This plane will always have special memories for me- as I was once responsible for its safety for the last year I served in the Air Force. It was a pleasure to fly on board and many many times it was just me, that plane and an M16. You haven't lived until you ate your Burger King takeout on the president's conference table. :)
The VC25 is far nicer, but the VC137's will always be special parts of history. I hope to visit each one of my old birds in the next few years.

If memory serves me, that is the same aircraft that brought President & Mrs. Kennedy to a visit in Puerto Rico on December 1961.
I went to the airport as part of a school delegation to receive them, but we actually stood like 75 meters from them.

The presenter says that this aircraft is the first jet designed and built for the president, but it should be noted that it wasn't the first jet assigned to that role. SAM 86970, which is currently at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, was delivered to the Air Force in 1959 to replace President Eisenhower's Lockheed Constellation, and modified for that purpose. It was also repainted in 1962 in the Kennedy-commissioned / Raymond Loewy-designed livery.

What a complete rat..lbj was. Don't forget that wink. The egotistical maniac needed his "Kodak moment" for his ego. Don't think for one minute it was for "continuity" as it was totally unnecessary. And to use a woman like First Lady Jackie, who'd horrifically lost her husband and hour prior. He's a despicable 🐖.

    • @jimmycricket5366
      @jimmycricket5366 11 месяцев назад +1

No, it was an incredibly insensitive thing to do to Jackie, especially after all the recent fighting and shouting between Yarborough, Kennedy and LBJ that Jackie had been witness to over seating arrangements in the presidential parade vehicles! Jackie mentioned it in her book as the most intense shooting match she had ever seen her husband engage in. Also, they should have shown the famous 'wink' photograph taken just seconds before the swearing-in one. Apparently there was no legal requirement for LBJ to be sworn in since the constitution automatically provided for the new status of LBJ. Never before when US vice presidents had taken over from presidents due to sudden death had there been a same day swearing-in. Crazy.

Back in 2011 we detoured to Dayton just to go through the Air Force Museum & to the, then separate, hanger to see the 'Presidential fleet'. Along with this plane, we also saw the smaller version of this one along with FDR's, Eisenhower's & Truman's, Very much worth the trip. My tip (not just for here but any museum)... Once you go in, go directly to the gift shop & buy the guide book then use that as your tour guide as you go through. The pictures in the guide book are usually pretty good & it has the added bonus of not wasting time waiting for people to get out of your way.

In retrospect, it seems very cold to have forced Jackie to stand in her hour of grief for LBJs swearing in ceremony onboard Boeing 62000, she really did not need to go through this and be reminded of her late husband's innaguration and swearing in some 3 years earlier.

She actually insisted on standing next to Johnson during his swearing in and refused to change out of her clothes, that were stained with the Presidents blood, so "They could see what they did to him"
This is well documented and is a direct quote from Jackie to her staff and the Secret Service.
She knew the press was going to be on board during the swearing-in, so the poignancy of her sadness, bloody clothes and finality of Johnson being sworn in as President before taking off.....made the statement FOR her, without ever uttering a word to the press surrounding her.
Let that sink in. She was far more intelligent than she was given credit for. Now, that's sad. Let that sink in, as well.

Actually you're all three right. Even when a President leaves office (regardless the cause), he's still referred to as 'President' or 'Former President', he's just no longer the current 'acting' President. Now in this case, had Kennedy lived & was flying back to the Naval Hospital to be treated, regardless if they had invoked the 25th amendment or not, they would have flown on separate planes but, with Kennedy now deceased, there was not the same 'security risk' of having both the President & Vice President or (with the 25th), both Presidents, on the same plane.

To pick up some extra money, and he taught some night classes, and there was a colonel in one of his classes who is LBJ’s pilot. Somehow my dad wangled a visit onto that airplane at the hanger on Andrew‘s Air Force Base. We got a personal tour, we got pictures, but the thing that stands out to me the most, somehow, in my little kid, memory, is that I got to sit on the toilet of the president. Why we remember certain things I’ll never know. But I did get to do that.

Dawn FKA hamilton-doerfler Wait a minute if you start that you'll have to start complementing white people and that's against the current agenda. Especially Hollywood, they're supposed to belittle white people especially men at every chance. To start reminding these idiots that white people invented everything in the world that will hurt their wittle feelings.

The president of USA represents the US oligarchy, not the people!
Otherwise, so many US people won't be victimized by being homeless, jobless, incarcerated wrongly, and so on. Goulag for the poor, haven for the rich.

Not all but many many people are in their position not because of some boogeyman but because of decisions they made. Few are victims of others, but rather themselves and their own poor decisions

A true symbol of America, and let me say this, the United States of America needs to get it prestige back ; Because president trump has absolutely no redeeming features, he is a horrible wicked human being and an embarrassment. Let's make America great again and drop that megalomaniac in the next election.
