, too! Co-op and collaborative gaming exists, so we don't have to pretend to invent the wheel.
      Off the top of my head, I'd serve up Shifty Stations 3.0, only instead of 4.v.4 Turf War, what if we instead had flights of 8 (or 9) players move to an objective more akin to Fall Guys. And while we're recognizing the players who place higher and place more consistently, we could offer prizes and celebratory events as the community clears milestones together rather than everything boiling down to an end-of-game rank between three teams.
      To honor the theme of the number-three, players could even register w/ two friends or available teammate and share a synergy-score that could result in a locker-item you could hang up if you wanted.
      Point being: coming up w/ alternatives to wonky-competitive versus scenarios in gaming is not hard; it just requires creativity and a recognition that a casual format probably shouldn't be as competitive.
